My newest bear from a few weeks ago but has not yet hammed for a pic, with one of my first bears. The brown Bear has very large paws which made him that much cuter. Green bear is not too impressed I see.

The afternoon sun was still quite strong, but who could resist taking a shot of the Eastern Spinebill on colorful Kangaroo Paws?

I captured a sleeping Melo! right as it comes the jpg from the camera, trying some acros simulation.
CSXT GP40-2 #6280 leads a GP30 and GP35 at Paw Paw WV in early 1989. This location is on the western end of the B&O's Magnolia Cutoff.
The 6280 and I have some history...I ran it many times, mostly on locals. Once I got called to take an FRA car up the RF&P, and the good folks riding back there were looking to make their connections to Amtrak at Washington DC. I told them it wouldn't be a problem. I did my due-diligence when toning up the dispatcher to let her know we weren't a "work train" as she initially thought, but rather an "Occupied FRA special with distinguished guests" aboard. The clears came shortly thereafter.
Now, this was before PTC and let's just say the over speed feature didn't exactly work as intended on ole 6280. So with timetable in hand for the passenger speeds, I took the 6280 and the FRA car up the road as fast as I could get away with without being de-cert. Usually a maintained 5mph over. The FRA people made their connections, and our deadhead back to Richmond took longer than the train trip up!

The Happy Caturday theme for 25 November 2023 was "paws" with a nuance of "I hope to see some of those wonderful poses where our cats show us their paws curled while sleeping, stretched out when hot, etc." Well, it has dipped below freezing at night for some of the first times this season, so when I have seen Tikki sleep this week, her paws are completely invisible. Similarly, I could find an old photo of "stretched out when hot" but... I thought I'd try something else. Here are her paws when she has just climbed to the top of her scratching post to get my attention. As you see, the rest of her is out of focus as it is trying to get my attention :-) Happy Caturday all!
The two genera of kangaroo paws Anigozanthus and Macropidia are believed to have evolved in the south-west of Western Australia from a common Gondwanan ancestor. In the photo you see Macropidia fuliginosa, commonly called black kangaroo paw, the sole species of the genus Macropidia. It is one of the more unusual flowers in the South-West Botanical Province of Western Australa, a biodiversity hotspot.

The theme for Happy Caturday this week is paws. I didn't realized how often my cats sleep with their paws tucked in until I started paying attention to paws. Finally Jimmy stretched out and I got a back paw.

It's not easy to keep your paws and claws clean if your enclosure is full of sand !:)
This is - of course - another photo of one of my Wombat friends at the zoo.
In the comments I add a capture of the owner of these impressive paws and claws. They belong to a Spectacled Bear at our zoo. He was enjoying the lovely sunshine that day on a rock in their enclosure.
What do I love most about Bella? An impossible question! I love Bella’s paw stretching towards me, her big eyes, her nose with its tiny scar, her tabby stripes…

On our way back to Punta Arenas, we spotted two South American Grey Foxes (Lycalopex griseus) just outside a fence. They were feeding on the remains of a Hairy Armadillo (Chaetophractus villosus). Not exactly Kentucky Fried Chicken - to us - but the foxes enjoyed it. Here one of them cleans its paws right outside their den.

Bella decided to go to sleep while showing us the tips of her paws. She did her best for the theme - but one paw remains hidden somewhere under all that fur. A photo of the tips of her ears remains a work in progress - just a slight difference of opinion. I want the photo, she doesn’t. So she’s winning for now, but I’m determined too…
