Duomo di Bobbio (PC), noto anche come Concattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta.
STORIA
Al centro del tessuto urbano di Bobbio, in provincia di Piacenza, sorge il Duomo, una chiesa parrocchiale che fino al 1986 fu sede della diocesi della città, per poi divenire concattedrale della diocesi di Piacenza-Bobbio. La storia della nascita della cattedrale è strettamente legata all'origine della diocesi della città come separata dal territorio abbaziale. Infatti inizialmente la sede vescovile di Bobbio nacque nel 1014 per opera dell'abate e poi vescovo Pietroaldo, che risiedeva nell'abbazia. La sua morte provocò la separazione delle due cariche e lo spostamento nel 1017 del nuovo vescovo Attone nell'antica e piccola basilica di San Pietro. Successivamente nel 1075 il vescovo conte Guarnerio (1073-1095) spostò la sede della diocesi nella nuova cattedrale, dedicata a Santa Maria Assunta. Quindi la costruzione del Duomo di Bobbio risale proprio al periodo romanico, anche se a partire dal secolo XIII fino al XV fu sottoposto ad una serie di rimaneggiamenti che stravolsero il suo aspetto originario.
NOTIZIE STORICO-ARTISTICHE
Partendo dalla sua struttura esterna, la facciata arretrata risale al 1463 e presenta tre porte d'ingresso, con al centro l'ampio portale, al di sopra del quale è visibile il grande rosone centrale. La facciata è inoltre incorniciata da due torri campanarie ultimate nel 1532: a differenza di quella di destra che è più bassa e reca l'orologio, quella di sinistra rappresenta la vera torre campanaria, che in origine terminava da tre lati con una trifora e una monofora sul lato ovest. Quindi dell'impianto primitivo e romanico si conservano solo le basi delle due torri ai lati della facciata e una parte dei muri perimetrali con decorazioni ad archetti. La struttura interna della cattedrale presenta una pianta a croce latina, costituita da tre navate, con cappelle perimetrali, coperte da volte a crociera. La decorazione molto esuberante in chiaro gusto neogotico-bizantino è costituita da affreschi che risalgono alla fine del XIX secolo ad opera di Luigi Morgari, mentre le decorazioni bizantineggianti sono state seguite nel 1896 da Aristide Secchi. Nel lato destro si apre anche la cappella di S. Sebastiano, con una volta decorata da motivi a grottesche del 1507. Oltre il transetto si trova l'antica cappella di S. Giovanni che contiene affreschi recentemente ritrovati e restaurati. Nel riquadro a rosette quadrilobe è visibile un frammento di una “Incoronazione della Vergine”, che risale al 1370. Durante la seconda metà del XV secolo è stata invece eseguita da un artista anonimo lombardo la decorazione della volta, dove spicca la scena dell'Annunciazione, databile tra la fine del Quattrocento e gli inizi del Cinquecento, oltre ad una scena con S. Sebastiano.

My humble PC desk ($200 from resale shop), which is located in the dining area of my tiny apartment. It's a hardwood table with two of the chairs acting as makeshift shelves. Two boxes underneath for storage. You can't really see them, but I have four placemats from IKEA on the table to keep the top scratch-free. They make perfect mousepads for less than $2 a piece.
When the PC finally dies in a year or so, I'm hoping to switch it out with an Intel Mac Mini.
I wish I had bought an office chair with armrests. Really cushy seat though. The bright green square and the computer to the left are my footrests. :)
I'd have a real desk, but I utterly hate particle board and metal furniture. It's too heavy to move. And real wood desks are usually twice as expensive.
