Taken at the Tiger Temple in Thailand. Not only does my face look rather odd (on account of that awkward position they made me sit in). But lets face it, as soon as I opened my mouth to speak they told me to HUSH in case the tiger decided to jump up and have a mid afternoon snack! Worse they wouldn't let me stroke it. Oh well.

when habanero is the very first ingredient listed on the nutrition label, you know its gunna be hot. this sauce is rated at 50,000 scoville units. to put that in perspective, a jalapeno is between 2500 and 8000. habaneros are between 100,000 and 580,000. the scale goes up to 16,000,000. a couple drops of this is all you need to warm a bowl of chili. this is one of the latest additions.. i love hot sauce.

New York is the most populous city in the United States and the center of the New York metropolitan area, one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world.[6] The city is referred to as New York City or the City of New York to distinguish it from the State of New York, of which it is a part. A global power city,[7] New York exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment. The home of the United Nations Headquarters,[8] New York is an important center for international diplomacy[9] and has been described as the cultural capital of the world.[10][11]

On one of the world's largest natural harbors,[12] New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a county of New York State.[13] The five boroughs—the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island—were consolidated into a single city in 1898.[14] With a census-estimated 2013 population of 8,405,837[4] distributed over a land area of just 305 square miles (790 km2),[15] New York is the most densely populated major city in the United States.[16] As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York,[17][18] making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world.[19] By 2013 census estimates, the New York Metropolitan Area's population remains by a significant margin the United States' largest Metropolitan Statistical Area, with approximately 19.9 million people,[20] and is also part of the most populous Combined Statistical Area in the United States, containing an estimated 23.4 million people.

Icy wind blows between the houses, flashes quickly in the night on the streets of the rotten city. A shade, a woman, her eyes are shiver and charm, her look magnetize you, it won't let you go.

This is the second Baz Luhrmann film that I'm quoting in this series.

Continuing on with my affinity for twisted love stories....Luhrman's 1996 film Romeo+Juliet is a modern interpretation of the classic Shakespeare, anachronistically juxtaposing Shakespeare's original language against a modern landscape of consumption and capitalism.

As with all of Luhrman's films, the visual style is rich and detailed, vibrantly coloured and surreal. He paints a rather sickening view of modern society, with petty vanities slathered upon the grotesque criminals of upper class society. In the midst of such ugliness, Romeo and Juliet emerge, as yet untouched by the poisonous world around them.

I've read criticism that claims Romeo and Juliet must die in order to keep their love untainted. This film takes that purity one step further: In the end Romeo and Juliet have no choice but to die, or to succumb to the grotesqueries that their parents have grown into.

This film accomplishes the ideal that I believe all film adaptations of stage plays should strive toward: it brings the work of theatre to life in a manner unique to film, using the capabilities of the medium to inform a new, deeper understanding of the original work. The play is incredibly powerful on its own. Luhrmann has built upon Shakespeare's original work to create something contemporary, relevant, beautiful and impassioned. I am in awe of his work.

These two beautiful Mute Swans sharing a tender moment together is a nice way of ending August don't you think? See you all in September!! ;)

•Large, all-white waterfowl.

•Long, curved neck.

•Orange bill and black face.

"The Mute Swan is reported to mate for life. However, changing of mates does occur infrequently, and swans will remate if their partner dies. If a male loses his mate and pairs with a young female, she joins him on his territory. If he mates with an older female, they go to hers. If a female loses her mate, she remates quickly and usually chooses a younger male."

We had a few minutes to go around the Botanic Garden in Oxford one cloudy Sunday afternoon. The Cherwell River runs along much of its boundary. Here is the introduction from the current Wikipedia article:

University of Oxford Botanic Garden, the oldest botanic garden in Great Britain, and the third oldest scientific garden in the world, was founded in 1621 as a physic garden growing plants for medicinal research. Today it contains over 8,000 different plant species on 1.8 hectares (4½ acres). It is one of the most diverse yet compact collections of plants in the world and includes representatives from over 90% of the higher plant families.

