Been growing the moustache now for 6 weeks and it's now about 8mm long, and starting to cause me a few problems when eating.
So to overcome this I have worked out a completely fail-safe method of eating, which involves firstly pulling my top lip back and gnawing off the edges of my food like a gerbil.
She managed to overcome this obstacle and we all heaved a sigh of relief because if she could not make it neither could we. It was more pleasant than exciting up among the trees for me. The world looked so different from this great height. Now, I know how a monkey feel.:))
All medieval knights had to overcome a difficult hurdle. How, after a lifetime of bloody slaughters and brutal rapes should they escape the fires of hell? One of the first knights who found the highway to heaven was Charlemagne´s kinsman William of Gellone, who founded the monastery of Gellone, became a monk and was canonized a saint in 1066.
Ewenny Priory was founded by the Norman knight Maurice de Londres in 1141 . Maurice granted the church to the abbey of St. Peter at Gloucester together with the church of St Brides Major and the chapel at Ogmore "in order that a convent of monks might be formed".
There had been an older, monastic cell. It is described in the 12th century Book of Llandaff as dedicated to Eguenni, an early Welsh saint. De Londres plundered the site with the intent of building a castle on it but was stopped by a decree from Pope Honorius II in 1128 which threatened the knight with excommunication. The new priory was unusual in having extensive military-style defences.
The priory was badly damaged during the rebellion of Owain Glyndŵr in the early 15th century. When King Henry VIII introduced the Reformation, only the prior and two monks remained here. It was dissolved in 1540. In 1545 the priory was sold. Parts of the convent buildings were converted into a manor house, while other parts were demolished. The eastern part of the church remained unused and fell into disrepair after the dissolution of the priory. The nave, however, was used as a parish church.
Water is the softest thing, yet it can penetrate mountains and earth. This shows clearly the principle of
softness overcoming hardness.

Use of locks in canals
-------------------------
Early completely artificial canals, across fairly flat countryside, would get round a small hill or depression by simply detouring (contouring) around it. As engineers became more ambitious in the types of country they felt they could overcome, locks became essential to effect the necessary changes in water level without detours that would be completely uneconomic both in building costs and journey time. Later still, as construction techniques improved, engineers became more willing to barge directly through and across obstacles by constructing long tunnels, cuttings, aqueducts or embankments, or to construct even more technical devices such as inclined planes or boat lifts. However, locks continued to be built to supplement these solutions, and are an essential part of even the most modern navigable waterways.

On January 1st of every year, new heritage works enter the public domain. Unfortunately, these works often remain inaccessible to the public.
In order to share experiences and best practices in opening up this material, Meemoo, COMMUNIA, Creative Commons, Wikimedia Europe, Wikimedia Belgium, the Royal Library of Belgium and Europeana co-organised the annual Public Domain Day on 9 January 2025 in Brussels.
This event highlighted inspiring developments and European use cases and examined the legal, financial, technical and institutional barriers that prevent the public access to this works. Discussions focussed on strategies to overcome these obstacles, ensuring that public domain content can truly benefit everyone.
