I know it's not until tomorrow but Happy Pi Day! Our favorite Scientist Cute Couple decided to celebrate Pi Day with their favorite Pie - looks like they chose lemon :-) Yum!
Pi Scorpii is the bottom star of the head of Scorpius.
Pi Scorpii is surrounded with a Hydrogen Alpha nebula, while there are Blue Reflection nebulae throughout the image.
This obect was very difficult to image and process. It only reaches a maximum of 19.5 degrees from my observatory. I began shooting when it reached 15 degrees, and I could only manage approx 2 hours a night. This is image is 12 hrs of RGB and 2hrs of Lum. Taken in April and May with an FSQ106ED and Atik 11 Meg on a Mesu 200 mount.
With an object this low, I lost two nights where the entire sky except a thin portion of the Southern horizon with some cloud was enough to mean I had to dump the data.
There were gradients and colour balance issues also with the data. I have pushed this much further than I normally do, including extreme star work to prevent them dominating the image.

Perchée sur une antenne, je n'ai vu cette pie-griéche qu'un seule fois en une semaine et je n'ai pu faire qu'une seule photo..

What better way to celebrate Pi Day than with a homemade Apple Pi ? How about some homemade Mince Pies, or a Key Lime Pi, a Chocolate Mousse Pi, a Raspberry Pi, or maybe a Pecan Pi. We've invited the neighbors over to celebrate and that's the dessert menu. Main course ? A half dozen Pizzas with all manner of toppings.
Have yourselves a great Pi Day, friends ! Slainte !

The We're Here! gang is celebrating March 14 – Pi Day in the U.S. Here in Canada, we do day/month/year, so no pie for Canada.
And happy birthday to Albert Einstein, who was born on this date in 1879.
How often does Pi Day fall on the full moon? Perhaps an average of once about every 29 years.
This is a very small slice of Key lime pie.
Pi: You really need to fix this driveway.
Me: um, yeah, that's how I got that bruise on my hip.
Pi: You know you aren't supposed to be doing anything while you are pregnant.
Me: yeah, nice theory, YOU gonna do all the work?

Pi: take your medicine like a GOOD pregnant lady.
Me: sheesh, you don't have to taste the stuff.
Pi: I'd be happy to taste ANYTHING lady, don't complain, drink up.

I hope that Requiem is better than Pi. I hope that Pi is better than my student films, and I'm hoping that I'm getting better as I get older.

On March 14:
Math fresh graduate: Let's celebrate by eating my handmade pi pie.
Math professor (sternly): Let's prove the pi-theorem first.
All over SE Asia New Year is celebrated in mid April. Years are measured by the Buddhist calendar so it's now 2561.
New year has always been celebrated with water. Cleansing Buddha statues, people and property. That has changed over the years into a massive water-fight.
In Laos the New Year celebration is called Pi Mai and the Laotians take the water fight deadly serious. In Luang Prabang in the North East of the country the water-fight is observed like nowhere else in SE Asia I am told. It lasts for about 6 days and everyone is fair game. It's impossible to leave your lodgings without getting soaked to the bone in 2 minutes.
The only thing to do is drink a load of beer, wrap the camera in a plastic bag and hope for the best.
