This week's Big Excitement for me ! My first excursion with my newly delivered camera took me to our nearest field and it was being harvested. A combine harvester - Oh JOY ! You can see the dust it's kicking up over there on the right near the trees. The driver saw me taking photos and kindly drove down the field again and right past me, smiled and gave me a 'thumbs up'. Isn't it wonderful when people are so kind? Made my day ! (That may be my next upload).

The clouds were beautiful and I loved the lines the newly cut stubble made, so I painted this scene in Topaz Impression 2. I do hope you like it !

As always, thank you so much for your comments, faves or for just looking. Happy weekend to you all ... I hope you find similar kindness and friendliness in everyone you meet.

I had a couple of images in mind but then saw this rose in a garden in our street.

Despite the fact the age of steam is long past, it is still common to speak of ships "steaming past". In the same way we refer to an earlier era when we say we are going "sailing" on a ship.

The motion blur on this photograph actually allows us to make a calculation of the speed of the "Spirit of Tasmania I" as it moves past us in the Mersey River. To clarify what I said yesterday, it is important to get everything else in sharp relief so that the only blur we see is the movement of the ship. So I've done some calculations.

The "Spirit of Tasmania I" is 194.33m long (637ft 7in). It is possible to see a single light that appears as a bar representing the distance travelled in the time of exposure. That's the simple formula. The one obvious example is the green light on the top starboard deck. [In the next photograph you will see that this is indeed a single point of green light.] My rough estimate is that this bar represents about 6m. Now given the exposure time here is 0.6 of a second, that equates to 10m per second or 36km/h (19.4 knots). From the river bank it looks even faster, but that speed sounds about right, as the ship slows to make its way into the narrow channel.

Many photographers gravitate exclusively to steam, being drawn by the living machines that breathe smoke and steam. Others gravitate toward “regular service” common carrier trains, using derogatory terms like “tea kettles” and “fake trains” to dismiss steam operations. Strasburg’s status as America’s oldest, continuously-operating carrier is often forgotten, falling through the cracks between the two camps. In the past several decades, Strasburg has built their freight business significantly, and usually needs a run to the NS interchange at Leamon Place before the tourist trains commence. Here the other side of Strasburg is seen returning, shortly after leaving Leamon Place.

Over the past couple of days I have been in Scotland along the Fife Coastal trail and there are some beautiful little harbours in this corner of Scotland. Though I thought Crail was by far the most picturesque of those I saw. Certainly worth a visit if you are ever in the area.

Sorry for the lack of activity here on Flickr but recently I have been puttting a lot of effort into my motorsport feeds on here and also on Instagram. Not everyones cup of tea but a great hobby of mine.

Many thanks for taking the time to view this and other images in my stream. Instagram kev_mac_66

Past couple of years was incredibly difficult for many of us, yet, as a human race, together we have marched on.

On the years ahead we will face many more challenges, but again, as a human race we will move forward.

The irony is that many in the privileged world is denying the opportunity they have in hand. Whereas, the underprivileged can only wait and watch and suffer.

Many of us will have to pay the price for their sins, perhaps not in this lifetime but the next. Many of them are already paying the price in this lifetime for the sins of ours.

From all of this, we will move on, at least for now. In all of this we forgot that Knowledge and Wisdom are not the same. Today we all know everything, yet be none the wiser.

No one has seen tomorrow, but we all know it will come. I wish we all could do something better today such that we have a better tomorrow.

I wish all of you a Very Happy New Year of 2022. Lets act together, however small it is, to make a better tomorrow.

With this I will post the last image of this year, which I was extremely fortunate to witness and capture. I have already posted a few of them before, but this one is the culmination of exposure blending of 51 images (17 images each of -1, 0, +1 EV).

Once again, Best Wishes for a Happy New Year.

Thanks a lot for your visits and comments
