My son shares my love of books, so when we were walking in downtown Berkeley, the first place we stopped at, after brunch, was the bookstore :))
I also learned that Berkeley has no chain stores at all
Not even a Mickey D's!
He has been there for 4 years and its a fact I did not know :))
I was utterly impressed!!
Only mom&pop stores, all so quaint and beautiful
One reason why he does not eat fast food when home ;)
This bookstore was full of mostly used books
We spent an hour there, and I could have spent an entire day without knowing where the time went.

Esquelbecq Castle
The castle was already mentioned in 1299, when the daughter of Thierry d'Esquelbecq, Beatrix, married Gauthier Ghistelles. Their descendants owned the Esquelbecq castle until 1584, when the French lords were forced to sell their possessions in Flanders by the Spanish rulers.
The castle was besieged several times. In 1586, part of the castle was destroyed by Spanish malcontents. From 1606-1610 the castle was rebuilt.
The purchaser and new lord and earl of Esquelbecq was Valentin de Pardieu, governor of Gravelines, who led campaigns with the armies of Charles V. When he died without heirs in 1595, the castle of Esquelbecq was left to his nephew Philippe Levasseur de Guernonval. His descendants owned the castle for the next 225 years. In 1793, the Esquelbecq castle also suffered the wrath of the Patriots. Everything that reminded them of the Ancien Régime was looted, destroyed or removed. At the beginning of the 19th century, the castle was ruined by battles and 15 days of enemy occupation. The Guernonval family abandoned it and finally sold it in 1821 to Louis Colombier, a merchant from Lille.
In 1984, the keep collapsed. From 2000 to 2016, restoration work was carried out.
The castle, outbuildings and garden and landscape park are protected and listed on 17-08-1987.

The establishment is owned by Mr. JD Russel, a distinguished gentleman with rugged good looks and dark hair. It was rumored that he had once stood alongside the President during the famed charge up San Juan Hill, a tale that added to his allure. Whenever he was not engaged in assisting patrons, he took pleasure in offering a complimentary piece of hard candy from his extensive display.
This day, as I approached the entrance, he could be seen diligently sweeping the walkway. Upon noticing my presence, his face brightened with a warm and cordial smile as he stepped forward to hold the door open. “Good afternoon, Miss MacKenna. A truly splendid day, is it not?” he inquired graciously. I responded with a smile, expressed my thanks, and offered a playful wink. “Indeed, Mr. Russel, it is a most delightful day,” I replied.

I bought a Pentax KF today. I haven't owned a digital camera since July of 2024 and haven't done much photography since here and there. I wanted to try the Pentax KF (formally known as the K70) because I never owned a Pentax digital and I like the fact that it's a K-Mount so I can use all sorts of vintage glass on it.
It feels weird shooting a DSLR in 2025 and being APS-C when I had a full frame mirrorless, its a huge leap backwards.
I can't say I like the camera much, its a bit too cramped for me but for the money, its an incredible camera with IBIS and full weather sealing and with a max shutter of 1/6000th when most in this price range are maxed out at 1/4000th. Plus it has a flippy screen too which is handy sometimes although the auto focus in live view is nothing to write home about.
The 18-55 kit lens it comes with is OK but its pretty much unusable for me but I've experienced good glass before so its hard to NOT compare it to it. If I keep the camera I might try a better lens and see if it changes how I feel about it.
Anyways this is just my first impressions and the best thing I like about it so far is the colors, they have a different look to them.
I'm pretty rusty with a DSLR, brings me back for sure! Been in a photography funk for almost a year and not sure if its gonna pull me out of it or not but I wanted to give it a try!

As you know by now, I love when artists use music to tell a story, weaving the music and the lyrics into a tale filled with emotion and colours. Don McLean is one of those Artists who masterfully achieve this. Vincent is an Ode to the dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh (1853 - 1890). He struggled with mental illness all through his life and died at his own hands at the age of just 37. During his life, he barely sold any of his paintings. Which makes the fact that these days they are worth millions kind of a cruel joke. Don McLean weaved numerous paintings of VanGogh into his Lyrics, which is another nice touch

Impressive view of the Castle and the town of Atienza, province of Guadalajara, Spain, from a hill located to the west with a slight elevation above.
HISTORY: Atienza, the ancient Celtiberian Thytia, is named by the Latin chroniclers as one of the points of hardest resistance of the Celtiberians to the attack of the Roman invaders.
Only when Numancia and Termancia fell, could the Roman Caesars say that the old Atienza had been made theirs.
Here the Romans put their watchtower, and later the Arabs made Atienza one of their strongest enclaves of resistance against the Christian neighbors in the Reconquest.
Battles arose throughout the Middle Ages around this Muslim castle, with which Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar did not want to engage in combat as he considered it a "peña mui fuert" (a very strong rock). Between the years 870-874 it was reconquered by Alfonso III the Great, passing again to the Moors shortly after.
The castle frequently changed hands between Muslims (Arabs or Moors) and European Christians until it was finally taken by Alfonso VI in 1085.
Its uses were varied, from a prison for nobles to the home of the Bourbon king Felipe V.
In the 19th century, specifically in the year 1811, its deterioration and ruin began, remaining in that state until today.
DESCRIPTION: Today the castle consists of a tower and an inner enclosure 130 m by 30 m.
The arched entrance is flanked by two square towers.
There are two covered cisterns in the enclosure.
There is a fireplace on the upper floor of the main tower.
Originally the castle had four storeys as well as tunnels which connected it with churches in the town.
It was protected by two walls, one connecting the main tower to the entrance, the other protecting the rock itself.
GAME OF THRONES: In the series "Game of Thrones" areas of the castle were used as part of the plot.

Impresionante vista del Castillo y de la localidad de Atienza, provincia de Guadalajara, España, desde una colina situada al oeste con una ligera elevación superior.
HISTORIA: Atienza, la antigua Thytia celtíbera, es nombrada por los cronistas latinos como uno de los puntos de más ardua resistencia de los celtíberos al ataque de los invasores romanos.
Solamente cuando cayeron Numancia y Termancia, pudieron los césares romanos decir que la vieja Atienza había sido hecha suya.
Aquí pusieron los romanos su atalaya, y luego los árabes hicieron de Atienza uno de sus más fuertes enclaves de resistencia contra los vecinos cristianos en la Reconquista.
En torno a este castillo musulmán, con el que Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar no quiso entablar combate al considerarlo como una "peña mui fuert"(a very strong rock), surgieron las batallas a lo largo de toda la Edad Media. These are old wooden railway sleepers that were ripped up from the track bed at Shirebrook North Railway Station, long gone and now the site of a housing development. The station was at Langwith Junction, in North-east Derbyshire and closed to general rail traffic around 1955. These wooden sleepers were ripped up from the track and seemingly just dumped to one side with nature gradually overcoming them, slowly rotting them away and recycling the wood for its own use once again!
This shot was taken on a cold and frosty day in February. I have used monochrome to accentuate the air frost that has accumulated on the vegetation!

Mount Carmel Junction and Mount Carmel are unincorporated communities located 12 miles (19 km) east of Zion National Park and 17 miles (27 km) north of Kanab in Kane County, Utah, United States. They lie in close proximity to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park.
Mount Carmel Junction sits at the junction of U.S. Route 89 and State Route 9 in southwestern Utah. Mount Carmel is one mile (1.6 km) north of the junction. Mount Carmel Junction is set in the high desert of the Colorado Plateau.
Owned by the National Trust and a lovely place to eat and drink.
