- Their flight often begins in the Kalahari and Karoo, triggered by seasonal rains, and ends near the Mozambique coast, where many perish over the ocean.Though often called a migration, it’s technically a one-way dispersal—they don’t return. Instead, they lay eggs along the way, ensuring the next generation continues the journey.

Long after the last humans have perished, and with them the supply of dairy, and eventually the stores of cheese, one little mouse skitters above ground and onto a relic of the planet's former rulers. He takes one last glimpse at the final known source of cheese, high above the planet, so close yet so far.

"In sacred memory of the six million Jewish heroes and martyrs who perished at the hands of the Nazis."
The 20th Century is the century of abject horror. Evil committed on an industrial scale. Political ideology, rather than religious wars precipitated it, whether it be the millions slaughtered under Stalin or Mao, or the singularly shocking genocide of European Jews by the Nazis. You can understand why I hate politics so much. Humanity deserves better and whenever political views divide us this is a cancer eating away at our souls.
The memorial we see here in the Melbourne General Cemetery is dedicated to the six million Jewish people who perished between 1941 and 1945 in what is now called The Holocaust or Shoah. Literally, a "holocaust" is a sacrificial offering completely burned upon an altar. There is no need here to retell exactly how these victims of Shoah died, but it is also true their bodies were consumed in ovens specifically made for the task.
It is all too easy today to dismiss this as madness and evil. Hitler and his cronies were monsters. But the fact is that they were also human beings. The root of that evil lies within the heart of every person. Until we recognise that fact, history will repeat itself. The shadow side of the human soul is an abyss that cannot be plumbed. Only a willingness to live humbly before God and seek forgiveness for our own misdeeds towards our fellow human beings can redeem us from falling into actions that break the sacred cord that ties us all together.
This moving memorial, stands as a witness and a signal warning to every one of us.
There's another Hebrew inscription here too:
"Here are buried bones, ashes & soap
Made from the human remains of our martyred brethren slain in Europe by the Nazis
May their memory live forever
1939 - 1945"

My wife and I paid tribute to the 40 individuals that perished on United Flight 93 during our visit this afternoon to the Flight 93 Memorial. This is the Tower of Voices. Inside this structure are 40 wind chimes, representing the 40 that died. When the wind exceeds 15 MPH the chimes mimic voices. I photographed the inside of the structure and while doing so the wind blew hard enough to effect the chimes. It brought chills to the back of my neck and a few tears swelled up in my eyes as well.
A mallard duck keeping a very close eye on her one remaining duckling. Together with the rest of her brood it fell down a sheer drop of around 20 feet into a concrete culvert. Most perished, but this one was OK so ladders were fetched and it was rescued then released onto the pond. It soon started calling and within seconds the mother arrived. Last seen two days later enjoying a caviar banquet as the rudd in the pond spawned.
The pond - and culvert - were in the grounds of our holiday accommodation in Newnham, Gloucestershire.

It's my belief that without something in our life we think is beautiful we perish.
I go through a lot of decision often when I post ... will I be the only one to like this shot, is it really good enough to post, etc., etc. And sometimes I take one down within a few minutes of it being posted. This is one of those shots. Last rays of sun in the Tetons and Amy and I saw this bear meandering off into the backlit woods. I absolutely love the shot for the spirit it conveys though I know it is not a good technical shot.
Sorry I got to wordy here! Have a great day!
THANKS for your kind visits,

