As the sun peaks through on an overcast day, a shabby looking NR46 leads Great Southern Rail's 2AM8 Overland to Melbourne seen here passing through Tailem Bend.

A very 'Overland themed' 5 minutes takes place in Lara as A66 & S306 race 707 Operations' up Grainlander from Quambatook (including 4 ex-Overland cars in tow) through Lara on their way to Melbourne as 8194. Only a few minutes later, NR106 plays catch-up on 1AM8 up JBR Overland from Adelaide. The two trains met in a running overtake several minutes after this photo near Manor. 7/3/21

A rake of nine old Lima cars gently enhanced and upgraded to give a "nice" resemblance .
ORR 11L was given additional 'Overland and Continental' branding that didn't appear on any other vehicle and was very much in fashion at the time to identify coaches used on exotic overseas work. Only a handful of Vistadomes on various chassis were sold in the UK before it was replaced in 1974 by the 300 Line, and they didn't generally have long lives with their original owners, so this one's story seems quite realistic for a fictional model.

This car was manufactured by the Overland Car Company for just three years, 1926, 1927 and 1928.
Overland eventually became Willys Overland, then Willys-Knight and eventually Kaiser-Jeep Corporation.
Three of the girls who were passengers on the Safaris Overland trip that left London in September 1968, bound for India. Penny is the only one of the three whose name I remember – she's lower right, at the front.

The daily Overlander waits for departure time at Auckland's Britomart station. Its destination is Wellington, a scheduled 12 hour trip, and it was our ride for the day.
Britomart is a terminal station and the main station for Auckland. It was opened in 2003 when the line was extended in tunnel into the CBD. The tracks and platforms are underground, with the old post office building used as the entry.

One of the girls on the Safaris Overland bus that left London in September 1968 for India, is seen here riding a camel. This may have been in Turkey, or maybe it was Iran, I can't remember exactly. It was a long time ago.
