L'intérêt avec le martin, c'est qu'il a un territoire assez limité (1 km). Une fois repéré, il suffit de venir se poster discrètement, et attendre. L'attente peut être assez longue ( il m'est arrivé d'attendre 3 heures pour le voir 30 secondes). Mais, souvent il revient se poser sur un perchoir.
Ici, après ma première visite, j'ai installé ce perchoir, pour l'obliger à se poser à l'endroit qui convient le mieux (distance et exposition à la lumière). Puis, on attend ! Et bingo, il vient. Avec un peu de pratique, on peut mémoriser son chant et le deviner avant même qu'il se pose sur le perchoir. Interesting thing with the kingfisher is that it lives within a relatively limited area (1 km). Once spotted, just come post quietly and wait. The wait can be quite long (I happened to wait 3 hours to see it 30 seconds). But often it came back and landed on a perch.
Here, after my first visit, I installed this perch, to force it to land at the place that best suits (distance and exposure to light).

La espera puede ser muy larga (se me ocurrió que esperar 3 horas para ver 30 segundos). Pero a menudo regresó y aterrizó en una percha.
Aquí, después de mi primera visita, he instalado esta percha, para obligarlo a aterrizar en el lugar que mejor se adapte a distancia (y la exposición a la luz).

Aqui, depois de minha primeira visita, eu instalei esta vara, para forçá-lo a pousar no local que melhor se adequa (distância e exposição à luz).

Not the ideal time of day for waterfalls the sun to high in the sky but it is my only day off work this week - the gardening or................A last minute trek with Rob :-) no contest - but its a tough trek and it hurt :-) i will get here one day before the sun rises .Its my favourite of all the waterfalls and not really happy with any of the shots ive got .
This waterfall is the least visited for a reason its a hard climb down and even tougher to get back up :-( its not dangerous like Sgwd isaf clun gwyn it just steep and the steps are a killer .
one or two obstacles to climb through , not the best time to go waterfalls for photography but this is one of my fav's a tough trek that hurt.
This is the least visited waterfall not many actually are aware is there .

Been sick since Tuesday and I have been missing taking my morning walks and capturing sunrise moments. So I rummaged through my archive to look for one I captured a while back. This one should keep me on the hold until I can get back to my morning routine.

The porch.
Somogytúr, former home and atelier of the artist Kunffy Lajos (1869-1962). The building of the mansion (today a museum as well as the building of the atelier) was built by the Bosnyak family in the 18th century, and later became the property of dr. Lajos Kunffy. The notable artist studied abroad, settled in Paris and lived there for twenty years. His work was introduced in Munchen and Paris. He was presented the cross of the chevalier of ther Legion of Honor in the French capital. Kunffy and his family finally settled down at home (in Somogytúr, and Budapest) in 1913. The artist's atelier stands not far from the mansion in the park, designed by Kunffy himself.
He was a good friend of the artist, Rippl-Rónai.

A somogytúri Kunffy Lajos Emlékmúzeum két épülete: Kunffy egykori otthona, egy XVIII. századi kisnemesi kúria és egy fehéroszlopos, timpanonnal koronázott görög templomot idéző műterem. E kettőt kellemes park fogja össze.
Az 1000 holdas földbirtok is 40 éven át Kunffyé volt, benne 30 hold szőlő, 20 hold halastó, továbbá gyümölcsös, híresen jól termő almafákkal; ugyanakkor a marhatenyésztés is a birtok büszkesége volt. Az itt virágzó művészet és gazdálkodás egyedülálló volt Magyarországon. Kunffy kiállított festményei majdnem egy évszázadot átfogó ívben nyújtanak ma is eleven élményt a sok elmúlt gazdagságból.

In the photo tour in Cantabria the weather was definitely not on my side, especially in Noja where I had little chance to photograph because of the omnipresent rain.

I went for a wonderful midnight walk through the streets of my neighbourhood tonight. The air was warm (10C, 50F) and all those mountains of snow were melting and washing out parts of the roadways. So I put my camera down right at the edge of one of the mammoth puddles and captured the sparkle that occurs just when the soul of freshly dead snow emerges to make it's trip to whiter pastures.

