A Thames sailing barge of the type once common around the Thames estuary and England's East Coast. Being flat bottomed with a shallow draft of only two and a half feet they could sail into the creeks and inlets around the Thames estuary to carry goods. The collapsible main mast allowed them to sail under bridges.They were also very stable and possessed cargo space above and below deck.
This scene was shot in my back yard in the NY City area where I'm a bit too lazy to clean up the leaves. The skull, chains, and gargoyle props are cheap plastic Halloween props from Target. The model, @Sandra Santiago, supplied the dress.
This was shot in the late afternoon in the shade with a Speedlite on a 10 foot tripod. The camera was mounted on a tripod at the height of the model's knee.

The Sirinean Water Dragon (aka The Dark-Eyed Maiden)
The Sirinean water dragon was a water dwelling creature of monstrous proportions and fearsome appearance. This legendary beast has appeared in tales dating back centuries, mainly in countries bordering the Aegean Sea. The name itself was derived from the word "siren" because of the manner in which the creature lured it's victims to their doom. The etymology of the name has led some scholars to postulate the country of origin to be Greece, however this theory has never been fully proven.
The Sirinean water dragon had a broad, barrel-chested abdomen (bespeckled with dark spots) ending in a long scaly fish tail. While it possessed a strong set of back flippers used primarily for swimming, it also had a powerful pair of scaly forearms outfitted with sharp claws, mainly used to move about on land. It accomplished this by pushing off the ground with it's flippers and dragging it's body with the front claws. Due to this shortcoming of mobility, it rarely traveled anything but short distances and only when necessary. The most striking physical feature of the Sirinean water dragon was it's three long necks, each capped off with a different ghastly head. The first head was that of a spotted, bearded dragon with a single horn on the snout and bat-like ears. The second head was bird-like in appearance with a sharp beak, lined with small, razor-sharp teeth. It had the ears of a goat and several tentacle-like appendages that sprouted from the top of the cranium. The most disturbing feature of this particular head was the serpent that emerged from it's mouth in place of a tongue. The third head was that of a dark-haired, young maiden. However, unlike the other two heads, this one was a decoy. It was controlled by the nerve centers in the other heads, much like an appendage. It was used for one purpose only; to lure men to their watery graves.
It did this by one of two methods. When it sensed a traveler approaching, it submerged itself down into the small lagoon it inhabited. Although this pool of water was meager in diameter, it was quite deep and descended down several miles, maintaining a frigid temperature despite the warm climate of the surrounding environment. Once the entire body was fully submerged, it would raise it's decoy head and allow it to protrude up out of the water. It would either pretend to be a woman bathing or swimming in the pool, or it would pretend to be a drowning victim in need of help. Either way, it usually only allowed the head to protrude from the water from above the chin. Sometimes it would sink down further to just below the nose. Whether it decided to show itself from the front or the back, it made certain to keep it's eyelids and mouth closed. This decoy head did not actually contain eyeballs, but instead two horrid black holes, thus the sinister moniker "The Dark-Eyed Maiden". In addition to the hollow eyes, the mouth was equally unsettling, containing sharply pointed teeth. Revealing these traits would certainly have scared off potential victims, which is why the creature cleverly hid these features. In both luring methods, the beast would emit a noise from a voice box housed in the base of the neck. It was able to manipulate the reverberations of sound as they traveled up through the neck and out of the nose. Having the sound travel out of the nose allowed it to keep it's eyes and mouth closed when necessary. Given the situation, it could imitate sounds that closely resembled weeping, cries for help or seductive humming.
Once a traveler had been lured close to the edge of the lagoon, the beast would suddenly raise it's remaining two heads out of the water and each would attack the victim. With their jagged teeth, they would savagely rip it in two and pull it into the watery depths below to devour it. Some victims miraculously survived the initial attack and escaped, often losing limbs in the process. Because the bodies were always consumed deep below the surface, no trace of the victims was ever discernible. The Sirinean water dragon was said to only feed on the bodies of humans. Because it lived in a fairly isolated environment, it adapted to survive long periods of time without feeding, sometimes up to a year.
According to legend, the Sirinean water dragon was finally slain by a metalsmith named Tekkinos who was endowed with the gift of prophecy and often saw strange visions. One such vision foretold how the beast would ultimately be defeated by his own hand, and one day he set out to fulfill that prophecy. Armed with only a calfskin bag, some provisions, a bow, and a quiver containing a few arrows, he traveled for days until he came to the beast's lagoon. As was it's method, the creature allowed it's decoy head to bob up and down in the water and attempted to lure Tekkinos closer by singing sweetly seductive melodies. But Tekkinos had foreseen this in his vision and tread no further. Sensing that tactic was not working, the creature next began to utter pained cries of anguish, as if needing help, in a second attempt to lure Tekkinos to the water's edge. This also failed. As a last resort, it began to sob softly in pitifully mournful tones. But Tekkinos did not fall for this ruse. Instead he picked up some stones near the edge of the lagoon and flung them at the head bobbing in the water. This infuriated the creature and it rose up out of the water completely with it's three necks writhing about wildly. Just as it was lunging forward to devour Tekkinos alive, he reached into his calfskin bag and pulled out a small mechanical bird he had fashioned from scraps of copper. Activating the mechanism in the contraption, it took flight from his hand and flew around the creature's three heads, weaving in and out and pecking at their faces. Aggravated and enraged, the beast tried it's best to catch the bird, but in it's efforts it became entangled in it's own necks until they were one giant knot. Seizing the opportunity, Tekkinos reached for his bow, and carefully aiming, shot the creature deep in it's heart with an arrow and killed it. According to legend, upon it's death the beast let out a horrific sound like that of 1,000 vultures screeching and wailing.
In 1827, the earliest presumed representation of the legendary creature was discovered off the coast of Izmir Turkey. Credited for the find was noted British archeologist Edward Morley and his longtime benefactor James Harcourt, Earl of Kenton. This representation was in the form of a limestone sculpture 3 meters in height, depicting a three-headed aquatic monster being slain by an archer. This object appears to have been used as the decorative base of a stone column for an ancient structure of some kind, possibly a temple. Some archeologists still debate whether this object depicts the famed Sirinean water dragon. Because the artifact was discovered in Turkey, many historians now question whether Greece is the country of origin of the legend, as originally thought.

