Plas Newydd is a country house set in gardens, parkland and surrounding woodland on the north bank of the Menai Strait, in Llanddaniel Fab, near Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey, Wales. The current building has its origins in 1470, and evolved over the centuries to become one of Anglesey's principal residences. Owned successively by Griffiths, Baylys and Pagets, it became the country seat of the Marquesses of Anglesey, and the core of a large agricultural estate. The house and grounds, with views over the strait and Snowdonia, are open to the public, having been owned by the National Trust since 1976. (Wikipedia)

IN ENGLISH BELOW THE LINE

==================

At the upper side of the Vall de Cardós, surrounded by some of the highest peaks of the Catalan Pyrenees, such as Certascan, Broate, Baborte and Sotllo, lays the Pla de Boavi ("Boavi plain"). It's gentle rolling surface, filled with meadows and trees, watered by the Noguera de Lladorre, contrasts with all the bare rock and the coasts that surround it.

It's very clean and well-kept now, but I remember going there in the 80s, when you could get there by car, full of disgusting people free camping and littering it all. Good work has been done here.

It has always made me think of a kind of Catalan version of Rivendel, Elrond's last house in Middle-earth.

Plas Brondanw in Garreg, Llanfrothen, Gwynedd, North Wales, was the family home of Clough Williams-Ellis, creator of the Italianate village Portmeirion, and elements of similar architectural styles can be seen at both locations. It is a grade II* listed building.

We took a detour to visit Plas Brondanw on the way home from our trip to Anglesey. The house was the home of Clough Williams-Ellis, the creator of Portmeirion and the small garden is well worth a visit.

From its earliest known resident in 1470, Plas Newydd passed by inheritance and marriage through 500 years of a family's increasing concentration of wealth, titles and estates, until the 7th Marquess of Anglesey presented it to the National Trust, so that the house and grounds could be opened to the public.

Y Rhiw

Plas yn Rhiw is a 17th-century manor house in Y Rhiw. The estate consists of a small house now in the Tudor/Georgian style, with a garden about one acre in size, along with a large wooded area. The estate overlooks the beach of Porth Neigwl, also known as Hells Mouth.

The history of the manor's estate predates the house by some 4000 years to the neolithic period.

A house was originally built here by Meirion Goch in the 10th century to prevent incursions by Vikings into Hells Mouth.

This house was construction in the early 17th century, since then it has been remodelled several times, ending in the 1940s when three unmarried sisters donated it to the National Trust in memory of their parents, Constance and William Keating.

Prior to the donation they refurbished the garden and restored the manor house to its former glory. The sisters, who lived in the house until each of their deaths are buried at the Church of St. Maelrhys in Porth Ysgo which features in previous photos.

Plas yn Rhiw is the only organic National Trust garden in Wales. There is also an orchard on site with many different varieties of apples.