After days of falling snow and freezing conditions, I watched this Barn Owl hunting on a cold crisp and dull January afternoon in West Yorkshire. The snow and ice was beginning to melt on this south facing field. Hopefully this beautiful Owl will survive the cruel winter weather... many Barn Owls perish in these freezing conditions and starvation forces them out to hunt in broad daylight.
Barn Owl Notes and Information:
What did they call the Barn Owl before barns were first built?
Ghost Owl, Hobgoblin Owl, Demon Owl, Death Owl, Hissing Owl, Church Owl? to mention a few! …Barn Owls were around long before the first farmers built barns to keep their animals or crops dry! They lived in rock crevices and hollow trees, and sometimes still do. But about 5,500 years ago, as soon as people began to build haystacks and animal shelters, Barn Owls moved in.
Its latin name—Tyto alba—simply means 'White Owl. ... Perhaps because of their white, ghost-like, appearance or their preference to hunt in open areas that can include cemeteries, barn owls have been associated with bad omens and even death!
Many thanks for visiting my Flickr pages ...Your visits, interest, comments and kindness to 'fave' my photos is very much appreciated, Steve.
The Barn Owl is a species of open country, favouring lowland habitats such as farmland and young plantation woodland. Populations have recovered somewhat from an earlier period of decline and have benefited from the erection of nest boxes and appropriate habitat management. Barn Owl is listed on Schedule One of the Wildlife & Countryside Act and so receives additional protection during the breeding season; a Schedule One licence is required to visit the nest of this species.
Calls and identification Calls
The Barn Owl is not a particularly vocal species, the drawn out screech of the male only likely to be heard during the early stages of the breeding season.
Barn Owl chicks make a hissing call, sometimes referred to as ‘snoring’, when in the nest. This is used as a begging call and may be heard early in the evening when the chicks are waiting for one of their parents to make a feeding visit. The extent to which a chick calls provides an indication to its siblings of the individual’s willingness to compete for the next food item to be delivered.
Some individuals can look particularly ‘washed out’, while others are darker and have more strongly patterned plumage. Female Barn Owls are typically darker in their colouration than males and, additionally, have marked speckling on their flanks and underwing, which is rare in males. The dark-breasted race guttata, which occurs on the continent, may sometimes appear in Britain; such individuals are much darker in their appearance than our resident birds. In flight, adult Barn Owls may be confused with Short-eared Owl, a species alongside which they may hunt, though the latter species has more strongly patterned plumage and piercing yellow eyes.
Ecology and Conservation
Ecology
Distributed widely across Britain and Ireland, the Barn Owl is limited by winter weather conditions and so is absent from upland areas and the most northerly regions. The species is most familiar as an owl of lowland farmland – both pastoral and arable – with peak densities occurring in East Anglia, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. Within Ireland the core breeding range is now centred on the south-west of the country. Favoured habitats contain areas of rough grassland and woodland edge, within which populations of Field Vole (the favoured prey) are sufficiently abundant. These habitats include the early successional stages of commercial plantation forest. In some areas, such as the arable landscapes of the Fens, secondary prey species like Wood Mouse become more important in the diet. The availability of small mammal prey shapes breeding behaviour; breeding may be delayed or not take place at all in those years when small mammal populations are at a low.
The Barn Owl is a cavity nester, favouring large cavities within mature hedgerow trees or the ledges found in old agricultural buildings. The species has adapted well to nest boxes, and it is likely that a significant proportion of the breeding population – probably well in excess of 25% - now uses them for breeding. Incubation begins with the first egg and, since consecutive eggs are laid at intervals of c.2 days, the resulting brood of chicks can vary in age by as much as two weeks. This strategy increases the chances of at least some chicks surviving if prey availability is low during the chick rearing period; the oldest and largest chicks will receive food first, at the expense of the last to hatch.
Key facts
Clutch Size: 4 – 6 eggs
Incubation: 32 days
Fledging: 53 – 61 days
First Clutches Laid: April – May
Number of Broods: 1 – 2
Age at First Breeding: 1 year
Typical Lifespan: 4 years
Maximum Age from Ringing: 15 years 3 months 21 days (set in 2016)
Conservation
The Barn Owl was certainly a far more common species at the beginning of the 20th century than it is today, but numbers have recovered from a low point evident during the 1970s and 1980s and may now exceed 10,000 breeding pairs. The last national survey, carried out between 1994 and 1997, but the population at c.4,000 breeding pairs. Though previously Amber listed through its loss of UK range, the species was moved to the UK Green list in 2015.
The efforts of volunteers have helped the species, with the erection of nest boxes replacing nesting opportunities that had been lost to the removal of hedgerow trees and the conversion of old farm buildings. Road mortality remains an important cause of death for young birds, particularly during the period of natal dispersal when they move away from where they were raised to establish a breeding territory of their own. Agricultural chemicals, including pesticide seed dressings and rodenticides, may have had an impact on Barn Owl populations, making ongoing monitoring an important priority. Work to provide suitable hunting habitat, and to tackle other potential causes of mortality, has also benefited the species BTO notes.

In divine solitude
my thirsty soul
to you prays.
As a somber lonely bird
it wades...it perishes day by day.
In divine solitude
my thirsty and wounded soul
bows to you my Jesus, and prays
that with your divine light
and saving water
to drown its rebellious ways
against your will.
Support and comfort me
Master of storms.
Strengthen me to desire only
to lean and rest on you
as I face crushing waves,
and I make it safe to shore.

