Huge paws, really out of all proportion with the rest of the body at this age.
Puppy love with our friends fox red Labrador puppy. Taken with a DA40mm XS.
Going through my photos, found this attempt of a selfie with Neowise. Might be not the best quality photo, but it has something to say for me.
Firstly, it's kind of a once in a lifetime selfie :)
Secondly, the Plough (7 brightest stars of Ursa Major - the Great Bear constellation) can be seen very clearly together with the position of Neowise relating to the Plough. Also it can be seen that Neowise was not near as bright as the Plough, but more of the same brightness as other stars of Ursa Major - like the two stars to the left and down from Neowise. On the night of 21 July, those stars would be lambda Ursae Majoris and mu Ursae Majoris - they are supposed to represent the right hind paw of the Great Bear constellation. (I know it requires a lot of imagination to actually see the Bear, I never could manage that lol)

On our way back to Punta Arenas, we spotted two South American Grey Foxes (Lycalopex griseus) just outside a fence. They were feeding on the remains of a Hairy Armadillo (Chaetophractus villosus). Not exactly Kentucky Fried Chicken - to us - but the foxes enjoyed it. Here one of them cleans its paws right outside their den.
I have uploaded rather a lot of Polar Bear photo but I don't want to consign these to the bin as I am unlikely to get such photo-opportunities again. A number of people have alluded to the rule changes that come into force in in Svalbard in 2025 that will make photos like this very difficult. From March 1st until June 30th boats will not be permitted within 500m of a Polar Bear, though from July 1st until February 28th this distance drops to 300m. Polar Bears vary in their reaction to people and boats, but many are curious and will walk right up to a stationary boat in the pack ice. But the new rules say that boats should move away if Polar Bears approach to maintain the regulation distance.
We would not have approached this bear quite as close as this if we had spotted him earlier. But we were in a Zodiac cruising the coast and as we turned a blind rocky headland there he was, right in front of us. We did move back to a safer distance but initially I could not get the entire animal in frame. Needless to say, I was not operating the Zodiac. I was just seizing the opportunity to take close photographs. For the record I had 700mm on a full frame camera (500mm with 1.4x converter) and this was slightly cropped to centre it. It was taken on the east coast of the island of Spitsbergen at Bjornsund.
Bella decided to go to sleep while showing us the tips of her paws. She did her best for the theme - but one paw remains hidden somewhere under all that fur. A photo of the tips of her ears remains a work in progress - just a slight difference of opinion. I want the photo, she doesn’t. So she’s winning for now, but I’m determined too…
Happy Caturday.

A new buck has shown at the scrapes we have staked out and started his own scrape. He's rubbed orbital scent on the leaves above, urinated down his back legs, and is pawing the ground to leave his mark.
Our beautiful world, pass it on.
A memory of Daisy having fun. Not her most elegant pose, but one that shows her paws when she was playing. Happy Caturday.

My favourite photography model, poised for action - there's a toy that needs to be pounced on just out of the shot!
The theme this week is 'Fluffy', so many possibilities but I like fun & quirky and this one of Evie's paw makes me smile every time :) A fluffy mini me and she was so good to wait patiently. I want to try this with Olive some time, wish me luck!
Googly eyes, cat biscuit nose and paper tongue and parted fur to make her ears. The tiny pebble is because she loves pebbles lol.
A little off brief, but a single shoe none the less! Not yet put pad to pavement...
We're Here are in solidarity with the one shoe.
Hand-held & manually focused again (again!) by wobbling To&Fro with the macro, which is in demand it would seem.
*Geek Corner*
The depth of field is so narrow at this magnification (1:1) that getting much of anything in focus means using smaller apertures, it would seem, so here I worked up to f22 which produced the best results. The ISO had to go out to 800 and the Speedlite was on full blast (I had to change the batteries halfway through) but still I had to raise the exposure by a stop in Photoshop to get the exposure in the right range. All of this would be fair cop with film, & that's one of the perverse and nonsensical rules that seem to be important... ;-)

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. Quite a fat and organic roll-up he has on the go here, it smelt quite distinctive too. Enjoy!
Chuck my cat posing for me in one of the only spots without snow on the "bridge" that he so loves to watch the backyard from.
I was testing the long end of this Vivitar 70-150mm f3.8 CF lens and it seems like its just not as sharp at this end of the lens as it is at the close focusing or middle part of the lens. Giving it a twist and turning it toward the 105mm setting and the lens really starts to sharpen up a lot. It just seems to be soft at the 150mm range. This image was shot at f5.6 and I had to apply a good amount of post processing sharpening to get this image into the useable range. The focus peaking in the camera said Chucks face was in focus, but its still soft.
One thing I have noticed about this lens at the long end is that there seems to be a bit of swirl to the out of focus areas. Its showing it a little here, but in the images that were shot at wide open or f4 you can see the swirl happening in the background elements. Its a rather cool effect that I will have to try and work on.
Over all, This Vivitar lens is rather handy to have such range. It has some funky things going on with it. The longer end of the lens I still need to figure out, but it may not ever be great. But the close focusing results are pretty good for a lens that cost me $21 all in.
All I had to do was keep Floyd off the kitchen floor for a couple of hours, I turn my back for a second and there he was right in the middle leaving his grubby paw prints all over it.
Ghost kitty seems to be slightly more relaxed now, even in my presence, always provided that I respect his comfort zone. He still feels safer when another cat is around but I'm quite happy that he usually doesn't run and hide anymore as soon as he hears me. The photos of ghost kitty are all taken indoors and mostly at very low light due to the miserable weather these days. I don't use a flash because I don't want to startle him and so far he accepts the camera very well.

he really doesn't know many tricks, but Biscuit is getting the hang of this one okay :-)
I really should spend more time with him on some basic fun training :-)
We don't here to much about a dogs paws but when you think of them their pretty important. Every time the pup runs and plays the paws are at work, when your dog comes running over to great you the paws carried them there. Somehow I don't think paws get enough credit. Well, anyway, Milo is fast asleep and he has given us this opportunity to consider the importance of his paws.
DDC-Four & Mixed
We are happy she has 4 paws! And lovely paws they are too! She is a mixed breed. You can tell by the spots on her paws. We have been told she is a part red border collie and part Aussie Shepherd, though we don't know for sure.
Sunbathing above a radiator. When Daisy is warm & relaxed, she usually stretches her paw - this is a favourite pose.
Happy Caturday!
