Happy Fence Friday!

A slice of rural US, with some craggy mountains on a bright overcast day. That small bit of silver on the right is the north fork of the Shoshone River.

Heaven touched earth yesterday and I was there!

Thanks for sharing the experience,

It's better to be lucky than good. I was heading to meet my friend Andrew, who was kind enough to offer to give me the lay of the land in the Ridgeway, Telluride area of Colorado. We agreed that we would try to connect after sunset, as we were each traveling from another part of the state and weren't sure where we would be at the end of the day. I headed up Owl Creek, not knowing what I would find. Lo and behold it was this scenic point and Andrew!

Foxton Locks are on the Grand Union Canal's Leicester Arm, just outside Market Harborough. The two staircases, both comprising five locks, were constructed in 1814. Here we are looking across one of the balancing ponds towards the old lock-keeper's cottage, which is by the top lock. The cottage and the adjacent former stables to the left (the orange brick building) have now been converted into a tea-room.

Have a great weekend everyone ! Thanks for visit !

Barn Swallows series.

I have been in this barn a few times and it is a beautiful old empty and lonely barn just outside of Guelph ON. I cannot help but wonder who used to live here. There is no farmhouse and only a few neighbours nearby. (I do not know if the fence qualifies)

(side note. It is Jam weekend at the chalet, where playing with some old friends and some alcohol consumption might happen)

This statue outside of the Gandhi Museum in Madurai India seems to also represent today's struggles all over the world. The burdens are great when a few great men step up and try to free the oppressed and to show the way to a kinder world where freedom rather than tyranny rules the world.

I was struck by the lack of sharp defined features on this statue. It is as if it represents many men! Such a humble way to depict the man who fought against the might of a empire.

The lost little oyster boat near Appalachicola Bay. I mainly like the colors in this image. I think I will keep coming back and record as nature reclaims this prize.

Más menos una hora más tarde de la foto anterior, la luz que se cuela por la ventana y lo que veo me hace agarrar la cámara y regresar a la playa.

I just got back from spending a week and a half with some very good friends of mine in Northern Virginia. This is the ninth year that we have have made the trip as a family, and we have always had a great time. In addition to hanging out with our family friends in Virginia, I usually try to grab a day or two to spend with some of my photo buddies on the East Coast. One of those buddies is George Fletcher, who happens to live just a couple of houses down from our friend's home. George is a fantastic photographer, and I am always bugging him for new locations to shoot while I am out there vacationing. So two weeks ago, George dropped by at 4 AM and we set off for Great Falls Park, which is located on the Potomac River. Great Falls is operated by the National Park Service and the main problem that we faced as we arrived was that sunrise was scheduled for 5:30 AM but the park didn't open until 7:30 AM. We ended up parking outside of the park and hiking back in, arriving just as the sky began to light up. For more background and tips for shooting in Great Falls Park, feel free to check out today's installment of The Resonant Landscape at:

Here's wishing everyone a happy American Thanksgiving. And for the rest of you--have the kind of day where you give thanks for all that you have. It's a wonderful world out there--if you take the time to see it.

The siskin is a small, lively finch, which is smaller than a greenfinch. It has a distinctly forked tail and a long narrow bill. The male has a streaky yellow-green body and a black crown and bib. There are yellow patches in the wings and tail. It is mainly a resident breeder from southern England to northern Scotland, but is most numerous in Scotland and Wales.

On May 30, 1539, a well-known Spanish explorer

that would change the world. Hernando De Soto

came ashore on or near the south shores of Tampa

Bay. He began his expedition of the southeastern

region of the United States, encountering Native

Americans and hard times as he passed through this

beautiful territory. He died on May 21, 1542, and his

At the middle of February the weather changed to mild and mainly sunny in East Westphalia. A touch of spring has reached nature and the people. The countryside shows a light green, the moles make their way to the soil surface and the people enjoy their spare time in open nature and the more courageous ones even have their first drinks outside in the beer-gardens. Looks like the battle is won...

The Venetian Arsenal at Gouvia is a shipyard built by the Venetians during their rule of Corfu on the west side of what used to be called Govino Bay, the current location of the modern village of Gouvia.

The remains of the old arsenal still exist at the Bay of Gouvia, and are located approximately 8 km from Corfu Town.

The Venetians used the bay as a port and their arsenal was built near the water. The Venetian shipyard features three arched docks which were used to service their two fleets which were stationed in Corfu. The columns, walls and arches of the arsenal survive almost intact but the roof is missing.

The use of the arsenal was officially discontinued when the Treaty of Campo Formio, which was signed on 18 October 1798, signalled the end of the Venetian Republic.

Admiral Ushakov landed his troops at the site of the arsenal and created a military camp there during the Siege of Corfu in 1798. The arsenal also functioned as a base for the French in 1917–1918.
