I watched this black-crowned night heron perch over the ponds at Gilbert Water Ranch. He might have finished his grooming if he knew I was going to crawl through the bushes to snap a pic paparazzi attack style.
As always, thanks so much for stopping by.

The only one of the twenty species of armadillo to live outside of Latin America, the Nine-banded Armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus) makes its home throughout much of the southeast. This adorable one—with three of his friends—trundled across my path sniffing for insects with its spade-like nose. With their horrible eyesight, armadillos tend to rely on their sense of smell to figure out what is around them. I found this to be the case even with this chap, who came up to my sneaker and sniffed it before realizing that I was not a tree stump (or humungous and delicious beetle, perhaps).

It's funny here in the South when snow or Winter weather is forecast. This happens once or twice in the Winter season every year with anywhere from 5 inches to a foot of snow. The grocery stores sell out of bread and milk the day before it hits, all the schools close. Everyone except emergency workers hospital staff etc stays home. It's a party.
The roads are very dangerous ice snow ice combinations. The highways get salted but cars in the ditch just stay where they are until it melts. Usually in 5 or 6 days but the highways are clear in 3 days, ploughs are scarce down here. Then it's over until next time, a brilliant mini Winter break for most and Southerners take full advantage. The mountains get a lot more snow but even there it's inconsistent. Suits me fine unless I have to work and then it's no fun at all. Hospital staff that drive from outside Charlotte often are stuck at the hospital for a few days if they are scheduled a few days it a row. Not me I always go home even if I'm coming back next morning. I want to sleep in my own bed it sucks staying at the hospital for days. Those white knuckle rides let you appreciate being alive, nerve wrecking but not very busy. Slow and steady gets it done. :-)
Thanks for your visit. :-)))
The net is overflowing with great pictures from Panamint/Death Valley. Ofc I took a lot of pictures on my trip to this earea, but instead of adding just another similar-looking picture, I desided to do som PS up front and presented my way. The scene is real, I have just altered the colours. If you want to see the valley in it's original colours, just google it:-)

A salute on Memorial Day
In honor of those who sacrificed and gave All for our freedoms.
"The Alaska Veterans Memorial is an outdoor memorial grove in Denali State Park in Interior Alaska. The memorial honors Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Alaska National Guard, and Merchant Marine veterans from Alaska, as well as specific Alaskans who were awarded the Medal of Honor. There are also small memorials to the passengers and crew of military plane crashes in Alaska. The site was selected because of the scenic beauty of the area and its location between Alaska's two largest cities. On a clear day visitors can see Denali from just outside the memorial." Wikipedia
This was taken in back in December.... one of the best days we had over winter :)
It had snowed so much that I was afraid to take my good camera out (it was like a blizzard) so I just used my phone for this one... the scene was magnificent as I peered through the trees and into the winter wonderland behind... this is my favourite forest park - Parkanaur, just outside Castlecaulfied in County Tyrone.
The sun is actually out today - so far so good :)
Thank you for your visits and for the lovely comments on yesterday's Coal Tit Photo :)
Have a great Thursday everyone, weekend is just around the corner yippee

"Western Gateway Park is located on 13 acres. The park is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. daily. It incorporates a concept of a mix of green space and buildings, private and public spaces, and old and new. It includes the following buildings: Central Library, Pappajohn Higher Education Center, Arlington-Hallet Apartments, and the Temple for the Performing Arts.
Western Gateway Park is a joint effort of the City of Des Moines and the business community and serves as a catalyst for redevelopment in downtown Des Moines. This park is in the heart of the new mixed-use district and is a memorable entry into downtown as well as an attraction for the entire community."
"In September 2009, the Des Moines Art Center and the City of Des Moines partnered to open a 4.4-acre sculpture park in the heart of Downtown Des Moines. It features 28 works of art donated to the museum by John and Mary Pappajohn from their renowned collection of contemporary sculptures."

The muted rumble of the ocean and the wind whistling through the sea oats are the only sounds as a cold front rolls across the beach and heads east over the ocean. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend.

Whilst bouncing up and down on the boat and returning to the mainland this cormorant (I think) came swooping down. Rather than duck (no pun intended) I grabbed this one shot and even though it is clearly out of focus it has a certain something that I find quite likeable.
