Goa cops help Jharkhand nab wanted criminal. April 6.20.13

MARGAO: Margao town police nabbed a Jharkhand native who is wanted in multiple criminal cases including murder.

The nabbing of the accused, Ravi Bhutnago Gope, believed to hail from Saki, Jharkhand, could be a major breakthrough for the Jharkhand police, who had intimated superintendent of police (South) Shekhar Prabhudesai about the accused's presence in his jurisdiction.

Margao PI Sudesh Naik said that Prabhudesai recently received an official communication from the superintendent of police at Simdega district in Jharkhand stating that they had received information that local criminal, Gope, was wanted in several cases and that in a police station in the village of Lasia, Simdega, there were as many as nine FIRs registered against him.

In Jharkhand, Gope has been wanted in several serious cases including murder, attempt to murder, rioting, dacoity and various offenses including Sections 302, 307 and 395 of IPC have been registered against Gope.

Gope is believed to be part of a gang that has been involved in major crimes in Jharkhand and neighbouring states and sources added that he was involved in a gang war that saw the death of a gang leader in Patna, Bihar in the past.

A police team from Simdega left for Goa on Saturday. "They will arrest Gope and take him back with them. The Margao police nabbed him under Section 41 of IPC," said police.

"All his case details had been faxed to us and we have got several arrest warrants for him . As soon as we got the news, a team was comprised and we spent the whole of yesterday trying to find leads that could tell us about the whereabouts of the accused," said Naik.

A team led by Margao ASI K R Kotarkar received information that the accused had been admitted to a hospital in Cansaulim and that he was staying in Majorda with his girlfriend at a friend's house.

"We kept a guard outside the hospital and once he was discharged, we arrested him," added Naik.

He further stated that Gope's girlfriend had been sent to Apna Ghar, Merces. When asked, he clarified that the girl was a major and not a minor.

This PHC Centre was demolished in 2015 to built new hospital on its place. It was not ready as on 15.03.2020
