Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
Robert Frost (1874-1963)
STAY, O sweet and do not rise!
The light that shines comes from thine eyes;
The day breaks not: it is my heart,
Because that you and I must part.
Stay! or else my joys will die
And perish in their infancy.

Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus) The grebe family on our local reservoir have managed to raise another clutch despite the precarious siting of their nest and the fact that it is so late in the year. All four eggs hatched but one was a day later than the rest and sadly the youngster perished yesterday while I was watching them. He was very small compared to the other three and was missing out on food the whole time. Mum shook the babies off her back for a stretch and the little one couldn't find his way back on to warmth and safety. She seemed concerned about him for a short time but soon switched her attention back to the remaining three who as you can see are definitely feeding well!
I absolutely loved hiking in the Land Before Time, searching for Little Foot, a young plant-eating dinosaur, but he perished for ever. The land reminds me of the Great Valley he was heading to but now, the trees are gone too…

The sun sees ruins of old that have long been forgotten.
The decay of the land that lays desolate and rotten.
Beauty can be seen from the sheen of her rays.
No eyes lie praise amongst the living these days.
For those of haste with wasteful tongues, bicker bitter words of envy.
Blot out their eyes for those that despise my fall and my rise for tears shed their eyes.
For as I was in your beginning,
I shall to be in your end.
From the dust of the earth, you were birthed.
To the dust return all the accursed of no worth.
The faithful live for eternity.
While the faithless perish eternally.
My light can bring joy, and my light can bring pain.
How you decide to walk in life will be judged by my flame.

Another from our little evening visit to Terence Bay last week. There is an Interpretation Park nearby which includes info about the history: "The luxury steamship SS Atlantic of the White Star Line, en route to Halifax, ran aground near Lower Prospect, Nova Scotia on April 1, 1873. Of the approximately 950 aboard, some 560 perished in the worst single-vessel marine disaster to occur off the Canadian coast prior to the sinking of the Titanic. Thanks to the efforts of fishermen from Lower Prospect and Terence Bay, nearly 400 were saved." (www.ssatlantic.com/)
Thank you to ALL for the kind comments, faves, and invites

Let the rain be as tears for the unborn that perish daily in our own land. As the heavens speak, Day unto day it utters speech- Psalm 19
Jeremiah 1:5
Innocent blood has a voice Genesis 4:10
Shedding innocent blood has consequences
Ireland is a blood guilty land that will continue to see God's righteous judgment.
In an unrepentant land everyone as such becomes a target for His judgment. It's 'blood for blood'
Numbers 35:33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.
Wilful ignorance of this murder, turning a blind eye, won't spare one from God's scrutiny.
Jeremiah chapter 2)
Someone needs to take ownership of this sin and stand in the gap for the land. This is where being married to the land makes a difference.
And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Ezekiel 22:30

In early June I posted an image of eight young merganser ducklings skedaddling across the water top. This is a pic taken June 26 of Mom and 4 of her ducklings. There are six but I couldn't get all of them in the frame. Two have perished since the eight skedaddlers in early June but the remaining 6 are getting bigger each day but still not of flight age yet. I believe they are flight worthy about 10 weeks from hatching so another few weeks they should be ready for their first flight.

This adorable Jian pup and I decided to brave the wintery weather that has been taking SL hostage seemingly overnight, and go exploring! I live in the southern US. There is no snow here! I am not joking when I say that maybe...maybe...once every decade or so, we will get about a fourth of an inch of snow, and it is as if martians had landed when that happens, as it is so fascinating and novel to us!! lol Don't get me wrong, I have seen lots of snow...I do get out and travel and such, but I don't see it outside the door of my own house!
Newfie said that he was fine with snow...I glanced at his dense, luxurious coat, and then at my ill put together black lacy top and shorts and was thankful that this was only pixel snow, or I would have surely perished! Thank Heavens as well for the sustenance of cinnamon rolls! :) Happy Sunday to everyone! ♥
A tribute from nature for those who perished as well as those who had their lives forever altered on Sept. 11. In so many ways it seems like yesterday and prayers that there is never a tomorrow like that day again.
It was a cold December day when I took this photo. This is an amazing mare known as Elganza. She was the lead mare in a beautiful band led by a stallion named Casper. Casper perished a couple years ago. Many other stallions have tried to take this little band but Elganza so far has had nothing to do with them. I think she waits hoping Casper will return. She is amazing.

