Suilven is not easy to believe. it's grotesque outline keeps popping into view unexpectedly whenever one walks or drives around Lochinver, appearing as a giant thimble...A sudden sight of it is startling. It arrests attention.
I’d file this one under “classic” snowflake, but there really isn’t such a thing. We might have preconceptions about what a snowflake should look like, and this kind of crystal likely comes to mine. What our imaginations cannot provide, however… is the level of complex details hidden within. View large! (press the "L" key to view in Lightbox mode)
This was a small crystal, like yesterday’s snowflake. Measuring about 1.5mm in diameter, many of the observable details are only a few microns in size (1 micron = 0.001 millimeters). Even at such a small size, there is colour, geometry and symmetry to enjoy throughout.
The center of this snowflake is a nifty feature, it reveals that this snowflake is part of a “twin”, the other half is behind the main surface, barely visible in the center. This crystal began, as many do, as a “capped” column, and only one of the “caps” (plate crystals that grow on either side of the column) grew to a fully-fledged snowflake. The other plate remains a miniscule button, starved for water vapour and unable to grow any larger. The lines radiating out from the center are also evidence that this snowflake was once a “sectored plate”. Many snowflake types overlap!
Snowflakes like this capture our imagination… but why? I believe it lies somewhere between geometry and symmetry, in the balance of patterns. While each and every side-branch of this crystal is distinctly unique, they all seem to “belong” to the greater structure. They all have similar characteristics and a similar “feel”, as each side-branch is created by very similar environmental conditions - but not completely identical.
Of course, photographing snowflakes like this can be a daunting task. 34 separate frames were used to get every piece of sharp details, and the final pieces of the puzzle are difficult to fit together. Over time (even over a few minutes), a snowflake will begin to sublimate. The crystal begins to evaporate from solid ice actively as I’m shooting it, and the difference from the earlier frames makes it very difficult to properly blend in later frames. There is some artistry involved, but it’s more tedious that anything. About four hours of editing was done on this snowflake, which is the average for crystals of this nature.
The editing process is time consuming, but not overly difficult if you understand the proper steps. It’s all outlined in the book Sky Crystals, where roughly one third of the 304-page book is dedicated to the photographic techniques and workflow. Journey with us through Webb’s breathtaking view of the Pillars of Creation, where scores of newly formed stars glisten like dewdrops among floating, translucent columns of gas and dust.
If this majestic landscape looks familiar, you may recognize the original. Hubble first captured the Pillars of Creation in 1995 and revisited it in 2014. Webb’s latest view was taken in near-infrared light, which is invisible to our eyes. Seeing in infrared allows Webb to pierce through the dust and reveal stars galore.
In this image, compare and contrast the Pillars of Creation as seen by Webb and Hubble. On the left here is Hubble’s iconic view, taken in visible light in 2014. On the right is Webb’s new near-infrared view. (Also find a high-res of just the Webb image here on our Flickr!)
Why go back to where we’ve been before? Webb helps us identify far more precise counts of newborn stars, along with the quantities of gas and dust. Good Evening, since while i am editing and posting this image here, it is presently 11:06 p.m. Tonight The Shoe Adventure, take you on an afternoon of fun (confusing, isn`t it) to the Shiver on the River event. This annual event is held on Belle Isle. Here you have found my feet in my chunky shoes at the base of Scott`s fountain. As you see, the fountain went through a restoration project in the year 1988. I like how the etched letters are lined in snow. Lovely isn`t it? Yes, a chilly, cold day. Detroit, Michigan. February 3rd, 2018. An afternoon with Dan.

one of my first books, which i inherited from my uncle, that introduced me to history is "outline of history" by H.G. Wells. first published in 1920 through to 1950. My book is the 1950 edition and it outlines history from earth's beginning till the end of world war 2 in 1945.

Der große Überblick und das zweite Leben.
Jeder Mensch hat zwei Leben. Das eine im irdischen und das andere im jenseitigen Bereich. Der materielle Bereich ist das Reich des Goldes. Der träumerische Bereich ist das Reich der Überirdischen, genauer, des Überirdischen. Überirdische sind erst einmal Außerirdische. Und davor sind es mediale Menschen. Und davor Menschen, die am Überirdischen, das heißt am Metaphysischen interessiert sind.
Kornkreise beispielsweise sind auf der irdischen Ebene Manifestationen des Überirdischen oder der jenseitigen Welt. Botschaften aus dem Jenseits, welches natürlich von Außerirdischen bewohnt wird.
In grauen Vorzeiten empfing der Mensch Botschaften von den Ahnen, von den Geistern, dann von den Göttern, von den Engeln und Dämonen und nun sprechen die Ahnen von damals durch die medial veranlagten Menschen von heute und kleiden sich zeitgemäß als Wesen aus dem All.
Die Tiefenpsychologie hat Götter, Geister und Dämonen aus den dunklen Wäldern und von den lichten Berggipfeln geholt und als wirksame Motivationskräfte, als archetypische Kräfte in der Psyche etabliert.
Sündenbock Projektionen an den Sternenhimmel oder auf andere Menschen gehen nicht mehr, vielmehr geht es um die Selbsterkenntnis des eigenen inneren Pantheons von Antriebskräften.