La Aljafería (en árabe: قصر الجعفرية Qasr al-Ya`fariyya) es un palacio fortificado construido en Zaragoza en la segunda mitad del siglo XI por iniciativa de Al-Muqtadir como residencia de los reyes hudíes de Saraqusta. Este palacio de recreo (llamado entonces «Qasr al-Surur» o Palacio de la Alegría) refleja el esplendor alcanzado por el reino taifa en el periodo de su máximo apogeo político y cultural.
Su importancia radica en que es el único testimonio conservado de un gran edificio de la arquitectura islámica hispana de la época de las Taifas. De modo que, si se conserva un magnífico ejemplo del Califato de Córdoba, su Mezquita (s. X), y otro del canto de cisne de la cultura islámica en Al-Ándalus, del s. XIV, La Alhambra de Granada, se debe incluir en la tríada de la arquitectura hispano-musulmana La Aljafería de Zaragoza (s. XI) como muestra de las realizaciones del arte taifa, época intermedia de reinos independientes anterior a la llegada de los almorávides.
Las soluciones adoptadas en la ornamentación de la Aljafería, como la utilización de arcos mixtilíneos y de los salmeres en «S», la extensión del ataurique calado en grandes superficies o la esquematización y abstracción progresiva de las yeserías de carácter vegetal, influyeron decisivamente en el arte almorávide y almohade tanto del Magreb como de la Península Ibérica. Asimismo, la transición de la decoración hacia motivos más geométricos está en la base del arte nazarí.
Tras la reconquista de Zaragoza en 1118 por Alfonso I El Batallador pasó a ser residencia de los reyes cristianos de Aragón, con lo que la Aljafería se convirtió en el principal foco difusor del mudéjar aragonés. Fue utilizada como residencia regia por Pedro IV el Ceremonioso y posteriormente, en la planta principal, se llevó a cabo la reforma que convirtió estas estancias en palacio de los Reyes Católicos en 1492. En 1593 experimentó otra reforma que la convertiría en fortaleza militar, primero según diseños renacentistas (que hoy se pueden observar en su entorno, foso y jardines) y más tarde como acuartelamiento de regimientos militares. Sufrió reformas continuas, y grandes desperfectos, sobre todo con los Sitios de Zaragoza de la Guerra de la Independencia hasta que finalmente fue restaurada en la segunda mitad del siglo XX y actualmente acoge las Cortes de Aragón.
En su origen la construcción se hizo extramuros de la muralla romana, en el llano de la saría o lugar donde los musulmanes desarrollaban los alardes militares conocido como La Almozara. Con la expansión urbana a través de los años, el edificio ha quedado dentro de la ciudad. Se ha podido respetar a su alrededor un pequeño entorno ajardinado que le aísla incluso de la autopista que pasa a escasos metros de allí.

The Aljafería Palace (Arabic:قصر الجعفرية Qasr Aljafariya, Spanish: Palacio de la Aljafería) is a fortified medieval Islamic palace built during the second half of the 11th century in the Moorish taifa of Zaragoza of Al-Andalus, present day Zaragoza, Spain. It was the residence of the Banu Hud dynasty during the era of Abu Jaffar Al-Muqtadir after abolishing Banu Tujibi of Kindah dynasty. the palace reflects the splendor attained by the kingdom of the taifa of Zaragoza at the height of its grandeur. The palace currently contains the Cortes (regional parliament) of the autonomous community of Aragon.
The structure holds unique importance in that it is the only conserved testimony of a large building of Spanish Islamic architecture of the era of the Taifas (independent kingdoms).
After the capture of Zaragoza in 1118 by Alfonso I of Aragon, the Aljaferia became the residence of the Christian kings of the Kingdom of Aragon and as such was converted into the focal point for spread of the Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon. It was the birthplace of Saint Isabel of Portugal in the year 1271. It was used as the royal residence by Peter IV of Aragon and subsequently, on the principal building site, a renovation was carried out that converted these chambers into the palace of the Catholic Monarchs in 1492. In 1593, the structure experienced another renovation that converted it into a military base, first according to Renaissance designs (which today can be observed in its moat and gardens) and later as military quarters. The building suffered continuous alterations and considerable imperfections, above all with the Siege of Zaragoza during the Peninsular War until it was finally restored in the second half of the 20th century and currently it houses the Cortes or autonomous community legislative assembly of Aragon.
In the original construction, extra ramparts were made in the open field surrounding the Aljaferia. With urban expansion over the years, the building has remained inside of the city. Yet the city of Zaragoza has not been able to honor the landscaped surroundings of the Aljaferia. A freeway passes only a few meters away.