It was unveiled on 19 September 2021 by King Willem-Alexander and Jacques Grishaver, Chairman of the Dutch Auschwitz Committee.
The monument commemorates the more than 102,000 Dutch Jewish victims and 220 Sinti and Roma who perished during the Second World War and were not given an individual grave.

Your word, Lord, is eternal;
it stands firm in the heavens.
Your faithfulness continues through all generations;
you established the earth, and it endures.
Your laws endure to this day,
for all things serve you.
If your law had not been my delight,
I would have perished in my affliction.
Psalm 119:89-92
Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours.
-- Ayn Rand
“I wouldn't mind
if life left me...
wingless
burnt to cinders
ripped by storms
scattered...like weeds
celestially wounded
without cherry blossoms
to perish with
but I would cry
with head held in my hands
if it left me...
unfulfilled.”

On our first return visit (2 weeks later) there was 1 chick still in the nest and the other chick was gone - - had it perished because it was pushed out of the nest by this dominant / alpha chick ??
Nature is nature sometimes - - we would look for quite awhile in the surrounding woods - - eventually finding the mother's roost, the father's roost and a stranded chick on the forest floor doing its best to survive by hiding atop an elevated stump.
This is early evening and so the ISO just got higher and higher as we searched.

Psalm 1
King James Version
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Under a tree, I achieve stillness, as my heart is able to calm and embody a vibration of love. Beyond that, my soul feels nothing short of free. And I owe all of this to the majesty of a tree.

Driving around looking at Christmas lights I came across this memorial in Lyons Michigan, with it’s lovely Christmas display honoring those who sacrificed there lives during war, I looked at the names listed and could not believe the amount of nineteen year olds who had perished.
Though this episode begins in a more traditional non fiction way, with many facts about how many mushrooms perish when the snow falls and temperatures plummet, the episode evolves further with a more empathetic feel. Even a mushroom documentary film maker must show the human side to the mushrooms and how they can suffer. Thus, there is a definite arc to the episode with a thrilling culmination of the collective voices of the mushroom community as they proclaim the following poem:
For days, we witnessed the ominous
“Winter is Coming!"
Well, winter is here, with it’s equal
wonder and terror
We cling to each other
like words in a sentence
without as many spaces.
We are withered, weathered,
and struggling to survive.
Lost souls shivering below flying doves
Past selves and Future selves
Culminating in a grim present moment
How much longer must we suffer and
Yearn for each sliver of daylight?
Oh, won’t some sweet soul
Come gallantly along
Crunching on the oppressive white
Pick us up out of our misery
Tear us from the dark tree bark
With all the dirt that hides under fingernails
And eat us alive?

Cherish, cherish
So tired of broken hearts and losing at this game
Before I start this dance
I take a chance in telling you
I want more than just romance
You are my destiny
I can't let go
Baby can't you see
Cupid, please take your aim at me
Cherish the thought
Of always having you here by my side
(Oh baby I) cherish the joy
You keep bringing it into my life
(I'm always singing it)
Cherish the strength
You got the power to make me feel good
(And baby I) perish the thought
Of ever leaving
I never would
I was never satisfied with casual encounters
I can't hide my need for two hearts that bleed
With burning love
That's the way it's got to be
Romeo and Juliet they never felt this way I bet
So don't underestimate my point of view
Cherish the thought
Of always having you here by my side
(Oh baby I) cherish the joy
You keep bringing it into my life
(I'm always singing it)
Cherish the strength
You got the power to make me feel good
(And baby I) perish the thought
Of ever leaving
I never would
Who? You!
Can't get away, I won't let you
Who? You!
I could never forget to
Cherish is the word I use to remind me of
Your love
(You're givin' it
You're givin' it to me boy
Keep giving me all-all-all your joy
Give me faith
I will always cherish you)

