Fireworks photographed from the back porch. Morgan County, Alabama. A neighbor just outside the city limits (I think) put on a wonderful fireworks display. A couple of images for Flickr. Surely wished I would have been more prepared and could have captured their beauty. From rabbits to squirrels, dragonflies and butterflies - never know what I will see. I hope you have had a pleasant day.
San Agustin Beach, Gran Canaria
Two shirtless guys stride across the dark, volcanic sands of San Agustin beach in Gran Canaria, one clutching a bright yellow ball ready for some impromptu play, the other dangling neon flip-flops as they head back to their colorful setup—a pink umbrella shading towels and bags against the jagged rocky backdrop. The sun beats down on their tanned skin and intricate leg tattoos, capturing that effortless island leisure where games and relaxation collide.

Just as we were ending a stroll in the park, I noticed a man carrying two Easter baskets. Then I saw a couple of eager children waiting for the "go" signal to hunt eggs. Right before my eyes was this orange egg. . . . just could not resist getting the shot.
The Camel Park originated in 1998 as a camel farm but the love and care of the family owners for animals welcomed several other animals as well. Today, the park is a home for more than 100 animals, including ostriches, goats, deers, ponies, wallabies, lamas, alpacas, lemurs, turtles, fish, a lot of birds and our 60 camels, that each of them has its own name and character.
In the steady gaze of the horse shines a silent eloquence that speaks of love and loyalty, strength and courage. It is the window that reveals to us how willing is his spirit, how generous his heart
It’s practically impossible to look at a penguin and feel angry - Joe Moore
It was World Penguin Day on Monday, and I missed it. But I have a few snaps to share, including a penguin hug. Better late than never.
//World Penguin Day takes place during the annual northern migration of Adélie penguins, a species of penguin that is native to Antarctica. Adélie penguins migrate north to have better access to food during the winter months when the sea ice expands and then, during the summer, return to the coastal beaches of Antarctica to build their nests.
This annual celebration of penguins was created at McMurdo Station, an American research center on Ross Island. Researchers noticed that the Adélie penguins began their migration around this day each year, and so they founded World Penguin Day as a way to mark the occasion and raise awareness of these creatures.
While the day originated from the Adélie penguin’s migration habits, it celebrates all species of penguin and highlights the plight of these water-loving creatures. Of the 17 or so species around today (the total number of species varies depending on how you classify them, but there are at least 17 and possibly as many as 20!), sadly 10 of them have been deemed endangered or vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and 3 are considered near threatened.
Penguins spend up to three quarters of their lives out at sea and are reliant on the oceans for food. Overfishing and pollution such as plastic and oil spills therefore pose a real threat to these birds and have contributed to decreasing populations, which in turn has a knock-on effect on the wider ecosystem. And for those species based in the Antarctic (the emperor penguin and the Adélie penguin), climate change is shrinking the sea ice, which not only impinges on their habitat but can also impact chick hatching times and the availability of food.//

Have you heard?
Apparently he's happy because scuttlebutt is Jack Sparrow has been vindicated. But he is also sad as the Captain says he won't return to a life of piracy, not for 300 million pieces of gold, and not even for a million alpacas.
(Hey, I can have my flights of fantasy too!)

Last Saturday we had the Rilings over ... cooked out steaks, played bocce ball, stayed up till it was dark enough for the wild bunch to play "Monster" (which is their own form of hide-n-seek tag played with flashlights) and camped out in the backyard.
