So far in 2015, 160,000 migrants have arrived in Greece, already almost four times more than in the previous year. Kos, just kilometres from the Turkish coast, has received thousands of migrants already this year.

A section of one of my bookshelves... the wooden ‘P’ is for Peter, and is a birthday present from John and Sally many years ago. It rests on a paperweight which was a present from my mother in the early 1970s.

In August 1992 for the flower show Shrewsbury Park & Ride saw what I believe to be the only operation on the service of deckers. The two vehicles concerned operated by Midland Red North were on the temporary Shirehall Hall service one being former Crosville BMA520W which is seen in Barker Street passing the long demolished multi storey car park
"P'tit quinquin" is a song by Alexandre Desrousseaux which was written in the Picard language in 1853. Picard is closely related to French, and is spoken in two regions in the north of France – Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Picardie and in parts of the Belgian region of Wallonia.
This simple lullaby (P'tit quinquin means "little child") demonstrates the revival of Picard in the area, to the extent that it became the marching song of the northern soldiers leaving for the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Today it could be called the unofficial anthem of the French city of Lille, and more generally of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France.

The Fisher P-75 Eagle was intended to fill the Army Air Forces' 1942 need for an interceptor. Its unique design featured two coaxial contra-rotating propellers connected by dual drive shafts running under the cockpit to a 24-cylinder liquid cooled engine located amidships. The original concept called for use of proven airframe components, such as P-40 wing panels, A-24 tail and F4U landing gear, to reduce the design and testing period.
The first of two XP-75s using component parts made its initial flight on Nov. 17, 1943. Flight tests revealed unsatisfactory performance. This, combined with a mission change from interceptor to long-range escort, caused major changes in the original design. Ultimately, the idea of using proven airframe components had to be abandoned. The AAF ordered six XP-75s of the revised configuration along with 2,500 P-75As. The improved version was still unsatisfactory and after three Eagles had crashed, the entire program was cancelled on Nov. 8, 1944. Only eight XP-75s and six P-75As were built.

This replica of a P-39 Airacobra was built by the hand of Watson Lake resident David McIlmoyle and was nearing completion when I took this photo in his workshop on July 10, 1990. McIlmoyle was inspired to take on this project as a result of a keen interest in the wartime history that took place where he lives. Watson Lake, Yukon Territory was an important military airfield and pitstop on a 7000-mile long airway that was called the ALSIB Route (Alaska-Siberia); this was a wilderness airway used to deliver nearly 8,000 warplanes under the Lend-Lease Plan to our Soviet Allies.
McIlmoyle was unable to find a local P-39 wreck to rebuild so to satisfy his need for a project he decided to build one out of plywood in his workshop out back of his house. After a lot of jigsaw work the end result was pretty impressive and when fully assembled and painted it was placed on an outdoor pedestal at the local museum. I heard that several of the harsh Yukon winters took a toll on the wooden P-39 and it was removed... I don't know what became of it. The odd serial number is not true to how P-39s were numbered but is in fact David McIlmoyle's birthdate.