The last leaf.
Das letzte Blatt.
Was nicht der Herbst im Sturm genommen,
Vom Baume jäh hinweggerafft,
Das ist im Winter umgekommen.
Starr ruht das letzte Tröpflein Saft.
(Auszug aus einem Gedicht von Max Hartung).
The last leaf.
What the autumn did not take in the storm,
From the tree abruptly snatched away,
That perished in winter.
Rigidly rests the last droplet of sap.
(Excerpt from a poem by Max Hartung).
Let's dance in style, let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait, we're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?
Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music's for the sad men
Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders, we're getting in tune
The music's played by the, the mad man
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever, and ever
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever young
Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later, they all will be gone
Why don't they stay young
It's so hard to get old without a cause
I don't want to perish like a fading horse
Youth's like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever
So many adventures couldn't happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
We let them come true
Forever young, I wanna be forever young
Do you really want to live forever? (Forever)
Dipper feeding one of three juveniles under a small bridge hosting the confluence of 3 culverts leading into the river Irwell. The nest was built in the bridge. I believe two juveniles sadly perished the following day as I was not able to find them...I can only presume they were predated. I spent 2 weeks at the site (and another) in all weathers pretty much from dawn till dusk. Watching these birds was reward itself but for me this image was the icing on the cake.

Since the bushfires started, I am seeing new birds in my yard. Birds are smart, they know where free food can be had, even if it's not what they would normally eat. Among them are Lorikeets and honey eaters. They can get a drink in my yard and will take whatever I put out for them. Fresh fruit will be added to the menu.
I fear many brds will die of starvation in the weeks ahead, all the flowering trees and so many insects will have perished, and there will be nothing for the birds to eat.

An alpine view somewhere between Falls Creek and Mt McKay in Victoria, Australia, captured late afternoon on a freezing cold day.
In this photo there are numerous light white/grey lines here and there and also along some ridge lines, which are caused by the dead wood of snow gums that perished in a recent bushfire.
At 1849 metres (6,066 feet) high, Mount McKay is the highest drivable point in Australia.

Toucans are wonderful birds, sporting such lovely and large bills. This one is a Keel-billed Toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus) leaping up to get some bananas that the lodge regularly placed out for them. At the end of the trip a group of us when to Toucan Rescue Ranch which had such an educated (and pretty) guide who provided non-stop information as she led our tour of the facility. Although the name implies that its focus is on toucans, my impression was that sloths were its prime focus. We'll get to that in another post. I only mention it to encourage people to take the tour and support this, or one of the other rescue centers in San Jose. I recall her telling us about the toucan's bill. It's not strong, like a parrot, and cannot crack nuts (or the fingers of its handlers). Besides impressing humans, the chief function of the bill is regulation of body temperature. The bill is filled with blood vessels which are exposed to the ambient temperature over the large surface area of the bill. Most of the toucans at the facility were pets whose owners could no longer take care of them. Their presentation strongly discouraged toucans or other wildlife as pets, many of whom will outlive their humans and either perish or be taken by a refuge center. Common sense people!

John 3:16-
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Romans 10:8-13
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Acts 17:30-31
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