my camera charger was lost 2 weeks ago ): and still, i havent got myself a new charger, so...im counted as camera-less now. i miss shooting with my cameraaaaa! friend's birthday party, dinner with family etc, i really wish i have my camera with me so that i can capture the beauty of those happy moments! perhaps i'll ask my friend to help me to buy a new charger ): it costs RM150. eew.
have started our weekly motto again!!! and too bad, i cannot do for this Sunday's topic, which was chosen by me - 'dream'. i'll catch up soon, i promise :) you have no idea how much i miss editing with photoshop - the manipulations. im pretty sure my photoshop skill is dying. :O
btw, my Flickr Pro Account is going to expire on 11 of May. 2 more days. i can still remember how excited and happy i was when i first received the surprise by Riz. not much people liked my photos that time, she was the one who encouraged me a lot! and that was the first time i feel the love and support from people you dont even know in real, by flickr! i loveeeee flickr, really! :) but listen, i dont think i need another flickr pro account, as you can see, i dont upload a lot of photos in a month, so a normal account is enough for me, im sure! :)

Introduction
The Wall gets its name from the characteristic behaviour of resting with wings two-thirds open on any bare surface, including bare ground and, of course, walls! Many people will have come across this butterfly on footpaths, especially in coastal areas, where the butterfly flies up when disturbed, before setting again a few metres ahead.
The basking behaviour of this butterfly allows it to benefit from the full warmth of the sun whose rays shine directly on the butterfly, but also get reflected back onto the butterfly from whichever surface it is resting on. This habit allows the butterfly to raise its body temperature sufficiently high for it to fly. In particularly hot weather, however, such basking is avoided and the butterfly may even retreat to a suitably-shaded spot to avoid overheating.
This species was once found throughout England, Wales, Ireland and parts of Scotland. Today, however, is a very different picture, with this species suffering severe declines over the last several decades. It is now confined to primarily-coastal regions and has been lost from many sites in central, eastern and south-east England. In Scotland it is confined to coastal areas in the south-west of the country. It is also found on the Isle of Man and Channel Islands. This butterfly is found in relatively small colonies that are self-contained although some individuals will wander, allowing the species to quickly colonise suitable nearby sites.
Taxonomy Notes
Ball (1914) uses the name f. filipluma to describe specimens of the summer generation, differentiated by their scale formation.
Verity (1911a) uses the name ssp. caledonia to describe the race from Scotland which, he says, differ in the width and intensity of the black markings and very broad marginal band. The base of the hindwing being entirely blackened.