I want to thank everyone for so kindly appreciating my photos with your encouraging comments. I will keep on trying my best to get caught up visiting your wonderful galleries to appreciate your work. God willing by January 2016 I will begin my major in Photographic Technology and I am very excited about it, since I will also be able to work doing what I love. I believe in the healing power of creating and sharing art to make our world a better place. To my friends who complain about God's will not been fair since evil seems to prevail, I tell them that I also argue with Him sometimes, and cry to Him through my art when I face stormy waters. My faith grows deeper and my peace is perfected because I know that love is a powerful weapon to defeat evil. God is love, he is light and although we can not see the whole picture yet like in old photographic processing, it will be reveled in due time. You all have a wonderful weekend and please bear with me as I get caught up!

Some say the world will end in fire,

But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate

Is also great
And would suffice.

The Burning House in Sidney Street where Houndsditch Assassins Perished
This is a black and white printed postcard published by an unknown publisher of the the Battle of Stepney, also known as the Siege of Sidney Street. The postcard has a postmark dated 9 February 1911.
from Wikipedia:
In December 1910 there was an attempted jewellery robbery at Houndsditch in the City of London by a gang of Latvian immigrants. The robbery resulted in the murder of three policemen, the wounding of two others, and the death of George Gardstein, the leader of the Latvian gang.
The police were informed that the final two members of the gang were hiding at 100 Sidney Street in Stepney. The police evacuated local residents from the environs, and on the morning of 3 January 1911 a firefight broke out. Armed with inferior weapons, the police sought assistance from the army.
The siege lasted for about six hours. Towards the end of the stand-off, the building caught fire; no single cause has been identified. One of the agitators in the building was shot before the fire took control. While the London Fire Brigade were damping down the ruins—in which they found the two bodies—the building collapsed, killing a fireman, Superintendent Charles Pearson.

The artist says that in many conservative countries there are so many limitations as to what he can depict in his sculptures: “no nudity, no religion, no politics“. So in the Netherlands, famous for tolerance, he wanted to point out the importance of freedom of opinion.
The young calves are tended not only by their mothers, but also by other females of the herd. There are many eyewitness accounts of the females in the herd gathering around to welcome the CLose Up Of Baby Elephantnew-born. Within minutes of the birth, the mother and other females trumpet, rumble and scream, oozing temporal secretions down the side of their faces. During these initial minutes the mother also attempts to help the new-born rise to its feet. This is a matter of survival since the new-born must stand to drink its mother's milk. Without this necessary food, the calf is sure to perish.
of the perished gorge, that was one of my favorites, very secluded and just one pool and waterfall after another. Glad I made some pictures, before a severe storm came down in this area last year. The cliffs and rocky bed probably won't mind, this stuff is here for thousands of years and will be there long after we are all done, but all the intricate life, plants and oddities are gone, at least for a very long time, buried under meters of gravel, bolders the size of trucks went down there. But that's how nature works.

NEWCASTLE CO DOWN WALK ABOUT ON 29-05-2022 ..................The name of the town is thought to derive from the castle built by Felix Magennis of the Magennis clan in 1588, which stood at the mouth of the Shimna River. This castle was demolished in 1830.[4][5] The town is referred to as New Castle in the Annals of the Four Masters in 1433, so it is likely that he built on the site of an existing structure.[6][7][8]
The Montgomery Manuscripts record that Newcastle was besieged and later captured by Sir James Montgomery of the Ards in April 1642 in the aftermath of the 1641 Rebellion (pp. 128–134). Prior to 1641 the Castle belonged to the Magennis', but after the rebellion the property was confiscated and granted to Robert Hawkins, great grandfather to Robert Hawkins who assumed the surname of Magill. The date 1588 was inscribed on a stone placed over the front entrance of the Castle, built by Felix Magenis. Newcastle passed from the Magills to the Mathews, and subsequently to the Annesleys. In the late 1700s the Castle was modernised by the Matthews and then the Annesleys, and rented by the Board of Customs for the accommodation of revenue officers. Around 1830 the castle was demolished and the 'Annesley Arms Hotel' was constructed within the original castle compound. The 3rd Earl Annesley built a new 'marine residence', called 'Donard Lodge' on the lower mountain slope above the town (it was demolished in 1966). St. John's Church was also opened on 'The Rock' in 1832 to accommodate the visitors and growing population in Earl Annesley's developing seaside resort.
The Newcastle fishing disaster occurred on 13 January 1843 when boats from Newcastle and Annalong set out for the usual fishing stations, and were caught in a gale. 14 boats were lost in the heavy seas including a boat which had gone to the rescue. Only two boats survived, the Victoria and the Brothers.[9] 73 men perished, 46 of whom were from Newcastle. They left twenty-seven widows, one hundred and eighteen children, and twenty-one dependents. A Public Subscription was raised and the cottages, known as Widows Row, were built for the widows and dependents.[10][11] A local song about the disaster says "Newcastle town is one long street entirely stripped of men"[12]
In 1910 Harry Ferguson flew a small plane across Newcastle beach in one of the first engine powered flights by aircraft in Ireland. He completed the flight in an attempt to win a £100 prize offered by the town for the first powered flight along the strand. His first take off ended badly, but according to a modern newspaper report 'He flew a distance of almost three miles along the foreshore at a low altitude varying between fifty and five hundred feet'. This event is recorded by a plaque on the promenade.

