Christmas is less than a fortnight away and nature here in Ostwestfalen is like early Spring. We used Sunday afternoon for an extended hiking tour around home waters of the river Werre in the Löhne area.
These shots will surely test it!

Fishing on ogmore beach. I'd much rather be the photographer, he was planning on being there most of the night!
A heron stands motionless in one of the lakes at our local Nature Reserve. I stood and watched for quite a while, but he (or she) hardly moved, so great was the concentration required to catch something edible. This is one of the smaller lakes at Plantsbrook Nature Reserve, only a short distance away from home. Once again, I'm so happy to have had Marnie with me, she doesn't frighten wildlife and waits patiently while I take photographs 😃. She's the perfect companion.

This immature Little Blue Heron was waiting for the perfect moment to strike. You can just see hints of its blue plumage starting to come through.

I took a trip to the refuge last month to try some wildlife photography with my new zoom lens. Needless to say I still need some practice, but here's the best photo I took from about 200 shots!
This robin was sitting in a tree and must have wanted its picture taken. It sat perfectly still for several minutes while I snapped away.

I waited for the snail to emerge from its shell but it wouldn't play ball. Hours later it slid off behind the rock. I had been outwitted.
There is a small exhibition of kinetic sculpture at one of our local colleges this weekend, and, since the campus is very close to home, i made a quick trip there yesterday afternoon. This large piece, by Jeff Kahn, and titled 'Transcending Tides', was particularly beautiful, moving with the wind, responding to the movements of its own centers of gravity.
I waited for this particular alignment, watching it develop over the course of five minutes or so. At times, I find that I am anxious to press the shutter when I am out shooting, but I've learned that there is great value in patience, in waiting for the right moment, the moment when the lines and lighting and perspective are all just so. Five minutes is certainly not a very long wait, and I know that many photographers wait for hours, days, weeks, months for conditions to be perfect, depending on their subjects. Or they prepare their scenes, their subjects so meticulously in order to get it right. Five minutes, in the grand scheme of things, is not very long to wait. Just five minutes …