In 1621, Sir Henry Danvers, the First Earl of Danby, contributed £5,000 (equivalent to £744,000 in 2005)[1] to set up a physic garden for "the glorification of the works of God and for the furtherance of learning". He chose a site on the banks of the River Cherwell at the northeast corner of Christ Church Meadow, belonging to Magdalen College. Part of the land had been a Jewish cemetery until the Jews were expelled from Oxford (and the rest of England) in 1290.

The Garden comprises three sections:

·the Walled Garden, surrounded by the original seventeenth century stonework and home to the Garden's oldest tree, an English yew, Taxus baccata;

·the Glasshouses, which allow the cultivation of plants needing protection from the extremes of British weather; and

·the area outside the walled area between the Walled Garden and the River Cherwell.

Sunday:

I'm a day behind on posting and likely won't post today's until tomorrow because I can't find my USB cord! I hate when that happens but like I've said, if it goes in my hands, odds are I'll lose it :D

Yesterday was a nice easy going day though but we spent nearly all of it looking at houses which can be so exhausting! We'd like to find just the right house too which is stressful since none of us really agree on what we want...But hey, as long as my dogs have a nice yard and I have a phone outlet in my room for my laptop, I'm pretty much happy...

The otehr day though my mum let Dash out with Tanda by accident. I've been keeping the two apart because Tanda has such a srong hatred toward him. She seriously looks like she'd enjoy ripping his head off...

Well, she let's Dash out by accident and in a split second Tanda attacks him. Now, Dash is okay, Mum yelled and Tanda left him alone in a second, but it left everyone shaken up...I wasn't home for this though which of course made Mum more nervous...

I didn't get upset with Tanda though because really, in her mind she's asserting her territory and place as Alpha and Dash is the new little Omega popping his head around...I'm concerned about what to do though...I don't want either dog being harmed but I would like them to get along...I have a few plans though:

1. Tanda will be spayed and soon. I'm calling the vet Tuesday morning and finding out how much it will cost. This will balance her hormones a little and she really needs the boost for her immune system because even the vet advised it because of how badly in shape her body used to be.

2. I want to take Tanda and Dash to a park and walk them around. I know that might sound odd but see, each dog believes they're the Alpha and I believe if I remove them from their own territory into foreign land, they'll of course be more interested in what's going on around them than each other. I'm hoping by doing this they'll get used to being in each other's presence and will eventually start to tolerate each other's company and hopefully one day not want to attack one another. It will also exhaust them and therefore also tone down aggression on both ends...

Of course I would really appreciate any and all input advice :D

Now I'll work on TODAY'S photo hehe and post it tomorrow because I feel so worn out...I need more sleep please :D

Oloron-Sainte-Marie is a commune of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques département in southwestern France.

Oloron Cathedral (Cathédrale Sainte-Marie d'Oloron-Sainte-Marie) is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in the town of Oloron-Sainte-Marie, France. It was the seat of the Bishopric of Oloron, suppressed by the Concordat of 1801.

CASTELLANO

The Pantheon (meaning "every god" in Greek) is a building in Rome, originally built by Marcus Agrippa as a temple to all the gods of Ancient Rome, and rebuilt in the early 2nd century AD. A near-contemporary writer, Cassius Dio, speculates that the name comes from the statues of many gods placed around the building, or from the resemblance of the dome to the heavens. Since the French Revolution, when the church of Sainte-Geneviève, Paris, was deconsecrated and turned into a secular monument, the Panthéon, the generic term pantheon may be applied to any building in which illustrious dead are honoured or buried.

The building is circular with a portico of three ranks of huge granite Corinthian columns (eight in the first rank and two groups of four behind) under a pediment opening into the rotunda, under a coffered, concrete dome, with a central opening (oculus) open to the sky. Almost two thousand years after it was built, the Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome. The height to the oculus and the diameter of the interior circle are the same, 43.3 metres (142 ft). A rectangular structure links the portico with the rotunda. It is one of the best preserved of all Roman buildings. It has been in continuous use throughout its history. Since the 7th century, the Pantheon has been used as a Roman Catholic church dedicated to "St. Mary and the Martyrs" but informally known as "Santa Maria Rotonda. [Text adapted from wikipedia]

Falco naumanni

the forest fires which are burning all up and down california are of course nature's way

and yet ..

hearts are with the wild animals for whom this was home!

and with the human folks, and their dear pets and pastured animals, who live where the fires are ferociously encroaching...