Isidor Straus perished on RMS Titanic on April, 15th 1912. He died accompanied by his loving wife Ida Straus. Ida's body was never found.
Isidor Straus was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
This painting is dedicated to his memory.
On October, 31st 2008 I made a decision to dedicate a painting to every person and animal that died in the sinking of RMS Titanic April, 15th 1912. This resulted in a great deal of research and becoming acquainted with many interesting people, who have supported my endeavours. I then realised that people had died during the building of this magnificent ship and decided to add them to my list. In total I painted 1,600 paintings. I share some of the paintings with you and will be uploading works from this collection to mark the 100th Anniversary of Titanic’s sinking which falls on April 15th 2012.

I have already posted a few photos from Rideau Antiques, near Rideau Ferry (see map to right). What a unique place! If you live in this general area and are ever in the vicinity of Perth or Smiths Falls, you might want to take a look.
There's an incredible amount of stuff here, which I don't feel that I can do justice to here on Flickr, but I have posted a blog that gives a better description and overview of the place. Once again, if you live in Eastern Ontario, you might like to check it out for future reference. anvilcloud.blogspot.ca/2017/09/rideau-antiques.html

The Amaryllis is a beautiful, majestic, elegant and eye catching flower, but like everything in this life, it blossoms, flourishes, then like everything which has life - it perishes. We enjoyed the beauty of this for a while and before throwing it out I thought I would try and capture some of it's majestic qualities.

29. The Lord Jesus has promised us that, “whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” How will God accomplish what He has said?
The Answer from God’s Word:
............
"God Himself is life, and the truth, and His life and truth coexist. Those who are incapable of gaining the truth shall never gain life. Without the guidance, support, and provision of the truth, you shall only gain letters, doctrines, and, moreover, death. God’s life is ever-present, and His truth and life coexist. If you cannot find the source of truth, then you will not gain the nourishment of life; if you cannot gain the provision of life, then you will surely have no truth, and so apart from imaginations and conceptions, the entirety of your body shall be nothing but flesh, your stinking flesh. …
…………
Christ of the last days brings life, and brings the enduring and everlasting way of truth. This truth is the path through which man shall gain life, and the only path by which man shall know God and be approved by God. If you do not seek the way of life provided by Christ of the last days, then you shall never gain the approval of Jesus, and shall never be qualified to enter the gate of the kingdom of heaven, for you are both a puppet and prisoner of history. …
… Christ is man’s gateway to the kingdom during the last days, which none may bypass. None may be perfected by God except through Christ. You believe in God, and so you must accept His words and obey His way. You must not just think of gaining blessings without receiving the truth, or accepting the provision of life. Christ comes during the last days so that all those who truly believe in Him may be provided with life. His work is for the sake of concluding the old age and entering the new one, and is the path that must be taken by all those who would enter the new age. If you are incapable of acknowledging Him, and instead condemn, blaspheme or even persecute Him, then you are bound to burn for eternity, and shall never enter the kingdom of God."
from “Only Christ of the Last Days Can Give Man the Way of Eternal Life” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
Eastern Lightning, The Church of Almighty God was created because of the appearance and work of Almighty God, the second coming of the Lord Jesus, Christ of the last days. It is made up of all those who accept Almighty God's work in the last days and are conquered and saved by His words. It was entirely founded by Almighty God personally and is led by Him as the Shepherd. It was definitely not created by a person. Christ is the truth, the way, and the life. God's sheep hear God's voice. As long as you read the words of Almighty God, you will see God has appeared.
