Vestrahorn Mountain at Stokksnes is one of the main landmarks of southeast Iceland and the most photogenic with it's shapes and colours.

one year ago today, i decided to start a 365 project. i went outside in the wet and cold, put my camera on a car, set the timer, and posed. a remote, 2 tripods (one broke :( ), a 50mm 1.8 lens, a film camera, and a fujifilm instax, here i am. taking a picture a day was so much harder than i thought it would be, but i did it! some days i cheated and posted an old picture, and some days i didn't try at all, but i still had one picture a day for a year.
i really really want to thank anyone who has ever commented/faved/written me a testimonial. they mean so much. i can't believe i've come this far and very much appreciate the support i've gotten.
this may not be my most amazing photo but i'm proud of it.
if you read all that, thank you :)
Not the Carpenters or Earth, Wind & Fire but Great Britain's National Bird, the Robin. This gorgeous Robin wasn't half belting out a tune to rival, or even better, any chart topper at RSPB Old Moor the other day.
The Robin is one of the few birds in the UK that sing all year round. This is due to the importance of holding winter territories. Only for a short period in late summer while they are moulting and inconspicuous do they stop singing. Both sexes sing.
Autumn and spring songs are distinctly different. The autumn song starts after the moult, from late summer onwards. It is more subdued and melancholy in its tone, while the spring song is powerful, confident and upbeat.
The spring song can start as early as mid-December, reaching full force in spring. Its purpose is two-fold: to defend a territory and to attract a mate. Therefore, the spring song is far more powerful in males.

I was lucky it wasn't that cold outside, i still was freezing my fingers off, but it wasn't like -19c more like -3. So i was able to take this picture, without making my hands frozen!

I stopped off here on the way home after work hoping to catch a good sunset. However, the clouds were not in the right place so I took this shot instead. Long exposure of 40 seconds with 10 stop ND filter attached to 10-22mm lens.
Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

I am starting to believe that the snow is gone for the season. Biked in a t-shirt all around Ottawa and found lots of colors peeking from the brown ground. Even the grass is already green and some people were mowing it!
So nice to sit in the sun...
at evening - quite short before diner - i had to go outside, because i saw this fantastic mood on the lake - clouds and sun and wind and water - you can imagine?
...working on the picture, i always had this old song from chris deburgh in my mind: where peaceful water flows...

Taken outside Guymon Oklahoma on May 31'st, this was the third and last image I have of this lightning storm striking the ground. It was an incredible experience being able to watch such a fierce previously tornadic storm such as this, without being rained or hailed on whatsoever.
…and it was indeed dumping larger than golf ball sized hail when I shot this... but only off in the distance under the cell.

Have a nice Sunday!
More and more, I try to appreciate the prairie on an intimate scale as well as a grand one. The diversity and beauty of the plants in a prairie is astounding. In this small plot you can see purple coneflower, coreopsis, prairie clover, round-headed bush clover, compass plant, spiderwort, and prairie dropseed grass. And that's just the plants I can identify. I don't know how the original Midwest homesteaders did it. I could never have put a plow to this.

North American Moose (Alces alces) bull on the trail of a cow during the breeding season or "rut" in the mountain forests of Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada.
The occurrence was just before the twilight period under heavy cloud cover so light was at a premium.

De vroege glazenmaker is een libellensoort uit de familie van de glazenmakers, onderorde echte libellen. Het is een oranjebruine glazenmaker met opvallend groene ogen. De soort is vrij zeldzaam, maar wordt sinds 2000 algemener.

I thought this was so funny - usually it's small things people pick up, but this kid picked a huge branch to take for a walk along the beach :-D
Taken at Himatangi beach, NZ. You can just see Mt Taranaki (one of our volcanoes) on the horizon in the middle. It's on land a long way north of us - the coast gradually curves around to that point.
