There 's nothing like cool temperatures and fresh air to raise the spirits. during my forays to the Alabama Hills the temperature can get up into the 100's and when they do, this is where I seek refuge. At around 9000 ft in elevation the difference in temperature is about 15 degrees and there nothing better the a fine mist that floats away from the falls right onto your weary soul.

A cat in greenery is a harmonious combination ... however, cats are always and everywhere harmonious :)

The ancient Egyptians had a special relationship with cats: they were revered as sacred animals; mummified like humans; depicted in sculpture and frescoes. And the very first cat "portrait" was written by the Egyptians.

For a long time it was believed that the Egyptians tamed cats. However, in 2004, a burial site dating back to 9500 BC was discovered in Cyprus. e., in which a cat was found together with a man. A wild beast would hardly have been put in a grave. It turned out that cats lived with people long before they appeared in Egypt. The Middle East began to be considered the birthplace of domestic cats, and Egypt was forgotten for some time. But not for long: in 2008, a burial was opened in southern Egypt, in which six cats were found - a male, a female and four kittens. Although this burial was younger than the Cypriot one (about 6000 years), it became clear that cats were known in Egypt much earlier than was thought until recently.

It is known that the ancestor of the domestic cat was the steppe cat Felis silvestris lybica - it still lives in the steppe, desert and partly mountainous regions of Africa, Western, Central and Central Asia, in Northern India, Transcaucasia and Kazakhstan. In 2007, it was possible to establish that all modern cats descended from him.

Seafarers brought the first cats to Rus' in the pre-Christian era. Exotic animals were a valuable commodity: the cost of a cat until the 15th century was comparable to the value of a healthy arable animal - an ox.

It would be possible to get this shot where I live HOWEVER that is not what happened.

The hawk is my shot that I took while out on a winter hike and although I do have trees like these around here, these particular trees are courtesy Unsplashed. I blended the two together for a little winter wonderland.

I have shown this photo in a colour version before.

Today I show it again as a symbol of social distancing, which has become so normal for all of us in these days

More than one millions bulbs of tulips, hyacinths daffodils and others will create a 14 hectares tapestry of colours and fantasy in the park of the castle. This flower show is possible thanks to the cooperation of major dutch bulb producers and exporters.

O inevitável cotidiano / The inevitable daily

The inevitable daily

Collection: The poetry of invisible movements

It is inevitable, points of conflict, lines of organization and insurrection, invisibility. Time passes... over.

A look, a step, a gesture, the lines of the city or any detail, completed by the look, creating a poetics in the movements that only exist in the encounter between bodies, photographer, place, people photographed and who sees the photo, and this can generate a power of presence, a static dance.

“Never say that you can't do something, or that something seems impossible, or that something can't be done, no matter how discouraging or harrowing it may be; human beings are limited only by what we allow ourselves to be limited by: our own minds. We are each the masters of our own reality; when we become self-aware to this: absolutely anything in the world is possible.

Master yourself, and become king of the world around you. Let no odds, chastisement, exile, doubt, fear, or ANY mental virii prevent you from accomplishing your dreams. Never be a victim of life; be it's conqueror.”

Not 100% sure but I suspect it's ticks that are damaging the birds eyes, if you zoom in just under the eye there's something that looks like a fresh tick. Sorry Jean Marie but your comment made sense, I think you are right it's the ticks that's damaging the eyes..

I caught the sun shining through one of the windows in the lantern on the top floor of the little castle at Bolsover Castle and liked the starburst effect so I positioned myself to make it as large and as striking as possible.

Gangi is a village perched on Monte Barone, a mountain covered in houses with Etna in the background, 120 km from Palermo.

This small village stands at a thousand meters above sea level, surrounded by churches and noble palaces.

In addition to the enchanting landscapes and being enveloped in a unique atmosphere, the medieval village of Gangi also offers an enviable artistic, historical and cultural heritage.

It was proclaimed Borgo dei Borghi in 2014 and named "Jewel of Italy", the only municipality in Sicily that has had these privileges.

For lovers of nature, trekking and walking, in Gangi it is also possible to organize this type of excursions, in the spectacular scenery of the paths of the Madonie Natural Park, suspended between the sea and the mountains.

There are three chicks this time. It's been raining heavily nonstop almost a month.

Hats off to those parents. 🙏

But can't see Oriental Dwarf kingfisher, due to heavy rain the backwater is muddy, and fishing or hunting crabs is not possible there.

May be they are busy in raising second clutch.

