Portland & Western’s Harbor Turn bisects the small rural city of North Plains, Oregon on the United Railway District as it makes its way back to the yard at Tigard. I happened across this train as I was leaving work in Hillsboro, and lucked out with some nice sun in North Plains here.

Very plain stickers on a fancy background.

For Macro Mondays, sticker.

The sprayed water beads up on the plastic, but not on the stickers.

The only reason I bought these stickers was to be sure to have something green for St. Patrick's Day.

Avery calls them labels. They are 3/4" across.

One of the largest insects in the country, plains lubbers can emerge in massive numbers when the conditions are right. Unable to fly due to their considerable bulk and undersized wings, these grasshoppers prefer to walk and hop short distances as they scour the ground for a variety of food sources including both plant and animal material. These lumbering beasts are native to the Great Plains, parts of the Southwest, and northern Mexico. We saw thousands in varied habitats in the Davis Mountains and adjacent semi-arid prairie and desert scrub.

Zebras have legs that are long and slender but very strong, enabling the zebra to run up to 40 miles per hour to escape predators. In addition, the zebra is nimble enough to evade predators or to kick them at close range. In fact, the zebra can use its hooves to deliver a kick capable of injuring or even killing an animal as large as a lion.

Constantly on the watch for lions and hyenas, a herd helps with all of its extra eyes to monitor for danger. If a zebra is attacked, other zebras come to its defense and form a circle around it to ward off the predator. ... Zebras are often found mingling with other animals, adding extra protection against threats.

The Plains bison (Bison bison bison) is one of two subspecies of the American bison, the other being the wood bison (B. b. athabascae). They are the largest land mammal in North America with some adult bulls weighing in excess of 2,000 pounds. Tens of millions of these iconic beasts once roamed across much of North America. Remnants of historical herds remain only in national/state parks and various refuges. Photo taken in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in SW Oklahoma. Our beautiful world being passed on.
