B&P's weekday southbound is coasting down the hill into Johnsonburg near Wilcox. PA on October 4, 2023. This is one of those spots where using the telephoto wouldn't normally get you a better picture. But I grabbed it here just in case Mr. Cloud took the closer one from me. And of course that is what happened to just the front half of the lead unit. So I got this instead of no picture.
RF&P slug "C" at the southbound classification yard in Potomac Yards in Alexandria, VA. RF&P once owned 20 Alco S-2s which replaced steam switching locomotives at both Pot Yard and Acca Yard in Richmond. The S-2s gave 20-plus years of good service until they were replaced by EMD switchers in the mid-late 1960s. In 1967, three S-2s were converted to slugs by the RF&P, and they were lettered A, B & C. They were primarily assigned to Pot Yard, mated with an SW-1500, as seen here. RF&P C was built as RFP 71.
Equally as interesting as the slug is the cut of B&O "Solid Gold" FGE insulated box cars sitting in the background. Online sources show this series of RBLs to be refurbished at FGE's Alexandria, VA shop in April 1985, weeks before this photo was taken. This was probably their first move after shopping.