A motion picture based on the book came out in 1953. In the film version, Dr. Patrick Cory, the doctor who keeps the brain alive and is soon possessed by it, is played by actor Lew Ayres. Antoni Gaudi took over the design and construction of the Sagrada Familia church in 1883, to Gaudi died in 1926 the church building was still unfinished. Church construction continued until stopped when the Spanish civil war took place in 1936. After that the church construction continued, but has been slow because of the cost of construction of this church comes from public donations.
Until now the construction of the Church still continues to keep using public donations as a source of cost. Church entrance tickets sold are also used as a donation for the construction of the church.
Currently two of the three projects, namely the Nativity Facade and Passion Facade has been completed, while the Glory Facade work in progress. Eight towers have been completed and there are still 10 more towers to be completed. If it goes according to plan the construction of the Sagrada Familia church will be completed in 2026.
The uniqueness of the architecture of which is owned by the Sagrada Familia has even been noted as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the basilica itself has a long history for the citizens of Barcelona.
So if you want to visit the Sagrada Familia Barcelona in particular? Your visit will not lose, because you will be fascinated by the grandeur of the architecture of this building Sagrada Familia.

In its relatively short life, the French firm of Facel produced approximately 2,900 cars, all of which were stylish, luxurious and fast. Hand built, they were, of course, necessarily very expensive – the Facel II was priced in Rolls-Royce territory – and were bought by the rich and famous seeking something exclusive and distinctive. The roll call of owners includes royalty, politicians, diplomats and entertainers: Tony Curtis, Danny Kaye, Ringo Starr, Joan Fontaine, Ava Gardner, and Tony Franciosa - whose car is offered here - being counted among the latter. Confirming that there was high-performance substance behind Facel's unquestionable style, they were owned and driven by great motor racing figures such as Sir Stirling Moss, Maurice Trintignant and Rob Walker.
Founded by Jean Daninos in 1939, Forges et Ateliers de Construction d'Eure-et-Loir (FACEL) specialised in the construction of aircraft components and metal furniture. After the war the company engaged in the supply of car bodies to Panhard, Simca and Ford France, before branching out into automobile manufacture in its own right with the launch of the Vega at the 1954 Paris Salon. Government legislation had effectively killed off France's few surviving luxury car manufacturers after WW2, but that did not deter Jean Daninos in his bold attempt to revive what had once been a great French motoring tradition. A luxurious Grand Routier, the Vega took its name from the brightest star in the Lyra constellation and featured supremely elegant coupé bodywork welded to a tubular-steel chassis. There being no suitable French-built power unit, Daninos turned to the USA for the Vega's, that chosen initially being Chrysler's 4.5-litre, 180bhp V8, while there was a choice of push-button automatic or manual transmission.
Improvements to the first FV model were not long in coming, the FV1, introduced in March 1955, featuring a lengthened wheelbase for increased rear seat room and a 4.8-litre, 200bhp Chrysler V8. A few FV1 cabriolets were built but Daninos was not keen on soft-tops and production concentrated on fixed-head coupés, although there was also the Excellence, a limited-edition four-door saloon on an extended wheelbase.
An improved model, the HK500, appeared in 1957. Maximum power was now around 360bhp courtesy of the latest, 5.9-litre (later 6.3-litre) version of Chrysler's 'Hemi' V8 while top speed rose to around 140mph, making the HK500 one of the fastest cars of its era. Power steering became an option and Dunlop disc brakes were adopted as standard equipment in 1960. Capable of effortless and virtually silent 120mph cruising, the HK500 possessed, according to The Motor magazine, 'a brilliant combination of good comfort and quite exceptional roadholding'. HK 500 production amounted to just 500-or-so units between 1958 and 1961, and today this rare Franco-American Grande Routière is highly sought after.
The sixth HK500 produced, 'HK6-A6' was first registered in France as '3662 TTB 75' for 'Temporary Transit'. Facel's Attestation d'Identification on file shows that the car was originally finished in Dove Grey with black interior, while optional equipment included automatic transmission, power assisted steering, Rudge wheels, and a Radiomobile radio. The car was immediately exported and on 29th July 1958 was delivered to the Hotel Excelsior in Rome for its first owner, the celebrated American movie star, Tony Franciosa. It was not delivered through an agent but directly from Facel SA. At this time, Franciosa was in Italy for the filming of The Naked Maja, in which he played the role of Spanish painter Francisco Goya, starring alongside Ava Gardner. Soon after delivery, the Facel was photographed with Tony Franciosa and Ava Gardner, who also owned a Facel. For a long time it was assumed that the car in this famous photograph must have been Ava Gardner's, but Facel documentation confirms that it was Franciosa's.
Subsequently, the HK500 found its way to the USA where it went from California to Oregon, remaining there until 2011. Interestingly, somewhere during this period the rear lights were 'Americanised' while in the picture with Ava Gardner the car still had the European style rear lights. When advertised for sale, the Facel was described as phenomenally well preserved, with doors that shut perfectly, engine re-commissioned, and all over in very well maintained and largely original condition.
The current (Belgian) owner bought the car in the USA and proceeded to commission a full restoration to concours condition, which was carried out in France between 2011 and 2014 by marque specialists, Atelier Tisserand. An absolute fortune was spent to bring the car to its former glory, the exterior colour being changed to red in the process. Over the past four years the car has participated in several classic car events such as the prestigious Zoute Grand Prix in Belgium. Said to drive superbly, this supremely elegant motor car is offered with its old US Title, Facel Vega Car Club correspondence, restoration photographs and invoices, current Belgian registration papers (2014), and the aforementioned Attestation d'Identification from Facel Vega.

