Tasting Britain got the invite down to Blessing’s Wine & Cocktail Bar in Spitalfields, London, to see what Abdulla Amin and Hugo Toland (AKA ‘Origins Of’) are all about. Londoners and friends of 20 years, this is Abdulla and Hugo’s first 'kitchen takeover’ - and as far as I can tell they’re strongly Middle Eastern inspired; flatbreads, falafel (etc). Abdulla started getting the ideas for a lot of these dishes when out in Afghanistan, and a few of the recipes (such as the 'hummus and pickles') have been handed down from his family on his mother’s side. That’s about all I can say about about the food having only had the chance to try a little of it - this place was uh…heaving.
As for Blessings - it’s a converted 3 story townhouse, cafe by day, bar by night and not so far away from Brick Lane or Spitalfields Market. Each floor gets used! The basement bar is perhaps the liveliest of them all, hosting live music and DJs at certain times of the week, on the first floor above this is Phil’s Bar (I am told that Phil is one of the owners…) - Phil’s Bar is a little more relaxed than below, full of comfortable sofas, chesterfields., and something they’re calling ‘a vintage den’ - great views of The City from there. Above that is the roof terrace, which is probably the strangest roof terrace I have ever seen - yes that is a bike embedded into the wall (...I’ll let the photos do the talking).

This photo means a lot to the entire family. Some of the people I've never seen. Some of the stories I've never heard. Nevertheless, this photo could last as long as my family grows, and to forever.

The "I was acquitted" refers to the defamation charges. On the cultivation charges, which were filed in Aug. 1993, I ended up spending four months in Pine Grove, September 1995-January 1997. .
This experience definitely qualified me as an "expert" in injustice.
We went to the Agrado Farm in Quindio district on the Central Cordilleras in Colombia. It was an amazing experience in every way!

This is a collection of the pictures pre-nikon. I used a panasonic lumix to take this group of pics.
Origin: United States. Circa: 1850. Period: 19th Century. A fine and ornate cast Iron wood burning parlor stove profusely decorated overall with foliage and flowers, the center door with an open pierce work swan, and cattails & backed with "Eisenglas" & a rouge marble top, in the manner of Johnson, Geer, & Cox. These boats (bagang/suluk origin) are built larger and longer in comparison to the one secured around it. It can maneuvoured easily and braved heavy sea conditions to and from across the nearby islands.
Origins is now recycling old make up containers & these are empties are what I was able to find in my makeup case.
-2 VERY old origins lipsticks (do they even still make the cases like these?)
-old foundation tin
-dried out eyeliner brush (the refills are no longer being made)
-an old black eyeliner tin
I threw a bunch of stuff out awhile ago, but now that Origins is doing the recycling I know better than to do that! Everyone pleaaase recycle!
The Origin of Fossilized Stones
Stone Rissani is famous for the fossils contained within it from the Primary Era. It is mined in the Moroccan Sahara near the town of Rissani (from which it derives its name). It is a fossilized marble rock, containing mainly cephalopods, which only appear if the stone is polished. Otherwise the fossil merges with the stone. The rock is very hard; it has a coefficient of zero capillary. The age of the fossils are dated to the Upper Devonian Period (about 360 million years). A majority of the fauna within the rock is made up of goniatites, ammonites, orthoceras, corals, and trilobites. Iron oxide and carbonate deposits give the rock its black color.

Roma - Tota Italia. Alle origini di una nazione. Scuderie del Quirinale (06/2021).
Le Scuderie del Quirinale riaprono con una mostra di grande rilievo culturale e simbolico “Tota Italia. Alle origini di una nazione”, realizzata con la Direzione Generale Musei del Ministero della Cultura, e curata da Massimo Osanna e Stéphane Verger.
La mostra nel titolo riprende la famosa formula del giuramento di Augusto, l’uomo che per la prima volta unificò l’Italia in un territorio omogeneo. Un’unificazione sotto il segno di Roma, ma che al tempo stesso manteneva quella divisione in regioni che ancora oggi testimonia la ricchezza e la varietà delle nostre tradizioni.
La mostra racconterà questo complesso processo di unificazione - che fu scontro, incontro e ibridazione tra culture - attraverso i reperti e gli oggetti più significativi, partendo dalla straordinaria ricchezza dell’Italia preromana, affascinante mosaico di genti e di tradizioni, e ripercorrendo le tappe che, dal IV secolo all’età giulio-claudia, la condussero a essere unica sotto le insegne di Roma. Con una narrazione coerente e unitaria, libera sia dall’assoluta centralità di Roma sia dal rischio di una visione regionale, sarà possibile ammirare nella stessa sede espositiva le opere più significative di quella varietà espressiva che concorse alla formazione dell’Italia augustea e dell’Impero.
Gli eccellenti prestiti che costituiscono il corpus della mostra testimoniano l’importante patrimonio dei Musei Nazionali presenti sul territorio e racconteranno il costituirsi della nostra identità culturale, le radici del nostro Paese rievocandone anche la ricca pluralità sociale, etnica e culturale.