This species was first defined in Linnaeus (1767) as shown here (type locality: Austria and Denmark).
Conservation Status
There has been a severe and worrying decline of inland populations, with most remaining populations now being found in coastal areas. This species is therefore a priority for conservation efforts.
Habitat
This species is now found primarily in coastal areas, especially unimproved grassland, wasteland, cliff edges and hedgerows.
The first generation of adults emerge in early May, peaking at the end of May and early June, or a little later in the north of England and Scotland. They give rise to a second brood that emerges at the end of July, or mid-August further north. There are 2 generations each year and, on occasion, a small 3rd generation may appear in October.
Imago
The male of this species is territorial and will inhabit a particular area, such as a path, hedgerow or roadside verge, waiting for a passing female. Males will typically perch in a favoured position but will, in sunny and warm conditions, adopt a strategy of patrolling in order to find a mate. All passing insects are investigated and rival males will fly high into the air before coming back to the ground a few seconds later.
The female is much more sedentary and the less-conspicuous of the two sexes. After a brief courtship a pair will mate before disappearing into surrounding vegetation. Both sexes are avid nectar feeders and will feed from any available flower.
Adults feed primarily on Daisy (Bellis perennis), Fleabane (Pulicaria dysenterica), Hawkweeds (Hieracium/Hypochoeris), Knapweeds (Centaurea spp.), Marjoram (Origanum vulgare), Ragged Robin (Lychnis flos-cuculi), Ragwort (Senecio jacobaea), Thistles (Cirsium spp. and Carduus spp.), Water Mint (Mentha aquatica) and Yarrow (Achillea millefolium).
Ovum
The spherical eggs are laid singly, or occasionally in twos and threes, in various positions, including the leaves of the foodplant, exposed roots and nearby vegetation. Eggs are pale green when first laid, becoming more translucent as the larva develops within. Sites for egg-laying are typically sheltered and warm compared to their surroundings, and include grass clumps, rabbit scrapes and hoof prints from cattle. This stage lasts around 10 days.
Larva
After emerging, the young larva typically eats its eggshell before feeding on the leaves of the foodplant. Larvae become more mobile as they mature and will move from plant to plant as needed. Larvae typically feed at night, but occasionally feed during the day. This stage lasts around 4 weeks for those larvae that do not overwinter, and there are 3 moults in total.
The primary larval foodplants are Bents (various) (Agrostis spp.), Cock's-foot (Dactylis glomerata), False Brome (Brachypodium sylvaticum), Tor-grass (Brachypodium pinnatum), Wavy Hair-grass (Deschampsia flexuosa) and Yorkshire-fog (Holcus lanatus).
Pupa
The green pupa is formed head down, attached by the cremaster to the foodplant or nearby vegetation and is extremely well camouflaged. This stage lasts around 2 weeks.
Let's face it. Life is actually like that sometimes. There are times when you really want - you really need - someone to walk with you, and there's no one there. Either they won't or they can't. Sometimes people who care about us would like to walk with us through what we're going through, but they just can't; they don't understand, they don't know how to help, they're too busy with their own issues, or they're just not there for any one of a hundred reasons. Maybe as you're listening today, you're just tired of walking alone.
What I'm about to say may sound too good to be true, but I wouldn't offer you false hope. You don't ever have to walk alone again. The reason that is not just a hollow hope is because it doesn't depend on the love of some human who may be there or may not be. It depends on the love of the God who made you - who is always there.
Listen to the ironclad promise of Jesus Christ in Hebrews 13:5. It's our word for today from the Word of God. "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." He says never. He's offering you a "never leave you" love. Some of Jesus' last words on earth to those who belong to Him are these: "Surely I am with you always" (Matthew 28:20). After listing every conceivable force on earth, or in heaven, or in hell that might take His love away, Romans 8:39says: "Nothing in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
But He loves you so much He wasn't willing to lose you, so He sent Jesus. That's His one and only Son, and He sent Him to die for the sin that separates you from Him. So He could forgive you, so you could live in His love, so you could be in heaven with Him forever. And now that love is working inside your heart, drawing you His direction. This can't be a one-way love. You have to open up to what He died to give you, by telling Him that you're placing the rest of your life in His hands; hands that bear eternal evidence of His love for you. You can tell when you see the print of the nails there.

So this started as a joke shot that was way over-exposed for me to consider using originally. Once I started playing with color trying to save it, I ended up really liking it.
The sun was perfectly inline and almost setting down the stream. One of the members joked about them all getting in the water for the last photo and everyone called his bluff. You shouldn't be doing that in November in Ohio.

La Catedral de Teruel tiene su origen en la iglesia de Santa María de Mediavilla, que comenzó a edificarse en estilo románico en 1171 y se concluyó con la erección de la torre mudéjar en 1257. En la segunda mitad del siglo XIII, el alarife morisco Juzaff, reestructura la antigua obra románica y dota al edificio de tres naves mudéjares de mampostería y ladrillo, que mejoran y elevan la estructura románica del siglo XII.
En el mismo estilo gótico-mudéjar, ya en el siglo XIV se sustituyeron los ábsides románicos por otros, como se puede apreciar en la cabecera de la capilla mayor. Se redujo con ello a la mitad el número de soportes, lo que dio una mayor luminosidad y espaciosidad a las naves de arcos apuntados. También los muros fueron recrecidos. En 1423, ya con el aspecto mudéjar con que, en lo fundamental, conocemos el templo actualmente, el pontífice aragonés Benedicto XIII, el llamado «Papa Luna» la elevó al rango de Colegiata. Ya en estilo plateresco-mudéjar, fue construido en 1538 el cimborrio de la nave central, obra de Martín de Montalbán. Fue edificado de planta octogonal sobre trompas y presenta en su exterior ventanas ajimezadas con decoraciones platerescas. Más tarde, en 1587, con la creación de la diócesis de Teruel, fue promovida a Catedral y consagrada como tal. Por último en 1909 se aborda la edificación de la fachada en estilo neomudéjar, obra de Pablo Monguió.
Last weekend, I was with fellow flickr friends Danny and Michael on a waterfall hunt (liquid gold, as Danny aptly put it!). Day two, before going to the series of falls, the wild azalea fragrance drew us, and while Danny was shooting the Azaleas, I looked down. Look, what I find :) These beaded dew drops on the tips of teenie weenie wild strawberry leaves drew my attention :)
There was my first droplet of liquid gold!

