OCD alert for this one(!): other than the lettering being much too close to the ceiling, I think this looks pretty nice overall. I especially like the contrasting dark blue "drop off" decal/sign (looks like a decal stuck to the window anyway), and the signs hanging over the windows are pretty cool as well. The pharmacy in this store is located in the front right corner, along the front side wall -- looking a lot like a reskinned millennium décor pharmacy (which it is)!

A gaper (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɣaːpər]) is a stone or wooden figurehead, often depicting a Moor, Muslim, or North African. The figurehead first appeared in the late 16th century as a hangout sign used outside the storefronts of drug stores in the Netherlands. The literal translation of "gaper" would be yawner; the figurehead is always displayed with an open mouth, sometimes with a pill resting on his tongue.
The gapers gaping tongue could represent the intake of medicine and grimace represents the bitter taste of the medicine. The gaper takes on various appearances that are symbolic of the origin for the pharmacist’s practice or medicinal ingredients.

Here's the pharmacy drive-thru, in yet another view from May 6, 2016. This was on the west side of the building, with the signage seen in this view facing Goodman Rd.

In contrast to the not so great shopping cart handle photo, this was perhaps one of the better pics I got of the Muscle Shoals Publix pharmacy.

These are the first test shots through the viewfinder of a Kodak Duaflex. I had been interested in this technique for several months but had been too busy to try it out. So I finally ordered one from eBay recently (not that I am any less busy). The camera arrived after I had departed for my recent road trip, so I am testing it out by re-photographing images from the trip on my laptop screen. Although this was not what I had in mind when I bought the camera, I am intrigued by the possibilties...
Those who have not seen this technique before should check out the lively Through the Viewfinder group.
This is the CVS/pharmacy located at 102 Village Lane in Hazard, KY. It was built in late 2013/early 2014, and opened in the summer of 2014 as a second CVS location for Hazard and the surrounding area. Prior to CVS’ building being here, a small local liquor store known as Village Spirit Liquors was located here from sometime in the ‘80s until it closed in early 2013.

Another interesting reuse of a vacated drugstore location by family-owned retailer Value Drugs. This one is quite obviously a former Eckerd on Long Island.
In 1998, Eckerd (owned by JCPenney) had swallowed the largest pharmacy on Long Island, Genovese Drug Stores. Genovese was a family-owned and run pharmacy chain with 141 stores in NY/NJ/CT. JCPenney continued to run the stores as Genovese for 5 years, re-bannering them as Eckerd in 2003.
This building was a former supermarket which was taken over when JCPenney relocated the existing Genovese store from a few blocks away around 2002. The standard Eckerd facade was added to the existing building and the name changed to Eckerd soon after.
The Eckerd store was converted to Rite-Aid in 2007 when Rite Aid purchased the Eckerd and Brooks chains from the Jean Coutu Group, and it closed soon after in 2009. Value Drugs opened here in 2009 and runs an extremely successful store.
These are windows and designs in the Pharmacy Department Corridors. It is and interesting glass design.

The old yellow door still sticks out like a sore thumb in this October 8, 2016 view of the repainted pharmacy counter at the Horn Lake Walmart Neighborhood Market. The now color-clashing, overhead sign has gone now, with a more complimentary banner installed in it's place.

Well, I was going to go around the store in order, but since my week of posting these Walmart Bartlett grand reopening photos is drawing to a close, thought I better hit a few of the non-grocery store areas as well. Here, we see an interesting mix of both old and new style pick up and consultation signs. And just like in the remodeled Senatobia store, they have painted the overhead wall section over the pharmacy itself blue, which to me adds a nice touch of color for the area.

Many didn't like when Walmart, at the beginning of its Project Impact rollout, moved the pharmacy from the front entrance to some island off in the middle of the store. Well, like it or not, that's how it's situated in this Super Target, too, and from the beginning, no less! This is looking from the back aisle toward the café area in the front, with grocery to the immediate left of the pharmacy.

This time of day (or maybe it was just the day itself, 5-31 was a Sunday), the Target Pharmacy here was closed. I wonder how much longer it will be a Target Pharmacy.

Remodel, Week 16
As promised yesterday, here’s the continuation of my latest Sam’s remodel update. (And no, my classes are – unfortunately :P – not cancelled on this Monday; I simply write my descriptions the night before I post my pictures, haha!) We left off looking at the temporary pharmacy up by the checkouts; now we’re finally taking a look at what’s going on with the existing pharmacy in the meantime. As you can see – no surprise here! – it’s been taken behind a remodel wall. I had heard that the pharmacy was to be expanded into the neighboring tobacco area (which you can just barely catch a glimpse of on the left of this shot), but the shape of the wall seems to indicate otherwise, as it doesn’t really extend all that much further into that cage. For what it’s worth, though, the wall does seem to jut out a little bit more in the front than the old pharmacy counter did.
The inset pic shows you what the front view of the remodel wall looks like, as well as the ever-present (if ever-moving!) “Pardon our dust” banner. Underneath that and plastered in many other places along the wall were yellow sheets of paper frantically doing their best to reassure customers that the small pharmacy up near the checkouts is only a temporary relocation!
I would’ve uploaded the inset as a full-size photo, had l_dawg2000 not already posted the exact same shot :P I got mine after his though, so I pretty much knew I was duplicating it! I just wanted to be sure and show, as an update to his view, that the aisles had indeed been moved away from the wall to allow for the flow and passage of customers. You can also see that gap in my full pic here, too.

Here's a closer look at that pharmacy gable. I was hoping to see a view inside the store perhaps, but they had plywood blocking the entrance... either this was there simply because they had suspended work for the night, or they're solely using the grocery entrance to get in and out. I didn't think to check that gable for a view inside (or lack thereof).

A formerly secret installation of the military pharmacy (AApot). Operated by the San log Bat 81, a special military unit that mainly manufactures vital medicines for the swiss emergency service. The swiss federation itself has here once produced the Tamiflu vaccine by the army. It is no longer in use. An ultrapure water facility is fed directly from a mountain stream. But the production facilities on the upper floor have been dismantled and were sold to Shanghai. This is an access tunnel from south to the part that exploded in 1947. Switzerland, Oct 1, 2015.
Getting lost in Sion's labyrinthine old town I saw a strange sign, Uffem Bort, 16th-century frescoes. The door was ajar so in I went, to discover a narrow room decorated with biblical scenes. Back home I did some research to find that it was a pharmacy belonging to a Jean Uffem Bort, and that the frescoes had been covered over with plaster for 400 years. The date 1547 is above the door. Click on the link for a 1975 bulletin with ground plan and photos before restoration.

Looks as if I might of caught one of the managers behind the pharmacy counter with a deposit bag, or some other object of importance. No matter, I just made him into a ghost in this photo anyway!

WEEK 19 – Barnes Crossing Kroger, Pre-Remodel (IV)
Here’s a shot of the front of the pharmacy box. When I say “box,” I really mean it for this store; as you can see, it is quite closed in! Later pharmacies would be more open in nature. Also be sure to check out the “Rx” sign seen in the previous photo – I’m not used to seeing those not up against the same green background as the true pharmacy signage!
If you zoom in to the “drop off” window, you’ll see one what appears to be one of the pharmacists giving me the stink eye. I’m not sure if that was legitimately directed towards me or if I simply took this shot at an awkward moment, but just to be sure, I didn’t take any more interior photos on the 2016 visit on which I got this shot :P And fittingly, this is now serving as our final interior shot of this photoset, too.
