I often describe these birds as fishing but their approach has more in common with a stealthy hunter than an angler dropping a line. Great Egret on Horsepen Bayou.
This Great Heron is definitely more patient then me near the water, waiting to catch a fish :)
Ce grand héron est beaucoup plus patient que moi, proche de l'eau, pour attraper un poisson.
A bit of a tongue twister title, but I just love humor with my photography. We have several varieties of these small but robust flowers in our gardens. The deep rich color just explodes when photographed !!

I was a little surprised to see a Blue heron fishing along Multnomah Creek just above the falls. We thought he was an idiot... because clearly there aren't any fish up there... Well, he caught one right in front of us. Sometimes it's important to be shown you don't know what you're talking about...

Owls have an incredible ability to sit still for hours while I watch them, and then do something interesting the instant I look away. This little one was no exception to that rule. ;)
If it does not take too long, I'll wait for it all my life

Spotted at Sprotbrough Flash the other day. For nice we were lucky, we only arrived at the hide five minutes before the Kingfisher appeared whilst the others who saw it had waited a couple of hours for it to turn up.
I visited Brooksby Farm today to photograph their emu. They sell small ice cream cones containing pieces of vegetables to give to their animals. The goats, alpacas, and sheep preferred the shade, so the emu got all the treats, after posing for many photos.
Love is patient and kind....It does not demand its own way. Love never gives up never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance. 1 Cor. 13:4-7

My son was very patient with me - like an exitable kid in a sweet shop - I ran around like a mad thing taking as many picture of this stunning location as I could.
Blue dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis)
These dragonflies, like others of their infraorder, are carnivorous, and are capable of eating hundreds of insects every day, including mosquito and mayfly larvae. The adult dragonfly will eat nearly any flying insect, such as a moth or fly. Nymphs have a diet that includes other aquatic larvae, small fish, and tadpoles. These dragonflies are known to be voracious predators, consuming up to 10% of their body weight each day in food.
The blue dasher hunts by keeping still and waiting for suitable prey to come within range. When it does, they dart from their position to catch it.

lookout along the banks. Fun to observe them.]
Kudzu and Jack want me to put down the camera and pat them. They live in the old greenhouse at Belmont Audubon Habitat.
