Smile on Saturday: "portray the name of a music band".

Pearl Jam is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. T

My first of the year and the buzz of finding these stunning butterflies never ceases. Fingers crossed for a good season for this species.

Our return visit to the pearl-bordered fritillary site was in much cooler weather, and we hoped this might mean more chance of underwing shots. We were not disappointed!

Worth a [Z][Z]oom to see the colours of the individual scales, they are awesome.

Due to the lockdown and missing my trips to the forest I decided to put the camera in my saddle bag and have a ride up to the forest. The main trail through the forest was relatively busy this spot that I visited was deserted. I spent a pleasant 20 mins with these wonderful creatures before heading back home.

Macro Mondays: "Begins withe the letter P"

The Pearl Kite is the smallest Neotropical raptor. It is widespread throughout the dry to arid regions of South America, with an isolated population in Nicaragua. It is found in a wide variety of habitats; it prefers shrubby pasture, cerrado and open tropical woodland, but also occurs, at least locally, along the edges of tropical lowland evergreen forest. Pearl Kites perch fairly conspicuously upon tall shrubs or snags. From these perches they drop to the ground in a short dive to capture their quarry, which almost exclusively are small lizards. Though very small, its raptor-like posture, dark back, white collar and underparts, and black cap and mask render it unmistakable. Formerly thought to be a related to the falcons (Falconidae) due its small size and plumage pattern, the Pearl Kite is more likely a close relative of the kite genus Elanus, based on evidence from feather lice and anatomical features. doi.org/10.2173/bow.peakit1.01

Black Pearl pepper is a cultivar of Capsicum annuum. The leaves range from a deep purple to an onyx black in hue, and the plant blooms beautiful purple flowers. The peppers themselves are tiny, closer to chiltepin or pequin peppers in size than a typical long pepper. Unripened Black Pearls take on a similar onyx black color, and as they age they turn shades to a sultry crimson red. There’s no other way to say it – this is a stunning plant. No wonder it’s such a favorite for ornamental landscaping.https://www.pepperscale.com/black-pearl-pepper/

VOLENDAM - A village that was visited by famous painters from 1880 and immortalized. A village that was celebrated as the Pearl of the Zuiderzee. The name of the village to this day worldwide appeals to the imagination of millions of tourists.

Melbourne’s Pearl Tower, taken from the driveway of Crown Towers Hotel.

I originally planned to remove the Crown Casino roofline from the photo, but when it came to editing the photo, I thought it framed the subject nicely.

Blythe a Day - What Your Name means - 3/8/23

I named my Blythe Mondrian doll Greta after the character in the Sound of Music. It means "pearl." Here she is posing as one of my favorite painting subjects "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer, dated 1665. The book and movie inspired by this painting are incredible. The movie leaves out details so read and watch :)

For Dec 7 a little close order in remembrance for those who paid.

There is treasure in pain. An oyster that was not injured will never produce pearls because a pearl is a healed wound.

Thank you fotr your comments & fav.!