~

am hesitant to even write of these fires in any personal way ..

yet my heart compels me to ... as two of the places that have been most fiercely engulfed in flames are the places i've most fiercely loved..

big sur and carmel valley

carmel valley is where, right before coming to hawaii, i lived in a cabin in the middle of nowhere ...

owls, bobcat, swallows, rattlesnakes, donkeys, cows and stars were my only neighbors.

on the same land, a little lake was home to many wild things.. including a beloved (albeit crabby :) swan .. many ducks and ducklings .. and fish

and it was a stopover for orchestras of canada geese ...

i so hope this bit of land is safe... have not been able to find out ..

(of all the places i've ever lived, i loved it most.)

and...

over several enchanted years in the 1970's, i lived in four magical places in big sur ... and worked at three.

from what i can tell from the news, all of these homes may be gone .... and all of the places i worked have fire licking at their edges.

the initial big sur fire, called "the coast gallery fire", started from lightning at the coast gallery, high above the sea.

do not know if the gallery, which served all the artists of big sur back then, is now still there..

the "coast gallery" is where i first lived and worked in big sur..

(and where somehow the gallery itself held on when the mountain there collapsed into the sea.. literally right up to my doorstep.. taking with it the sole road, that part of highway 1 .. and, most sadly, a precious soul who was working on the highway in the middle of the night, just after the outset of this sudden landslide.)

the two other places i worked, "ventana" (when it first opened) and the historic "nepenthe", have been evacuated and are in severe danger right now.

the magical house described in another image on my stream .. the one where potato vines grew up and through the walls in my attic home.. then flowered! .. is likely gone.....

as it was above the wonderful "deetjen's big sur inn", where fires came down the mountain and right up to the cottages and restaurant of the inn.

also lived in an artist studio high atop a ridge where the fires have blazed homes..

and, at the other end of big sur, i lived in a cottage with my boyfriend sandy, a harpsichord maker ...

from what i can gather, that cottage and the harpsichord studio that sandy and i built are gone.

so...

these personal connections are only the tiniest of tiny specks in the whole..

but i am sorrowful.

~

my whole heart goes out to everyone whose homes all along the coastal areas of california, and inland, are in danger or have burned ...

and especially to the wild animals and their babies of spring.

≈ prayers for them .. all and each ≈

Castell'arquato (Vi),domenica 01\08\2010

Qualcosa in faccia , in testa ...

Scatto, no ... ho l'obiettivo sbagliato ! "

Fatto! immortalata!"

Giusto in tempo.

E' proprio vero: a volte i sogni diventano realtà !

"Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for [God's] wrath; for it is written, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay (requite), says the Lord"

(Romans 12:19, AMP).

We all go through situations where we’re not being treated fairly. Maybe somebody is talking behind your back or trying to make you look bad, maybe you were overlooked for a promotion or cheated in a business deal. When we’re being mistreated, the natural thing is to try to defend ourselves and set the record straight. Human nature wants to get even and get revenge. But the scripture says, “Vengeance is Mine… says the Lord.” That means God wants to make your wrongs right. He wants to pay you back for every unfair thing that has happened. He is a God of justice.

Notice what today’s scripture says: you can either avenge yourself or you can let God be your avenger, but you can’t have it both ways. If you take matters into your own hands, then God is going to step back and say, “Go ahead, do it your way. Looks like you don’t need My help.” But on the other hand, if we choose to stay on the high road and say, “No, I’m going to let God be my avenger and trust God to bring justice into my life”, then you are leaving the way open for God to move mightily on your behalf!