With most shortlines generally operating on weekdays, I had to take advantage of an entire Wednesday off work yesterday. Initially I had planned to head east to Delaware on good authority that ESPN would run a blue and yellow trio out of Wilsmere, but when I punched this into the GPS I must've had a brainfart of some sort, as it began taking me west towards the MMID. By the time I noticed my mistake I was already half way to Union Bridge, so turning around would've been of a low mental standard. Instead I caught up to UBHF at Thurmont, where I was very pleasantly surprised to see a lashup of three flared 40's and a pair of oldies in tow, lined up with the 2060 facing east for the return. After a westbound chase to Highfield, I set up in Sabillasville after scoping out all the possible eastbound angles and settled for this winner. A nerve-wracking two hours later, and surely not long before the shadows consumed the ROW, the screaming dynamics of the MMID quintet could be heard roaring down the mountain, and a scene for the ages was converted into pixels.

.. and the Shard. Made possible by the new staircase. You can get really close to the bridge, which provides a leading line to the far bank and the building known as "No.1 London Bridge" and of course, the Shard.

Most of you know I have a small obsession with feathers. I just love their patterned, colourful beauty and intricacy. When my nephew is with me, he and I spend a lot of time on our walks looking at the ground!

I found these blue beauties across the road from my home. I think they've most likely become detached from a Crimson Rosella, although there are a few other possible candidates. And yes, the feathers really are that blue.

It is possible to go inside, but it is not easy to do. Because the steps leading to the front door were torn off. In addition, it is quite clear that everything that can be taken from this house has been stolen.

Three birds in total,1m,2f. Visions of possible breeding were quickly dashed when male and one of the females moved on as did the final female.A lovely experience of such beautiful birds.

Many thanks for looking at my pictures.

Following yesterday's picture, someone challenged me to do something similar but with the wings coming out of the frame too. Not easy because they are translucent, but it is possible if you have the right sort of picture to start with ie without too busy a backdrop.

This is the first image in a two-frame sequence: This wee four-day-old piping plover had been hunting for insects on the beach when it suddenly stopped and began scratching at its beak. Finally, one last swipe as it flung a tiny bug to the ground. You can see it a little if you zoom in on this first image. The second image is the very next frame, post-extraction. Perhaps that’s one of the hazards of hunting live insects. They're not always cooperative when you're trying to eat them. I had been alone with them, laying as flat and unobtrusive as possible when this one came super close to where I laid. July 11, 2019

Victoria and Albert Museum:

Examples of the works of Art in the Museum – South Kensington Museum – Published in 2 Volumes in 1881 – Book 1 - Plate Nos: 37 - 42

Sometime ago I posted some of the illustrations from the above book and I hoped that would be able to find them physically in the museum and photograph them. I took the third set of 15 illustrations from this book and went on the V & A website; Search the Collections. My results were based upon the following criteria:

(1) Items I did locate and photograph.

(2) Items that were in storage

(3) Items I couldn’t find anywhere

So I will be posting them, along with their locations in the museum, against the original plate and photograph from storage (where possible). The original price and any further information I might find.

One thing I didn’t count on, was that renovations would alter the interior of the building so drastically. I have found it very difficult to pin some of these locations down but in the main they have been found.

Not many of the examples shown this time were successful, as can be seen I only found 1 item.

Entering this forest beside her was an adventure that I never imagined I could do, but today I see that everything next to you is possible and, I realize that you are not a human being, but a being from another dimension sent with the goal of making me happy ヾ (≧ ▽ ≦ *) o. All the difficult times I found myself in, I can see that without you I would not have been able to get through them, and how important you are to me. So, thank you for being one of the few people who have patience with me (~ ̄ ▽ ̄) ~ and being that person that I can always count on and that today I can call her sister, I love you <3.

It is finally possible to visit "my" park again without having to present a negative Covid test and so I went there this morning. I was delighted to see that there will be a sand sculpture festival again this year. The sculpture in this photo is the only one which is complete for now but the artists are already working on several more sculptures. Watch this space. :)

“When fortune calls, offer her a chair”....Thanks Rita for your testimonial!

I want to take a moment and celebrate all my Flickr contacts as well - I chose to photograph a section of my kitchen chair (above) as a symbol of the friendship I have with most of you. The strands represent all of you, coming together to form a single point of strength and every day providing me with support and most of all encouragement. As with the chair, every strand counts - from the most timid but consistent "fave" (you know who you are) to the most flamboyant award giver (you know who you are too!). Please know that all this support combined has helped to up my quality and has stirred my imagination to a degree I never thought possible. We must learn to trust what we see and photograph it in the best possible way. Thank you and here's to quality, good fortune and honest opinions!

Returning from our once-a-day allowed exercise I saw this bee labouring on a blossom of a flowering currant bush. I think he was suffering from the chill wind as he barely moved around the flower whilst I took a few shots. The yellow bokeh is from forsythia in the neighbour's garden.

I do fear for bees, as in addition to the possible effects of oilseed rape fields/chemicals, I have seen sick bees, deceased bees and bees who do not seem to know the right time to go to work.