Die Götter wohnen nicht mehr auf dem Olymp. Eros ist eine Kraft in mir selbst, die mich ergreift und antreibt, bis ich nicht mehr weiß, wer ich selber bin.
Häufig werden Verliebtheit und Verrücktheit miteinander verbunden. Wer schon einmal verrückt nach jemandem war, hat gespürt, was es heißt, vom aktivierten Liebespfeil Programm ergriffen zu sein. Amor überwältigt noch den hartnäckigsten Menschen.
Zu den Hits im irdischen Bereich zählen auch Antriebskräfte wie Eitelkeit und Habgier. Eitle Selbstdarstellung mit Markenjeans, IPhone und Sportwagen blühen mit der Habgier nach Gold. Vor nahezu jedem Börsengebäude werden ein Bär und ein Stier abgebildet. Das heißt, dieser Bereich hat mit irdischen Emotionen zu tun. Die Antriebskräfte gelten nicht der Entwicklung des Geistes. Und ein Kontakt zu höheren geistigen, das heißt überirdischen Ebenen wird auch nicht ersehnt.
Christus betonte, sein Reich sei nicht von dieser Welt. Und Buddha machte klar, dass Samsara und mit ihm das Ego (die Ich-Funktionen) durchschaut werden müssten. Schließlich sind es die Ich-Funktionen, die Antriebskräfte, wie Zorn und Wollust, die den Geist an bestimmte Ebenen der Erfahrung binden. Die samsarische Ebene klebt an niederen Instinkten.
Doch mit spirituellen Übungen, wie zum Beispiel Meditation oder Yoga, können die Ich-Funktionen erkannt und überwachsen werden. Alle spirituellen Schulungen zielen schließlich darauf ab, das Ego durch Selbsterkenntnis zu transzendieren, damit die Seele mit ihren höheren Funktionen wieder in Kontakt kommt.
Das Ego ist dazu da, gut geerdet Erfahrungen im Alltag zu sammeln um dann, angetrieben von einer starken Sehnsucht zum Aufstieg auf den Gipfel, den Kontakt zum Göttlichen wieder zu erlangen. Auf dem Gipfel der Selbsterkenntnis offenbart sich das Geheimnis der eigenen Göttlichkeit.
Kinder Gottes sind Abbilder Gottes. Der Sohn Gottes ist mit dem Vater identisch. Die Aussagen der christlichen Mystiker sind eindeutig: Gott ist dir näher als dein eigener Herzschlag. Du selbst bist Gott.
Doch für das irdische Bewusstsein ist Mystik unangenehm, denn sie erlöst die Seele aus ihren triebhaften Bindungen. Gerade an den Gelüsten aber möchte die Seele teilhaben, allerdings nur so lange, wie die Last und der Schmerz an der Lust nicht zu groß werden.
Großer Schmerz sucht im Himmel nach Erlösung, und auf diese Weise beginnt die Heimreise. Natürlich liegt der Himmel in dir. Natürlich in mir.
Seeligkeit gehört zum spirituellen Bereich, eben jenem, der darauf aufmerksam macht, dass der Tanz um das Goldene Kalb stets schmerzhafte Blasen an den Füßen und dogmatische Verkrampfungen im Geist erzeugt.
Anfangs macht es Spaß, der Eitelkeit und der Wollust zu folgen. Auch der Wille zum Sieg, zur Macht gibt einen echten Kick. Doch jede Karriere findet auf dem Boden der Tatsachen statt, ganz handfest, etwa im politischen, sozialen oder wirtschaftlichen Alltag. Gold wird in Samsara erworben. Der eine raubt es dem anderen.
Das als Wettbewerb bezeichnete Raubrittertum wird für die Opfer (die Sklaven) allerdings immer unerträglicher und daher sind gerade sie es, die einen Weg aus ihrer unbequemen Situation suchen. Und dieser Weg führt zu Lösungen aus den Verstrickungen.
Die Fragen werden geklärt: Was bindet mich? Welche Kräfte lassen mich tanzen? Und wenn all die damit zusammenhängenden Fragen geklärt und die notwendigen Erfahrungen gesammelt sind, wird auch der Gipfel der Pyramide erreicht und mit diesem ein vollkommener Rundumblick, der schon immer mit dem göttlichen Bewusstsein assoziiert wurde.
Über die Pyramiden nahmen antike ägyptische Priester Kontakt zu den Göttern, den überirdischen Kräften auf. Durch vom Himmel erhaltene Botschaften regierten und verwalteten sie ein reiches Land. Der Pharao selbst war überirdischen Ursprungs, ein Gottkönig. Und der Hohe Priester hatte Kontakt zum Jenseits, den Stimmen aus dem Reich der Ahnen, der Götter, der Außerirdischen.
Das Außerirdische ist das Reich der Magie, die Welt des Wunderbaren und der Träume. Fantasie, Inspiration, Freude und Leichtigkeit sind im Himmel zu Hause. Und dieser Himmel liegt in dir. Und natürlich in mir.
Jeder kann an seinem zweiten Leben wieder teilhaben. Wenn er bereit ist, den Weg der Selbsterkenntnis zu gehen.
