DSC_8637-Tall Ship Lord Nelson sail past the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City during Rendez-vous 2017 in July. 40 ships participated in the event. The 3 masted square-rigged Lord Nelson is from the United Kingdom and named after the British Admiral.
Very widely distributed, breeding from Australia to Spain and Morocco, with the northern extent of migratory breeders extending to northern Russia and Mongolia. Migratory over much of the Eurasian range, predominately wintering in sub-Saharan Africa. Present year-round in the Indian subcontinent eastwards through Myanmar, Lao PDR, Viet Nam, Cambodia and northern Thailand, China, the Republic of Korea, DPR Korea and far south eastern Russia; also Japan, Sulawesi and the Lesser Sundas (Indonesia), Papua New Guinea and Australia. Birds are seen on passage through central and southern Thailand and the Malaysian Peninsular, indicating that a proportion of birds in the eastern range are also migratory.

The old Levant tin mines near ST Just in Cornwall. A dramatic feature in a remote but beautiful landscape.
I recently spent a couple of days in the lovely town of Bath and discovering much of its historical landmarks, here we have the River Avon, Pulteney Bridge and of course the Pulteney Weir. Weirs are a means of flood defence and are installed where dams are not a realistic solution to flooding.
I was a little disappointed with the Fall colors in Mono County over the past weekend. Most aspen trees along June Lake loop have already sheded their leaves. The only place where there was still a good amount of Fall color showing was Lundy Canyon. We arrived here late in the afternoon and strolled along this dirt road. The low angle sun produced a nice star burst among the aspen trees. It felt refreshing with the scent in the ambient.
This abandoned gas station is located in Dodson, Oregon, along the Historic Columbia River Highway. Named for Ira Dodson, who was an early settler in the area, Dodson was the site of the McGowan salmon cannery and a fish wheel c. 1900.
Update: I photographed this in October of 2020. A couple days ago there was a massive landslide in the area. It swept over the main highway and a passing motorist who's still buried under 12 feet of mud and debris. It's not the first time Dodson's suffered from landslides. In February 1996 a series of massive debris flows occurred destroying homes and blocking the railroad and highway for several days. The amount of rain that hit the Dodson territory this past week was impressive.

Today we took a family trip to Kalamazoo, Michigan to the AirZoo. The grandkids loved it, the grownups loved it. We had a wonderful time exploring planes from the past to the the present and discovering outerspace. These are some colorful planes of yesteryear taken from the second floor of the museum. I love the bright colors and wild imaginations of those who decorated them. By the way, these are not models but real, actual airplanes.
