Re-uploaded with a new (I hope more subtle) processing, where I have remove the strong orange tones of the original one.

This was taken during the day in the pouring rain. As soon as I raised my camera to take the picture the lens got wet, but it actually didn't make much difference in the photograph. It wasn't quite this dark, but it should have been.

It is a former estate garden featuring annuals, roses and wildflowers and an extensive rockery. It is located on Wilket Creek, one of the tributaries of the Don River West Branch. The estate's title was once held by Alexander Milne, a Scottish weaver who settled here after the War of 1812 and left in 1832. The land and the woolen/saw mills was obtained by Rupert E. Edwards in 1944 and created his country home. Edwards home was left in neglect and was purchased by the Municipality of Metro Toronto in 1955 and became Edwards Gardens in 1956.

The Carolina Wren is easily recognized by the white stripe above each eye and its distinctive "tail-up" posture that it assumes as it flits about the bushes. Energetic and vocal this little wren has one of the loudest songs of any small bird. Males sing their “tea-kettle-tea-kettle-tea-kettle-tea." song hundreds of times a day, all year long. One particularly busy bird was recorded singing almost 3,000 times in a single day!

Carolina wrens form lifelong pair bonds and pairs often stay together for years. The birds move and feed together, where you see one, you will usually see its mate foraging close by. The pair works together to build a nest, which can be in a tree hole or on a branch, but Carolina wrens are well known for choosing to nest in man made structures such as mail boxes, door wreaths, flower pots, or even a cardboard box in a garage. They use sticks, hair, feathers, and anything that looks suitable—even shed snakeskins. They often build multiple nests then select one to raise their chicks.

When feeding, a Carolina wren hops around on the ground and in the underbrush turning over dead leaves, and probing cracks and crannies for spiders, insects and larvae. They also eat fruit and berries, but rarely come to bird feeders.

A female lays 3-4 eggs, then incubates them for 14 days, during which time the male brings her food. The parents feed the chicks in the nest for two weeks, then, after the chicks fledge, the parents continue to feed them for a further two weeks. A pair of Carolina wrens can have three broods in a year.

This wren is the state bird of South Carolina.

I found this one in my backyard. Lake Wales, Florida.

Songbirds are a big commodity in South East Asia. You will find them all over the place, decorating the outside of homes and streets. People take pride in showing theirs off and some can fetch a high price on the market. As sad as it is to see these lovely animals caged away by the thousands, they do add a very nice ambiance to the otherwise cold gas-guzzling street sounds. The white-rumped shama thrush is one such songbird, seen here.

So named because of the appearance of my hair. This is a self portrait left over from a past LGC week. I'll be catching up with this project and others as soon as my exam is over, I promise!

“La cuestión es saber quién es uno, si uno es uno, o los demás —o uno y los demás. Por eso andan perdidos los hombres. Inventan teorías. Pero la verdad está dentro. ¿Qué es adentro, lo que veo y me rodea, o lo que siento? Así andamos, perdidos, de lo uno a lo otro.” - Aforismos en el laberinto- Max Aub

Winter is coming, er, its here. And all I can do is dream of summer. And powder skiing. Its okay to hold two contradictory thoughts at once right? Thought exercise.

From Audubon:

Flocks of Glossy Ibises wade in the shallows of eastern marshes, probing for food with their sickle-shaped bills. Widespread in the Old World, the species is found in the Americas mainly in the West Indies and along the US Atlantic Coast, especially Florida, where it was quite scarce as recently as the 1930s. It may have invaded within the last few centuries, riding the trade winds across from West Africa to the Caribbean.

The mandrill (Mandrillus sphinx) is a primate of the Old World monkey (Cercopithecidae) family, closely related to the baboons and even more closely to the drill.

The word Cosmos in Greek means orderly, beautiful, and ornamental. The flower's fragrance and vibrant colors give it the attributes of peacefulness, wholeness, and modesty. The typical meaning of this flower is 'love flower'.

This flower is often used to illustrate one's deepest feelings of love. When sent to one's love on Valentine's Day it can be said to mean 'walk with me hand in hand' and 'see, life is indeed beautiful'.

Have a happy weekend everyone :))

Moraine Lake is a glacially fed lake in Banff National Park, 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks,

The lake, being glacially fed, does not reach its crest until mid to late June. When it is full, it reflects a distinct shade of blue. The color is due to the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake on a continual basis.

I apologize that I've been away. I got very distracted for the last month pursuing an outside interest. If you're at all curious what that is, read this post on my weblog.

When I am outside listening to bird songs I automatically repeat the song in my head or try to whistle it. When I heard the Olive-sided Flycatcher's song I repeated it a couple times...realized what it was then dropped what I was doing and ran for the camera. No luck, however the other bird I heard came in for a visit with his friend. We had two male Western Tanagers at the studio late yesterday and this morning a female, it is a real treat to see them again.

Rework of a recent picture of this same beach with a marching band. After a while the band seemed to distract from the background so I deleted that picture. This is the newest version with a seal on a rock. I like this one better...for now.

I wish there had been a few high clouds, and snow on the peaks, but oh well, it could have been a lot worse.

The Pugs were outside raising H@*% the other day so I went out to see what was going on. Rocky here was teasing them from the top of the fence. It's a good thing Pugs can't fly.

I was going to take another cliche shot of Frank but I couldn't pass on Rocky.

Late sunset at Pescadero State Beach, just outside of the town of Pescadero in central California. This beach was pretty amazing. So cool to watch the colors of the rocks, pebbles, coastline, and sky turn all different shades as the sun went down.

Jodhpur is the second largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. After its population crossed a million, it has been declared as the second 'Metropolitan City' of Rajasthan. It was formerly the seat of a princely state of the same name, the capital of the kingdom known as Marwar. Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination, featuring many palaces, forts and temples, set in the stark landscape of the Thar desert.

The city is known as the "Sun City" for the bright, sunny weather it enjoys all the year round. It is also referred to as the "Blue City" due to the vivid blue-painted houses around the Mehrangarh Fort. The old city circles the fort and is bounded by a wall with several gates. However, the city has expanded greatly outside the wall over the past several decades. Jodhpur lies near the geographic centre of Rajasthan state, which makes it a convenient base for travel in a region much frequented by tourists.

After the last week of not using my camera much I am now back in action and hungry for new shots. This is what it looks like outside here in germany.

These purple beauties only seem to pop up in the Fall. I took this on our walk back from the park.

This White Ibis was returning to the Rookery at Wakodahatchee Wetlands in the evening light when I took this photo. Not all White Ibis get this beautiful dark red color in the face and legs. We are lucky at this Rookery because you are really close to the birds, in some places maybe 20 feet. Thanks for looking and hope you enjoy the image.
