I'm not sure whether it is possible to fall in love with a city, but if so I've fallen in love with Paris.
There's absolutely nothing I don't like about this city. I always feel right at home when I'm there.
I want to thank all my flickr-friends for the support you've shown me. Couldn't have done all of this without you <3

Another picture of the supercell over Aduard on 5 June, 2015. Unfortunately the quality of the photograph is subpar due to the variations in lighting levels along the length of the panorama.
Clearly visible is a mesocyclone in the form of a rotating wall cloud in the centre, which minutes previously had been much more prominent and, according to reports, reached about 70% to the ground.
Also clearly visible is an inflow tail and an RFD to the right, as well as a general inflow cloud, here coming in from the north/the right side of the picture. You can also see what is possible a sattelite rotation here.

Add beauty to beauty. Nothing is possible when it comes to a Kingfisher lifting its feathers and down one by one to dry itself in the sun.

Aggiungi bellezza a bellezza. Niente è possibile quando si tratta di un martin pescatore che solleva le piume e lo strascico una ad una per asciugarsi al sole.

A quick upload from this mornings trip out to a new location. We were cursing our luck as the first time we have managed to get out for a while we were confronted with the worst thing possible, a clear blue sky! Fortunately a small bank of cloud wandered over us just in time.
On a rainy evening, the "Popradské Pleso" lake in the Tatras mountains, Slovakia.
This shot was taken with a mobile phone, as my camera broke down at the very beginning of this trip. I locked the ISO setting of the phone to 100 ISO to try to get as much as possible out of the camera phone, and then resorted to post-processing to try to get a quality image.
For post-processing, I used darktable. I used non-local means denoising, and adjusted the tone curves to have a strong highlight in the center of the image. I use both the equalizer filter (in clarity mode) and the local contrast filter, with masks selecting the center of the image, to increase the contrast gradually toward the center. My goal was to make more visible the different layers of mountains.
Then, I worked a lot on the lower part of the image, the lake, to enhance the highlights in the reflection. For this, I started with a strong modification of the tone curves. However, this created a lot of noise as the sensor of the phone is not too good in the shadows. To fight this noise, applied a set of filters only on the lower part of the image: I used a stronger non-local means that I combined with a wavelet-based denoising (using the "profiled" denoising filter of darktables) as these have different types of artifacts. To cancel out the artifacts, I added to these a low-pass filter that smooths out the image. On top of this, I added artificial grain, to restore the grain of the image destroyed while smoothing.
Finally, I worked a bit on the clouds. I wanted to crop the top of the image, in order to focus more on the horizon line, but I was interested in the shapes of the cloud. So I used a liquify filter to warp these clouds down. Last, in a minor and classic trick, I created a vignetting-like effect by making the top and left clouds darker with a tone-curve filter.

Possible female owing to the buff throat, although no obvious spots on the flanks? Whatever, always a treat to see up close - at one point this bird landed on the ground no more than a metre away from my 'hide' in the hedge. Spent a couple of minutes looking straight at me :]

Buddha inside the Tha Gyar Hit Phaya Temple. It is one of the smaller pagodas but it is possible to climb to higher levels through small tunnel stairways and able to walk around the outside of pagoda through narrow walkways. This temple provides wide views of the surrounding temples. Parts of the pagoda and it’s walkways is falling apart. It is located on Bagan-Nyaung-U Rd north of Old Bagan Myanmar. There are several neighboring temples named Lawka Chanthar Phaya and Tha Gyar Pone Phaya.
Yeah yeah, I haven't died just yet. School and other such things can really hamper progress though. Anyways, with all that winding down, I want to unveil, yes, another new project, a long range bomber. That is landing gear, to scale, no less.
Hard to believe it's been two years since I shot one of these. It's been such a busy kick working on my film projects. I love the work, but certainly, the rewards are far less immediate than in photography. Instead of hours or days, it takes months, sometimes years, just to see one film project through from inception to completion… Sometimes, within this process, it feels like I’ve sacrificed my creativity to the administrative duties of MAKING the actual work.
This needs to change.
In the coming months, I hope to carve out more time for the work I care about. The creative work. Brainstorming, photography, writing. The stuff that makes me feel like I’m actually alive.
This photo serves as a gentle reminder of the idea that, no matter how powerless we feel, each day we have the power to change our future. The choices we make today will cause a ripple effect through the rest of our lives. Every day, we are choosing from a series of possible futures, whether we realize it or not.
Title taken from a fantastic article written by Derek Sivers. If you haven’t read any of his work yet, I highly recommend.
Olivine is a greenish-colored silicate mineral common in many mafic igneous rocks. On Mars, olivine has been detected in Nili Fossae, Ganges Chasma (in Valles Marineris) and even in Martian meteorites. Studying possible areas of olivine can help to understand the weathering rates of silicates in the harsh Martian environment.

Hello,
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and has a great New Year. To everyone that wonders where I’ve been: I have had 3 strokes this fall and have been hospitalized 3 times. I haven’t been incapacitated but my coordination has worsened and I can’t walk properly. I don’t know if the symptoms will resolve or even if the strokes are totally finished. When I had the one, I thought it was over but it hit two more times. It’s the result of not eating properly (as you can see my posted food pics) and lots of work/life stress. I am on all my meds now and eating better, so I hope it works out.
If I am not back on again, I’d like to thank everyone who has been a friend/contact here. I’ve had a good 15 years on here. Hopefully, my symptoms will resolve by the time spring travel gets here and I can continue. If not, this will be my farewell but I will leave everything up.
Thanks and God bless.
Bill

What better way to celebrate it than taking a look back at my little container garden last September.
It's amazing how much food it's possible to grow in such tiny space.
It's only about 8 sq meters or 86 sq ft.
Nature is amazing.