Over the years the Mahy family had collected a huge and also unique collection of classical and special cars. Grandfather Ghislain Mahy (1907-1999) started in the early 1950s to buy old cars just to prevent them from being scrapped. Initially he was intended to restore them, but soon his collection had grown beyond limits. In the 1980s he possessed over 1000 classical cars. After the death of patron Ghislain his son Ivan (84) and grandson Michel (56) became his successors in charge of the family treasures.
In the 1990s the Mahy collection had to leave the old Ghent Winter Circus building. Between 1996 and 1999 a huge operation was executed to move the whole collection to a new home in an old deserted textile factory in in Leuze-en-Hainaut (B). In this new museum some 1000 classic cars can be seen.

The Delahaye brand has been synonymous with build quality and performance since its inception. In 1933, a new series called "SuperLuxe" was presented at the Paris Salon, the 6-cylinder model of which caused a sensation. The type 138, will develop, thanks to an innovative chassis design, both large limousines and sports convertibles or racing cars. Quickly, the type 135 which derives from it is illustrated as well on the circuits as during the big rallies.
Type 158 is the touring version of Type 135 and has a 105 hp 6-cylinder engine.
The copy which is presented to you for sale is a very fine illustration of the union of two excellences. First of all, Delahaye offers a chassis equipped with superb mechanics. The 148 model which derives from the 135 model is both powerful and flexible to use. It energizes a very balanced chassis with vigor, and allows both walking use and great sporting performance. Equipped with a Cotal electromagnetic gearbox, the car can be driven by all members of the family with ease, and unlike the talbot lago, does not need to be used sports. Like any beautiful chassis, it will be bodied by a great Dutch master: Pennock.
Taking up balances close to those of Henri Chapron, it is an elegant 4-seater convertible body under a compass hood that dresses the 800213. The car leaves for us an enlightened enthusiast who did not pursue his project to restore it. Work on the bodywork had been undertaken a long time ago on the left side, while the right side shows a black paint that seems original. The mechanics seem quite complete. Its original interior is complete and the blue leathers are in a condition which could lead the discerning enthusiast to keep them.

This cabriolet was styled by Pennock, Den Haag/The Hague, NL. Pennock coach builders was established in 1886. At first they Olly built tramway and horse-drown carriages. In the 1920s & 1930s a lot of luxury bodies were made on chassis of several foreign luxury class car brands like Lagonda, Austin, Minerva, Armstrong Siddeley, and also for Delahaye.
The company was ceased in 1954.

Crows and/Ravens have always interests me...I think they are one of the most mysterious creatures in the world.
I integrated charcoal & graphite on this piece. The eye is selectively colored in dark red to portray some sort of "possession" so as to add more mystery to it's overall composition.
I drew this in a "loose"style. The background is intended to convey a dark mystical mood with strokes of charcoal.

Blog | Google+ | Facebook | While out shooting with Jackson Hung (whom I interviewed towards the end of last year), I stumbled into the scene you see here. Police had piled into Seoul's Gwanghwamun Square in preparation for organised protest in the wake of the Sewol disaster. Though uncomfortable in the presence of so many police, and after being advised to leave the area through fear of my own safety, I threw caution to the wind and focused on photographing what was such an unusual sight. After seeing the photographs that emerged from across the peninsula that weekend, I realised the importance that photography plays in portraying history as it unfolds; the images painted a more accurate picture of the mood in Korea at that time than I have seen written anywhere.
