The Enchanted City is a Spanish natural area of calcareous or limestone rock formations formed over thousands of years. It is located near Valdecabras, in the municipality of Cuenca (Spain), in a wide area of pine forests in the southern part of the Cuenca mountains and at an altitude of 1,500 meters.
It was declared a Natural Site of National Interest on June 11, 1929. The action of water, wind and ice has made this karstic phenomenon possible. The heterogeneity of the rocks in terms of their morphology, chemical composition and degree of hardness is what has allowed their uneven wear by atmospheric elements, resulting in a surprising sample of picturesque art from nature itself. To the whimsical and spectacular existing formations we must add lapiaces, torques and sinkholes.
It shares these characteristics especially with "Los Callejones", a place located in the municipality of Las Majadas. Both places are part of the Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park, created by the Law of the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha 5/2007.

One of my attempts at the "Smile on Saturday" theme "La vie en rose".
Also a little testshot for the Macro Mondays theme "My Closest" where the goal is to get as close as possible... This isn't that of course (the little pearl has a length of around 10 mm, so this is probably a 3.5:1 magnification) but way over the limit for this lens. It might not look very impressive, but I find it quite remarkable what it is able to do because I'd consider this way out of its optimum range. I have to admit I don‘t know these things too well… so if I‘m wrong on that, please correct me!

Having made quite a few trips to the KCS over the last 5 years, it's getting to the point where I've shot the Vicksburg bridge about every way possible. Did realize that one thing I haven't included in the scene on any previous visits is the parallel cantilever truss that carries traffic on Interstate 20, opened in 1973 43 years after the railroad bridge.

With the line to Caerphilly closed for a weekend possession, an engineering train, its services no longer required, leaves the branch and approaches Cardiff Queen Street en-route back to base.
The working is the 9.00am Cardiff Queen Street - Westbury Down (6A04), in the hands of Freightliner 'Sheds' 66621 and 66592 (tailing). Three other engineering trains remained on the branch, with the possession eventually lifted in time for Monday morning passenger services to resume.
I'd spotted this one on the virtual signal diagram and kept a close eye on it through breakfast for a possible early departure. Thankfully it ran close to schedule so no need to choke on the eggs and bacon and, even better, the clouds played ball too. A nice start to the day given how rare loco-hauled services are just here these days. Best viewed large.

I have been fascinated for some time by the diversity of texture and form of the plants that grow on the roadside verges.
The problem for image creation is that all the leaves are green. However, with the latest selection tools in Photoshop it is possible to select individual leaves and treat them differently,
I am currently trying two approaches: black and white which emphasises texture; and, colour.
This is one of my first attempts using colour. I think the use of colour should allow me to illustrate the competitive nature of the enviornment.
....it's all about the light :) I loved walking in the snow looking for things to photograph against this warm light. this was my last image this day, after that I just sat in the snow watching the sun disappear in the horizon. a good day.
today is not so good, I'm sick and trying to rest in bed as much as possible. since it's friday evening now, I'll get my blanket and move over to the sofa for a while :) I will be back when I'm feeling better.
enjoy your weekend :)
The Garden sits nestled in the West Hills of Portland, Oregon overlooking the city and providing a tranquil, urban oasis for locals and travelers alike. Designed in 1963, it encompasses 12 acres with eight separate garden styles, and includes an authentic Japanese Tea House, meandering streams, intimate walkways, and a spectacular view of Mt. Hood. This is a place to discard worldly thoughts and concerns and see oneself as a small but integral part of the universe.
Born out of a hope that the experience of peace can contribute to a long lasting peace. Born out of a belief in the power of cultural exchange. Born out of a belief in the excellence of craft, evidence in the Garden itself and the activities that come from it. Born out of a realization that all of these things are made more real and possible if we honor our connection to nature.
As much as I try to avoid using my drone whenever possible, there are some times when I'm just too intrigued as to what it would look like. I didn't expect the view of the Battle River Valley, looking northeast, to be half as pretty as this - but I couldn't help but feel amazed looking at the drone controller. A westbound grain train led by a newly rebuilt AC44C6M set the stage, as they rolled across the expanse. Although the trestle looks smaller from the sky, the true size of it is amplified when you can see the whole train in one image. I try not to fall in love with drone images too often, as I think they're kind of cheating… but I couldn't think of a better photo to end the trip with.