I was crossing the street against the light, jaywalking technically, when this SUV screeched to a halt. He’s honking and I’m cursing and showing him the dainty thrust of my middle finger – it’s long and skinny, see?

But the moment I turn to face him, my gutter girl lips curled and crude, he smiles at me. His white plastic teeth glisten in the street lights. Twenty six identical white orbs, shining between cracked lips. I wave – thanks – and I cross the street. But he doesn’t drive on. He honks at me, and I turn to see if I have dropped anything in the intersection. My phone? My wallet? My shoe?

It hits me fast and hard, heat steaming from the hood, brutal metal force.

I hear my body crack, a sharp snap followed by a percussion of fleshy thumps.

Tires screech. Someone swears somewhere far far away. My ears disappear into a cushion of silence, and everything grows suddenly cold and still. My body spins and glides through the air, a graceful cartwheel, limbs flying to be free.

I tumble along the ground, rocks and cement pressing slowly against my skin until it ruptures and opens to consume.

I stand and brush myself off, feeling oddly loose and free. My body sways as I walk, and I feel a cool rush, like a waterfall is trickling against my skin. In the distance I think maybe I hear someone shouting, but I don’t know, I don’t want to know what’s wrong in their world.

I stumble forward, listening to bells ringing beneath the sound of the city, and I open the nearest doorway. There is a girl behind a glass wall, and she looks upset, but she tells me a number, and I think she means for money.

I hand her a wad of cash from my back pocket. It feels moist and strange in my palm, but she nods, and I walk deeper into the building until I find myself in an auditorium, sitting still.

There are lights and people all around me and I wonder why I'm here, but as I sit the lights go dim and I think I’m blacking out. I hear the sound of violins, calling through the air.

It’s just me and the ringing sound of strings, and the sound is so beautiful it cuts me.

The music breaths, in and out, softly softly, until it grows to a moan and a groan and a low bellow. The cellos are stirring, and they shake me to the core, and there is a world awakening beneath my skin. My bones are buzzing and my skin is crawling, and somewhere someone is shouting, screaming screaming.

I wonder, won’t she stop? I’d like to hear this.

But then I realize she is me.

The music stirs beneath my skin, and I scream and scream as one thousand tiny cracks blossom within my bones.

ENGLISH

Rupit and Pruit (in Catalan Rupit i Pruit) are a municipality of the region of Osona located to the northeast of the region and the east of the Sierra de Cabrera. It is integrated by two urban nuclei: Rupit and Pruit, that they were independent until year 1980. It is the last town of the province of Barcelona in the highway that unites the municipalities of Vic, capital of the region of Osona and Olot, capital of the region of the Garrotxa (Girona).

The origin of the town we found in the castle that was constructed around year 1000, replacing the one of Fàbregues, where they went constructing houses around.

In 14th century the population underwent a reduction but it recovered, arriving in 17th and 18th centuries at the maximum splendor that has never had the town. The church was possibly built between 13th and 14th centuries, and it was dedicated to San Miguel Arcángel.

Pruit already names in year 955, when it belonged to viscounts of Osona. Always there is been united to the castle and jurisdiction of Rupit.

CASTELLANO

The Star of India at San Diego Harbor, August 2006. The Star of India was launched in 1863 and is the oldest ship in the world that still maintains a regular sailing schedule. She is a unique and cherished community icon that has been welcoming visitors on the San Diego waterfront for more than 75 years. Onboard are exhibits chronicling her career as an immigrant ship and commercial vessel during which she made 21 trips around the world.

MORE INFORMATION ON THE STAR OF INDIA:

The Star of India was built in 1863 as Euterpe, a full-rigged iron windjammer ship in Ramsey, Isle of Man. After a full career sailing from Great Britain to India then to New Zealand, she became a salmon hauler on the Alaska then to California route. After retirement, she was restored and is now a seaworthy museum ship ported in San Diego. The ship is both a California and National Historic Landmark, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

As Euterpe: Named for Euterpe, the muse of music, she was a full-rigged ship (a ship that has 3 masts and squaresails on all 3 masts) built of iron in 1863 by Gibson, McDonald & Arnold, of Ramsey, Isle of Man, British Isles, for the Indian jute trade of Wakefield Nash & Company of Liverpool. She was launched on November 14, 1863, and assigned British Registration No.47617 and signal VPJK.