One of the most popular of Yosemite's high country destinations has to be Cathedral Lakes. Easy access, beautiful scenery and tempting peaks make this a popular spot for backpackers, day hikers and climbers. The Lower Cathedral Lake is located at an elevation of 9288' and an easy 3.5 miles from the trailhead located along Tioga Road. The Upper Lake is at an elevation of 9585' and about a half mile past the Lower Lake.

The hike is a fairly easy uphill gradient for a few miles. Getting acclimated to the thin atmosphere was pretty difficult, but I felt I had to do a high-elevation hike in preparation for hiking Half Dome. Another difficult task was crossing a stream blocked by trees and large boulders. I ended up jumping to a small island in the stream and tip-toeing across a fallen tree to get to the Cathedral Lakes' side of the stream.
The final challenge was actually finding the lakes, as there is a lot of exposed rock, making trails difficult to find and follow. Eventually I did make it to the lake, and I was tempted to stay for a sunset, but didn't want to risk disorientation of hiking downhill over unambiguous terrain.

This is Fluorite from Dal'negorsk (Дальнегорск), Russia at the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show.

A famous mining region centered on the city of Dalnegorsk in eastern Russia, 300 km northeast of Vladivostok. The name "Tetyukhe" or "Tetjuche" (meaning "valley of the wild pigs") is the old Chinese name for Dalnegorsk and can be encountered on a few old mineral labels.
The Verkhnee deposit was first developed in 1912. Boron mineralization was prospected in 1945.
The region comprises 9 different deposits.

Shot this morning in the lake sammamish state park, south of Lake Sammamish. i arrived there around 6:45 am. stayed about two hours observing the birds. more animals compared to marymoor park, but nature here is far less interesting in my opinion. fog over the water wasn't that big either, but fine enough to have good bird shots. as yesterday morning, i only carried two lenses. the 70-200 f4 L and my big 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L. Since birds were the main goal this morning, i only used the latter.
it's actually the first time i'm concentrating at catching birds in flight. i understand what it feels now when i succeed at doing so. it's immensely satisfactory.

La mesquita blava o del sultà Ahmed (en turc Sultanahmet Camii), a Istanbul, Turquia, és una obra de Sedefhar Mehmet Ağa, un deixeble de l'arquitecte Mimar Sinan. Està situada enfront d'església de Santa Sofia separades ambdues per un bell espai enjardinat, i és l'única a Istanbul que posseïx 6 minarets.
La mesquita va ser construïda durant el regnat del catorzè sultà otomà, Ahmet I, entre 1609 i 1616, en temps de decadència otomana. És la mesquita més gran i fastuosa d'Istanbul. La mesquita va ser construïda juntament amb una madrassa, escola alcorànica, un asil, un centre comercial d'artesania, un kervansaray, allotjament per a camells, una font i un külliye, complex soci-religiós.

