"The same family has run The Royal Pharmacy since the mid 30s. 1935, to be exact. The space has actually been a pharmacy for the past hundred years.
When you walk through the door, it is like taking a step back in time. Wood floors. High tin-stamped ceilings. Friendly, personable staff. Nothing fancy, no unnecessary frills, just what you are looking for. Anything you could need in a pinch. Nail clippers, toothpaste, toilet paper, gum, as well as medication. Well, they did have dvds, but this lent a great service; there aren't any video rental stores that I'm aware of in the quarter.
One great thing about this family-run pharmacy: they deliver.

Photo of CVS Pharmacy and 99 Cents Only Store which is located to the right of the former SAFEWAY Supermarekt. Former SAFEWAY SUPERMARKET, converted to VONS in 1988 when VONS took over SAFEWAY SUPERMARKETS. VONS Supermarkets eventually closed this store and it became a Pick N Save, which the parent company later changed its Big Lots. This Big Lots location is now closed as indicated by the sign in the window. The lease for this former Big Lots has expired, and the store will be converting back to a supermarket. Whole Food Supermarket is taking over the Big Lots site as well as taking over the CVS Pharmacy next Store (former Savon Drug Store). The CVS is preparing to move and take over another location on the property, a former Kinney Shoe Store, that was converted by its parent company to a Foot Locker, which later closed. Here's the view up toward the old pharmacy now, compare this to one week prior (also photo-linked below): flic.kr/p/fJo4E3. They were still in the process of putting the tarps up to shield customers and product from the inevitable obliteration that's to come. Part of the blue and orange signage appears to have gotten left behind. Maybe someone will "accidentally" smash it! Note also that the outer drywall has already come off the little temporary bump-out wall. And now there's a temporary wall around the temporary wall!
This is pretty much what I thought I would see going on here, except I was very surprised to see the old frozen foods section completely stocked with new shelving already! The aisle spacing is much tighter here in this section, leading one to believe it's a temporary arrangement due to close quarters created by all the demolition protection walls and plastic. So long, millennium decor!

In the box were white folded paper with some powder. I think against diarrhea.

Though now vacant, this building was constructed in 1926 as the Oakland Pharmacy. It's been many things through the last century, but most people in Kalamazoo know it as "Boogie Records," the place to be and buy records from 1972-1995.

My hubby wanted to know why I shot this pic...well, in the day of CVS, Walgreens, etc., it's nice to see an old-style pharmacy. Plus, I kind of liked the utilitarian design of the building and the non-nonsense lettering.