Euterpe's career had a rough beginning. She sailed for Calcutta from Liverpool on January 9, 1864, under the command of Captain William John Storry. A collision with an unlighted, hit-and-run Spanish brig off the coast of Wales carried away the jib-boom and damaged other rigging. The crew became mutinous, refusing to continue, and she returned to Anglesey to repair; 17 of the crew were confined to the Beaumaris Gaol at hard labor. Then, in 1865, Euterpe was forced to cut away her masts in a gale in the Bay of Bengal off Madras and limped to Trincomalee and Calcutta for repair. Captain Storry died during the return voyage to England and was buried at sea.

After her near-disastrous first two voyages Euterpe was sold, first in 1871 to David Brown of London for whom she made four more relatively uneventful voyages to India, then again (displaced by steamers after the opening of the Suez Canal) in 1871 to Shaw, Savill & Company of London. In late 1871 she began twenty-five years of carrying passengers and freight in the New Zealand emigrant trade, each voyage going eastward around the world before returning to England. The fastest of her 21 passages to New Zealand took 100 days, the longest 143 days. She also made ports of call in Australia, California, and Chile. A baby was born on one of those trips en route to New Zealand, and was given the middle name Euterpe.

In 1897, after 21 round-the-world trips, Euterpe was sold, first to Hawaiian owners, then in 1899 to the Pacific Colonial Ship Company of San Francisco, California and from 1898 to 1901 made four voyages between the Pacific Northwest, Australia and Hawaii carrying primarily lumber, coal and sugar. She was registered in the United States on October 30, 1900

As Star of India: In 1901, Euterpe was sold to the Alaska Packers' Association of San Francisco, who re-rigged her as a barque (converting the square-rigged aftermost mast to fore-and-aft) and in 1902 began carrying fishermen, cannery workers, coal and canning supplies each spring from Oakland, California to Nushagak in the Bering Sea, returning each fall with holds full of canned salmon. In 1906, the Association changed her name to be consistent with the rest of their fleet, and she became Star of India. She was laid up in 1923 after 22 Alaskan voyages; by that time, steam ruled the seas.

In 1926, Star of India was sold to the Zoological Society of San Diego, to be the centerpiece of a planned museum and aquarium. The Great Depression and World War II caused that plan to be canceled; it wasn't until 1957 that her restoration began. Alan Villiers, a windjammer captain and author, came to San Diego on a lecture tour. Seeing Star decaying in the harbor, he publicized the situation and inspired a group of citizens to form the "Star of India Auxiliary" in 1959 to support the restoration of the ship. Progress was still slow, but in 1976, Star of India finally put to sea again. She currently houses exhibits for the Maritime Museum of San Diego, is kept fully seaworthy, and sails at least once a year. With the many other ships now in the Museum, she hosts frequent docent-led school tours (over 6,000 children a year) and also a Living History Program in which students "step back in time" and are immersed in history and teamwork activities during overnight visits.

The 1863 Star of India is the third oldest ship afloat in the United States, after the 1797 USS Constitution and 1854 USS Constellation, and is the oldest ship in the entire world that still sails regularly. Unlike many preserved or restored vessels, her hull, cabins and equipment are nearly 100% original.

The Star of India is currently home-ported at the San Diego Maritime Museum, just south of Lindbergh Field (San Diego International Airport), on the west side of Harbor Drive at approximately Ash Street - all within the Port of San Diego tidelands. This location is slightly west of downtown San Diego, California.

When she sails, the Star of India often remains within sight of the coast of San Diego County, and usually returns to her dock within a day. She is sailed by a skilled volunteer crew of Maritime Museum members, who train all year for the honor of taking her to sea.

