The Cumberland Valley Subdivision was built by the L&N in 1911 in order to reach coal reserves in Harlan County, Ky. 113 years later, the classic L&N paint scheme that debuted in the 60's returned to the line for the first time since it phased out in the creation of other railroads such as Family Lines, Seaboard, and CSX. Though it was a short visit, this teaser marked a significant moment for the history and heritage of the CV. Not today, but maybe someday we shall see this beauty make it into the heart of Loyall.

Norman origins in the c12th.
The church boasts a rare c17th three-decker pulpit, with the lowest level historically used by the Parish Clerk for responses during services, and the upper levels for scripture reading and sermons.
A possibly Saxon font, unearthed in 1893, now resides in the church.
The building contains two galleries, one for church musicians and another potentially for the parish's poor or charity school children. Two private pews catered to local estate residents, and the church is equipped with unusually long hat pegs for the era's fashionable tall hats.
The churchyard is also the final resting place of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, adding to the site's historical significance.