We have some wonderful rough seas on the South coast of the UK...people tend to forget the power behind the waves. The temptation is always to get as close as possible to that wonderful raw energy...especially when you have a camera in your hands!!
“So, what are you worried about, Sky?” Asked Barnaby as the bears gathered around for the man to take their photograph.
“Quite a lot, Barnaby. Honey supplies for a start.”
“Honey supplies, Sky? What is the problem?” Asked Bertie also looking concerned.
“It all comes down to the man. He is trying different places where he gets his food from using the complonker. He uses new digits to order and while I have watched and think I have the new ones I was not sure.”
“Sky, the man had the usual van deliver his things last week, I saw it there and was waiting for our stuff but it did not come.” Said Posh Bear.
“No, it is all getting confusing. The man seems to be ordering from both the new one and the old one, which makes it difficult for me to know which one to add our things to. Anyway, I think the man is going bonkers.” Said Sky.
“I quite agree, Sky, but then we have always thought that.” Said Bertie smiling.
“No, I mean totally bonkers, Bertie. When the man had a friend around here recently, I noticed that they were both talking to a green growing plant his has. He has even given it a name and was calling it Vera and he was saying hello to it. It didn’t answer, and his friend even tried but the plant ignored them.”
“Are you sure, Sky?” Asked Posh Bear looking worried.
“Yes, they both kept on saying hello Vera to this plant. Is that weird or what? Then he starts ordering his things from two suppliers.”
“That is very strange behaviour, Sky, I agree. I wonder why he called it Vera? Why not Sky, Bertie, Theo, or Posh, like we are called? Why give the green thing that grows a name at all? All very strange, but not that important to us bears. Now, the possible lack of honey, well that is different.” Said Posh Bear.
“Luckily Posh, we have a genius at the helm of ordering, and I have taken measures to make certain that we still can order from now on.”
“Sky is such a genius.” Said Barnaby looking in admiration at his friend.
“I know, Barnaby, but as I was saying.” Said Sky
“So modest with it too.” Chimed in Bertie giggling.
“As I was saying, I am now ordering from both suppliers, however, there is a slight problem in that if they both supply, we may have a little more than normal.”
“You say a little more, Sky, roughly how much more?” Asked Posh Bear.
“Well, just in case one supplier did not send us what we ordered, I added extra to both orders. Well, I think I did for I was never much good at numbers, so, well I think we had better make extra room to store what comes.”
“So, is it fair to say that you do not know what you ordered then, Sky?” Asked Bertie.
“Well, I am not totally sure, Bertie, but if you need to know I am sure that Vera would know for she was looking at the screen as I did the ordering. So, do you speak green growing thingy, Bertie?”
“Time will tell, Bertie, we will soon find out.” Said Posh Bear smiling.

Already tired from our second attempt to find the Spinifex Pigeon, Nita decided she needed a rest and went to sit near the parking area where there are several facilities.
I was somewhat disappointed, but not entirely; after all, the trip had allowed us to find the Pink Cockatoo.
I started wandering alone towards the west of the camping area when I began to notice and photograph some activity, first a Thornbill, then a group of what I initially thought were Variegated Fairywrens, which I had photographed on a previous visit.
Suddenly, I noticed that the males didn’t have the characteristic reddish back. I analyzed the photos more carefully and... a great and magnificent surprise, they were the Splendid Fairywrens!
I began photographing every opportunity they gave me while shouting, “Nita, Nita,” but Nita couldn’t hear me.
Dilemma: should I go call her and risk losing the chance to improve my photos (she will say I made the wrong choice), or should I stay and possibly never see them again?
At first, I chose the first option and, after a few more photos, decided on the second.
When I finally found her and we returned to the spot, as I feared, they were gone, but at least I had some photos.
With Nita feeling quite disappointed but resigned, we were heading back when, near the creek, we noticed some activity. There they were, now just a pair, but that was enough.
We began following them and trying to capture every possible moment, and in one of those moments, I got this shot. Along the way, both Nita and I captured several poses, although they were almost always either a bit distant or surrounded by too much vegetation. Nevertheless, since we had several opportunities, we were very satisfied.
And the best was yet to come.

Left for the pond a couple of hours ago. A bit windy, but a comfortable 76°. I saw this one damselfly, and only one. I can't be sure because I got this one close up, and have nothing to compare it to (and I'm out of practice after the smoky season shutdown). It's a bluet, and that's as far as I'm willing to go. Meanwhile, after an hour. it was getting warmer, and I decided to head home. It was 101° when I "hit" the front door. Just made it.

Collection: The poetry of invisible movements: It is inevitable, points of conflict, lines of organization and insurrection, invisibility. Time passes... over. A look, a step, a gesture, the lines of the city or any detail, completed by the look, creating a poetics in the movements that only exist in the encounter between bodies, photographer, place, people photographed and who sees the photo, and this can generate a power of presence, a static dance.

Continuing to review our 2024 travels. We typically visit Arizona in early spring before the intense heat sets in. After a few days in the Tucson area, we head north to Page.
The Grand Canyon is just a short detour from the main highway between Flagstaff and Page. We usually don't do it, but the sky was moody and turbulent that day and I thought some good photo ops might be possible. I was right.
Glad there not gone and so much to pick from

Another picture of the supercell over Aduard on 5 June, 2015. Unfortunately the quality of the photograph is subpar due to the variations in lighting levels along the length of the panorama.
Clearly visible is a mesocyclone in the form of a rotating wall cloud in the centre, which minutes previously had been much more prominent and, according to reports, reached about 70% to the ground.
Also clearly visible is an inflow tail and an RFD to the right, as well as a general inflow cloud, here coming in from the north/the right side of the picture. You can also see what is possible a sattelite rotation here.