Peregrine Falcon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus), also known simply as the Peregrine,[2] and historically as the "Duck Hawk" in North America,[3] is a cosmopolitan bird of prey in the family Falconidae. It is a large, crow-sized falcon, with a blue-gray back, barred white underparts, and a black head and "moustache". It can reach speeds over 320 km/h (200 mph) in a dive, making it the fastest animal in the world.[4] As is common with bird-eating raptors, the female is much bigger than the male.[5][6] Experts recognize 17–19 subspecies, which vary in appearance and range; there is disagreement over whether the distinctive Barbary Falcon is a subspecies or a distinct species.

The Peregrine's breeding range includes land regions from the Arctic tundra to the Tropics. It can be found nearly everywhere on Earth, except extreme polar regions, very high mountains, and most tropical rainforests; the only major ice-free landmass from which it is entirely absent is New Zealand. This makes it the world's most widespread bird of prey.[7] Both the English and scientific names of this species mean "wandering falcon", referring to the migratory habits of many northern populations.

While its diet consists almost exclusively of medium-sized birds, the Peregrine will occasionally hunt small mammals, small reptiles or even insects. It reaches sexual maturity at one year, and mates for life. It nests in a scrape, normally on cliff edges or, in recent times, on tall human-made structures.[8] The Peregrine Falcon became an endangered species in many areas due to the use of pesticides, especially DDT. Since the ban on DDT from the beginning of the 1970s onwards, the populations recovered, supported by large scale protection of nesting places and releases to the wild.[9]

* am not sure if i'm meant to note that this is my entry in the 64 challenge group

saturday night saw me at my third concert in one year of The Band Who Shall Not Be Named. our seats were off to the side and i was able to capture the near-exact moment that the delicate, rainbow colored, paper butterflies were shot out into the air to float down onto the roaring crowd, during "Love in Japan" it's a brilliant sight and everyone goes mental when they are released.

bonus: the Lead Singer Who Shall Not Be Named is doing his spastic, like-he's-just-been-shot, dance down the runway with his blue jacket flying up behind him.

and still, as i said prior to this:

shhhhhh. for they are my guilty pleasure.

hipsters (and loads of others!) will undoubtedly mock me for lack of "coolness". Coldplay is far too palatable for the mainstream audience to ever have an edge. and being cool and liking bands that are edgy is clearlythe way to go.

so, if you accuse me of liking Coldplay? i will deny it aloud vehemently. maybe.

or perhaps, after this weekend, i think i don't care that much anymore about being "cool". ;)

My Brother in Law has some of the baddest tattoos I've seen. Each tattoo has a personal meaning to his life. This is how he breaks it down:

Palm trees: If you look at the bottom of my veins they are connected to the tree, which means family ( strong roots in family). Also the palm tree is a part of Jesus as he returned to Jerusalem after he rises from the dead ( Palm Sunday) three people greeted him with Palm tree leaves. Trees continue to grow slowly as I too learn to grow as a person.

Tiki is Love and prosperity, one Tiki means strength ( Tiki Ku).

Tribal tats are family ,inner growth and warrior protecting my family.

Ali Bata writing on the tribal tattoo translates to Trust in God.

Japanese tat represents that you are not a follower, you go against the current, you never give up, and are always on the go which means you're goal oriented. The black and gray Koi fish represents fatherhood.

Shot it at Gangasagar Fair.Gangasagar Mela is the largest fair celebrated in West Bengal (INDIA). This fair is held where the Ganga and the Bay of Bengal form a nexus. Hence the name Gangasagar Mela. This festival is celebrated during January every year and is a major attraction for millions of pilgrims from all over India.

The pilgrims come for a holy dip on Makar Sankranti (last day of the Bengali Month) Negha -Mid January. They take dips in the Ganges and offer water to the Sun God. The dip, as they say, purifies their 'self' and according to them, 'punya' can be obtained thus. When they are done with the ritual obligations, they head towards the Kapilmuni Temple situated nearby, to worship the deity as a mark of respect......

There is a restaurant in San Diego, California called "Islands" with a beach and surfer theme in its decor, very casual but nice. They serve some really good food, high cholesterol fat-laden "American Food" - but I guess if you only indulge once in a while it won't kill you! This "Big Wave" hamburger was delish!!

