3-4 October, 2023, Rabat. The UfM Workshops on Rules of Origin were held in Rabat on October 3 and 4, 2023 to impart knowledge of trade regulations to both government and private sector stakeholders in Morocco. Organised by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) with the support of the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), they provided insight into rules of origin, including the new transitional rules, and information on specific Harmonized System Codes relevant to various industries operating within pertinent trade agreements. Deputy Secretary General Dr. Abdelkader El Khissassi from the Economic Development and Employment Division represented the UfM at the event, while Ms. Alicia Figueroa was there from GIZ.
More than 58 people participated in the workshops that were divided into two distinct sessions, one for government officials and another for private sector representatives. The government-focused training module provided responsible staff officers with a deeper understanding of the conceptual and legal aspects of rules of origin to facilitate stakeholder consultations during trade negotiations. Moreover, rules of origin handbooks were developed and practical coaching sessions were conducted to assist both government and private sector participants with understanding and applying these rules effectively.
The training sessions progressed from the fundamental concepts of rules of origin, with a focus on the new Transitional Rules of Origin, to the more specific aspects of the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention and its relevance to both preferential and transitional rules of origin. Additionally, they served as an occasion to present new administrative procedures and product-specific rules of origin under the Transitional Rules of Origin and provide an update on new administrative processes.
Practical case studies drawn from various countries and economic sectors, covering different product types, were employed to illustrate how the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention operates in diverse scenarios. Participants engaged with these case studies and had the opportunity to resolve them with guidance from the instructor, gaining a deeper understanding of the correct application of rules of origin.
Given the inherent complexities of rules of origin, these sessions helped stakeholders comprehend the practical nuances of this critical aspect of international trade. Active interaction with the instructor fostered discussions and an exchange of ideas, with a question-and-answer sessions concluding each workshop ensuring that participants left with a more solid grasp of the topics covered.

The solid main shaft has a twist detail and sits on a tripod base with matching legs. Surmounted by a dual candlestick holder that is adjustable and has animal head details. Topped by a brass finial. Sono attualmente 610 i dottorandi di Pavia, 59 stranieri. L’Università di Pavia ha attivato 26 corsi di dottorato di ricerca, organizzati in cinque Scuole, coordinate dalla prof.ssa Guglielmina Nadia Ranzani: Scienze umanistiche, Scienze e Tecnologie “Alessandro Volta”, Scienze dell’Ingegneria, Scienze sociali e Scienze della vita “Camillo Golgi”. 18 corsi prevedono una co-tutela internazionale e la partecipazione a progetti di ricerca in cooperazione con enti di ricerca e Università di tutto il mondo.
Paolo Matthiae insegna Archeologia e storia dell'arte del Vicino Oriente antico all'Università di Roma La Sapienza, dove è stato Preside della Facoltà di Scienze Umanistiche e Pro-Rettore. Ha intrapreso gli scavi di Ebla nel 1964 e tuttora li dirige. È accademico dei Lincei, di Francia, d'Austria, e di Svezia. Ha pubblicato numerosi libri e articoli relativi a Ebla e alla storia dell'arte della Mesopotamia e della Siria in genere; in essi, partendo dall'esperienza condotta sul campo, ha intrapreso una revisione critica del ruolo storico della Siria nel quadro delle civiltà del Vicino Oriente. Autore di un'ampia Storia dell'arte dell'Oriente antico (Electa 1996-2002), che sta completando con un quarto volume, ha scritto numerosi saggi soprattutto sull'arte dell'antica Mesopotamia. Tra le sue opere piú recenti, oltre Ebla. Un impero ritrovato (Einaudi 1977, 1989, 1995), si ricordano Prima lezione di archeologia orientale (Laterza 2005), Gli Archivi Reali di Ebla (Mondadori-Sapienza 2008) e Ebla. A popular theory of the origins of the name "white rhinoceros" is a mistranslation from Dutch to English.
The English word "white" is said to have been derived by mistranslation of the Dutch word "wijd", which means "wide" in English. The word "wide" refers to the width of the rhinoceros' mouth. So early English-speaking settlers in South Africa misinterpreted the "wijd" for "white" and the rhino with the wide mouth ended up being called the white rhino and the other one, with the narrow pointed mouth, was called the black rhinoceros.
Ironically, Dutch (and Afrikaans) later used a calque of the English word, and now also call it a white rhino.