The 'Beast from the East' cold 'snap' saw many of these beautiful birds perish
With many of their fishing grounds frozen over., and suffering from deep cold and starvation many flew to the coast in a desperate final attempt to find food., stories of birds frozen in the ice have emerged., and we have noticed some 'regular' Kingfisher spots have had no Kingfisher's this year
Happily though that isn't the case everywhere., and this KF was busy catching and returning the fish to it's nest and chicks
For the reasons above., I find it doubly good to see them this summer!
Bloodroot is beginning to bloom in area woodlands now. They are a favorite wildflower for pollinating insects, though this early pair will certainly perish on Sunday.
Monument Lovćenska vila remembers the Montenegrin-Americans (and from other Balkan countries) who perished in the sinking of the Italian ship “Brindisi” www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?97930 on January 6, 1916 after it hit a mine of the coast of Albania at Shëngjin (San Giovanni di Medua /Medova).
Montenegro fought on the Allied side during the First World War. During the war, many Montenegrin-Americans returned to Montenegro to fight for their country of origin. 500 Montenegrins (also some Herzegovinians, Serbs, Bosnians) departed from Halifax, Canada carrying a Montenegrin flag reading “Fighting for their People”. They arrived in Naples, Italy and on Christmas Day, 1915, they boarded the ship “Brindisi” and with Italian naval escorts departed for their former homeland. On January 6, 1916 the boat hit a mine (laid by German Sub UC-14) and sank. Of the 500, it is estimated that 328 people perished in the sinking.
In 1939 Yugoslavia remembered this incident by erecting the “Lovćenska vila” monument designed and created by the sculptor Risto Stijović. The monument faces the Montenegrin World War 1 battlefield of Mount Lovćen. The monument was built by Yugoslavia with assistance of Montenegrin-Americans.

Snow capped skies
Standing by while cities
Perish in the reaches of the deep
Bloodlines fall
Lost it all, the pain of
Severing the bond we had as three
Here in a sanctum long abandoned
Unto the tinder falls a spark
I have a holy call to answer
To be an angel of the dark
So I will pray for death to take you
With my own cold and weary hands
And you'll arise reborn of ashes
Before the fire fades again
Close your eyes
Fire must die, and I will
Reap your embered spirit to survive
Let us rest
Never test the darkness
Keeping our own winter dream alive
Here in a sanctum long abandoned
Unto the tinder falls a spark
I have a holy call to answer
To be an angel of the dark
So I will pray for death to take you
With my own cold and weary hands
And you'll arise reborn of ashes
Before the fire fades again
One chosen path
A silent, tranquil
End without the purging fire
Fade to black like our desire
You've come too far
Unkindled like
I was before I saw the answer
To our rotting, hollow cancer
Now you have seen the father's anguish
Atop a painted glacier's peak
You've heard the tales of ash before you
From timeless legends that they speak
If you can listen now to reason
Then take the whispers to the heart
Forget this cold and black consumption
Forget this angel of the dark
Here in a sanctum long abandoned
Unto the tinder falls a spark
I have a holy call to answer
To be an angel of the dark
So I will pray for death to take you
With my own cold and weary hands
And you'll arise reborn of ashes
Before the fire fades again

This bee is also called the "Orange-belted Bumblebee". Similar to the Yellow Bumblebee it nests on the ground and scours open habitats for nectar and feeds honey to their larvae but has a more complex social structure.
The reproductive queen caste has a host of sister workers with the labor being divided up among subordinates who do foraging, nursing and nest maintenance.
This particular bee is very common throughout much of the north-eastern U.S. and Canada.
The queen and workers are adorned with black heads but the drones have yellow heads. Drones and workers perish in the fall of the year.

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
(1st Corinthians 1:18)
Death Valley is a desert valley located in Eastern California, in the northern Mojave Desert bordering the Great Basin Desert.
It is one of the hottest places in the world along with deserts in the Middle East.
The valley received its English name in 1849 during the California Gold Rush. It was called Death Valley by prospectors and others who sought to cross the valley on their way to the gold fields after 13 pioneers perished from one early expedition of wagon trains.
In 1994, the valley was redesignated as Death Valley National Park, as well as being substantially expanded to include Saline and Eureka Valleys.

Another sad story with the owls in Pinellas County, Florida. Last year, all three owlets perished, two from eating poisoned rats and one from bee stings. This year, mom and dad also produced three owlets, Huey, Dewey and Louie. The oldest, Huey, died a week ago from ingestion of a rat poisoned with an anticoagulant rodenticide. A few days later mom also died. Dad is looking after Dewey and Louie and so far, so good. But we've got to get rid of these rodenticides and find safer alternatives for the owls and other raptors not to mention pets and young children. Please, do not use rodenticides that cause secondary poisonings to wildlife.
Pictured here is Louie. He's around 9 weeks old now. Dewey is a week older and is likely a female as she is larger than Louie. Huey was likely also a female.