INFORMATION ON THE HAMBURGER:

A hamburger (or simply burger) is a sandwich that consists of a cooked patty of ground meat and is generally served with various garnish or condiments like ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, onion, relish, pickles and cheese toppings, placed inside a sliced bun, often baked specially for this purpose, or pieces of bread or toast. The meat patty is beef, unless otherwise noted.

Hamburger also refers to the cooked patty of ground meat by itself. The patty alone is also known as a beefburger, or burger. Adding cheese makes it a cheeseburger. Hamburger is actually a distinct product from ground round and other types of ground meat. However, ground beef of any form is often commonly referred to as "hamburger." A recipe calling for 'hamburger' (the non-countable noun) would require ground beef or beef substitute- not a whole sandwich. The word hamburger comes from Hamburg steak, which originated in the German city of Hamburg. Contrary to what folk etymology might lead one to believe, there is no actual 'ham' in a hamburger.

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, the term "hamburger" comes from Hamburg steak, which was first recorded in English in 1884 but was probably used much earlier. A form of pounded beef called "Hamburg Steak" was common in Hamburg in the middle of the 19th century. The recipe was brought to North America by the large numbers of people immigrating from Germany at the time, many of whom passed through the port of Hamburg. There is indirect evidence for its use on an American menu in 1836. The form hamburger steak first appeared in a Washington state newspaper in 1889.

The first recipe close to the current idea of a hamburger, using ground beef mixed with onion and pepper dates from 1902. The Oxford English Dictionary of 1802, on the other hand, defines "Hamburg Steak" simply as cured beef. In a time without refrigerators, when it took weeks to travel from Europe to the USA, cured meat was a standard food for poor US immigrants, who often started from Hamburg (which was and is the biggest German seaport and one of the biggest in the world). In a tween deck, where cooking is nearly impossible, cutting tough cured beef into pieces and putting it between slices of bread may suggest itself.

A cheeseburger is a hamburger with cheese in addition to the meat. In 1924, Lionel Sternberger grilled the first cheeseburger in Pasadena, California. When Sternberger died in 1964, Time magazine noted in its February 7 issue that:

"...at the hungry age of 16, [Sternberger] experimentally dropped a slab of American cheese on a sizzling hamburger while helping out at his father's sandwich shop in Pasadena, thereby inventing the cheeseburger..."

Nebela penardiana se ha echado a dormir para siempre, dejando la esencia de su paso bajo el agua en su cascarón de pepitas de cuarzo vivo;

Fishermen’s Island) is an island of Lago Maggiore in northern Italy. As the most northerly of the three principal Borromean Islands it is also known as Isola Superiore and, with a population of about 50, it is the only one to be inhabited all year round. Unlike Isola Bella and Isola Madre, the island no longer belongs to the Borromeo.

The island is about 350 meters long by 100 meters wide. A narrow street running along its spine is joined by cobbled alleys to the promenade which encircles the island. The promenade is frequently flooded and the houses built against it are constructed to allow for this.

While the traditional occupation of fishing still exists—local restaurants providing a ready market for the fish—tourism has become central to the economic life of the island as its picturesque charms have made Isola dei Pescatori a popular destination: particularly for day-trippers but also for more extended visits. In addition to the hotel(s), restaurants and gift-shops there are boutiques selling craft products.

The church of San Vittore (Victor the Moor) retains traces of an ancient chapel which was probably constructed for the monks of Scozzòla (an abbey of San Donato di Sesto Calende founded by Liutardo, bishop of Pavia, in the mid ninth century [1]. The church was previously dedicated to S. Gangolfo (Gangulphus), whose veneration is linked with the Abbey of San Donato.

------

The Torre del Merino (Merino's Tower), also known as La torrona (the big tower) is located in the old market square in Santillana del Mar in Cantabria, Spain. It is a tower from the 16th century, with battlements. It is called like this because it was the place where the merino lived. The merino was a clerk who was in charge of the economical, financial and judicial administration of a territory.