Another example of the great power of lightning in the mountains in Colorado. This storm was parked over Gunnison, CO on the night of September 12th. I was traveling from Creede, CO back to Gunnison, when near the Powderhorn Guest Ranches, I saw the lightning lighting up the dark night sky. Surprisingly, this was taken around 8:10pm. Surprisingly dark for that night, oh well the days are definitely getting shorted as fall approaches.
The Holy Monastery of Simonos Petra, or more simply Simonopetra, is without doubt the most daring construction on the Holy Mountain. It stands proudly at a height of 330 metres on the end of a rocky mountain range.
The Monastery was founded by the Blessed Simon the Myrrhobletes around 1257, as a result of a vision. The whole of the building work, the Life of the Saint assures us, was accomplished as the result of divine intervention. In 1363 the Monastery was renovated with generous donations from a Serb despot, John Uglesha, who is regarded as the Monastery's second founder. In the Third Typikon, Simonopetra occupies 23rd place among the then monasteries of Athos; today it holds thirteenth place in the hierarchy.
Unfortunately, among the dates which are milestones in the history of the Monastery are those inauspicious days when it was afflicted with the scourge of fire. In 1570 the Monastery, together with its valuable archive, was destroyed by a great conflagration. This resulted in the loss of documents of inestimable historical value. It also explains why we know so little about the Monastery in the Byzantine period.
The good relations which developed between Simonopetra and the Princes of Wallachia in the period of Turkish rule made possible its recovery. However, there was another fire in 1622, causing further damage. Simonopetra, which had been a coenobium, became idiorrythmic in the 17th century. Although never looted by pirates, the intolerable taxes of the Turks drove the Monastery to decline and abandonment. By the heroic efforts of the priest-monk Ioasaph of Mytilene, Asimopetra (as Simonopetra was called in the period of Turkish occupation) began to function again in the late 18th century. The 19th century saw the building of the multi-storeyed building on the south side. At the end of the same century, in 1891, yet another disastrous fire swept away, yet again, the older buildings and the Monastery's treasures.
In the present century, Simonopetra has experienced a period of recovery and of increasing prestige in the Orthodox world - particularly after the liberation of the Holy Mountain from the Turks and under the enlightened ladership of the Abbots Neophytos, Ioannikios, and Ieronymos. In the 1950s, however, a period of decline set in and in 1963, when Athos celebrated a millennium of life, the prospects for the future were gloomy. But the 1970s were a time when there was a gradual revival of Athonite monasticism. In 1973 a new 20-member brotherhood from the Meteora established itself at the Monastery. The Monastery of Simonos Petra once had a large number of metochia with fertile farm land. The oldest of these would appear to be Petriotiko in Sithonia. Today, best known are St Charalampus in Thessaloniki, the Ascension in Athens, the Nunnery of the Annunciation at Ormylia in Chalcidice, and three others in France. It is also worth mentioning the metochi of Michael Voda in Bucharest, dedicated to the Monastery in 1566 and confiscated by the Romanian Government in 1863.
Simonopetra, because of the restricted space of its site, is not one of those monasteries where we can see autonomous, clearly distinguished buildings. The katholikon is dedicated to the Nativity of Christ and in its original form was built around 1600, while the form it takes today took shape after the fire of 1891. The Monastery has four chapels within its precinct and eight outside.
The Monastery's archive contains a host of documents in Greek, Turkish, and Romanian, together with inscriptions, and musical and other manuscripts, to which must be added its printed books. However, it must be pointed out that almost the whole of the archival material is post-Byzantine.
The sacristy contains a treasury of works of art, consisting of icons, vestments, silverware, antimensia, seals, and engravings. However, the most important treasure of Simonopetra is the left hand of St Mary Magdalene - she is regarded as 'co-founder' of the Monastery - which has remained whole for two thousand years. The Monastery today has a community of 50 well-educated and active monks.

Well, it's been about 3 weeks since we've returned from our 4th annual vacation to Alaska - it's so hard to catch up upon returning back to the real world. But now that my photos have been gone through (at least once), I'm ready to present some of them.
This year, we had a shortened Alaska vacation (15 days) and I have to admit, I'm a bit saddened by that decision. I thought I would feel OK with the brief time allocated, but I'm not. Next year, it will have to be an extended trip again.
We first visited Denali NP, where we were greeted by a mixture of beautiful clear sunny days and rainy dreary ones. This shot was one of those, though as you can see the sun was trying to emerge.
We spent some time on the outskirts of the park roaming around and decided to try to shoot the whitewater rafters as they meandered down the Nenana River. While waiting, I turned to see the path of the river and found myself admiring this view. I think it has the perfect blend of rushing waters, colorful river rocks, green trees lining the river shore, and dramatic skies. The sound of the babbling waters and the feel of the cool wind blowing in our faces completed the sensory experience.
Thought it was a wonderful shot to prelude the collection to come. Please stop by routinely so that we may share with you our travel adventures.
