It took me more than a year before I found the right moment to visit this old train. It is situated on an active rail site where a lot of trains pass by.
After we did a location early morning we decided to pay the Orient Express a visit.
One thing's for sure: They don't make trains like these anymore!
Big sofa's inside the carriage and a lot of space. Made to travel in the most convenient way. Until you check the area where the engineer aka train driver did his job. A big dieselmachine right behind the steering weel and big pipes throughout the room, probably filled with hot fumes or liquids when it was operational. A big contrast to the confortable carriages in the back.
Of these dieselelectric trains only three were built in the 1930's and this piece is the only one left....

Op 23 juni 2021 ging de Oriënt Express voor een perspresentatie naar station Haarlem. Blij was ik te horen dat de rit via Uitgeest bleek te gaan, waardoor de trein op vele locaties kon worden vastgelegd. Na Zaandam werd de trein ingehaald tijdens de stop in Wormerveer, waarna de doorkomst in Krommenie-Assendelft op film werd vereeuwigd.
Na Krommenie werd snel richting Uitgeest gereden voor een foto van de trein op de goederensporen van het station die binnenkort het veld zullen gaan ruimen voor een nieuw eilandperron. Na deze foto's werd opnieuw in de auto gestapt richting Santpoort Noord waar het geheel voor de laatste maal werd opgewacht.

La Chiesa di Saint-Nectaire è giustamente considerata una delle più belle chiese romaniche dell'Alvernia. Fu costruita sotto l'impulso dei monaci benedettini della Chaise-Dieu nel XII secolo (forse addirittura nell'XI, a seguito di recenti scavi). Danneggiata durante la Rivoluzione, fu classificata come monumento storico nel 1840 e restaurata dall'architetto Bruyère nel 1875. Costruita in trachite lavica e tufo poroso, misura 38 metri di lunghezza, 11 metri di larghezza e 20 metri di altezza sotto la cupola. Anche se piccola, con la sua posizione sul Monte Cornadore, domina l'intera valle e il talento dei suoi costruttori conferiscono all'edificio una certa monumentalità. La sua pianta è abbastanza tipica dell'arte romanica dell'Alvernia: due torri di facciata, un nartece, una navata di 4 campate, due navate collaterali, un transetto con cappelle orientate, l'abside con un deambulatorio con tre cappelle radianti. I capitelli policromi, in particolare quelli del coro, costituiscono uno dei più notevoli complessi di scultura romanica. Questi capitelli istoriati erano come un libro aperto che offriva ai fedeli una forma di catechismo monumentale. Tra i temi illustrati a Saint-Nectaire: diverse scene della Passione di Cristo (arresto, flagellazione, via crucis), trasfigurazione, moltiplicazione dei pani, il cavaliere dell'apocalisse... Uno dei capitelli del coro racconta la storia di Saint-Nectaire, evangelizzatore della regione. Tra i capitelli della navata: l'asino con la lira, Mosè salvato dalle acque. Il tesoro è composto, tra le altre cose, dal busto di Saint-Baudime e dalla Vergine in Maestà di N.D. del Monte Cornadore. Le vetrate sono del XIX secolo. A última vontade de um nobre, de ilustre ascendência e brilhante carreira militar no Oriente, promoveu a construção de um convento franciscano situado em plena serra de Sintra, em contacto direto com a natureza e de acordo com uma filosofia de extremo despojamento arquitetónico e decorativo.
O Convento dos Capuchos, também conhecido como “Convento da Cortiça”, foi fundado em 1560 por D. Álvaro de Castro, conselheiro de Estado do rei D. Sebastião, com o nome de Convento de Santa Cruz da Serra de Sintra, e entregue a frades arrábidos franciscanos, em resultado do cumprimento de um voto de seu pai, D. João de Castro, quarto vice-rei da Índia.
Notável pela extrema pobreza da sua construção e pelo uso extensivo da cortiça na proteção e decoração dos seus pequenos espaços, materializa os ideais da Ordem de S. Francisco de Assis: a busca do aperfeiçoamento espiritual através do afastamento do mundo e da renúncia aos prazeres associados à vida terrena. De dimensões reduzidas, o convento foi edificado no respeito pela harmonia entre a construção humana e os elementos naturais pré-existentes: a construção divina. A sua rusticidade e austeridade são indissociáveis da vegetação envolvente, numa integração total com a natureza, até ao ponto de incorporar na construção enormes fragas de granito.
A mata que rodeia o edifício foi, durante séculos, acarinhada e mantida pelos religiosos que o habitaram, tendo sobrevivido à gradual desflorestação da serra de Sintra. Constitui, assim, um exemplo notável da floresta primitiva da zona, cuja composição florística o visitante pode identificar no percurso botânico proposto. Pela sua raridade, estado de conservação e porte de muitos exemplares, esta mata representa um significante valor natural que importa salvaguardar.
A exiguidade dos espaços, corredores e portas do convento, a humildade que se sente perante a intimidade e o despojamento do local, a penumbra do quotidiano destes religiosos e as belas vistas desta vertente da serra de Sintra que ali se podem observar, são experiências únicas que impressionam, há séculos, todos quantos aí se deslocam.
Em 1581, Filipe I de Portugal (II de Espanha) visitou o eremitério tendo, nessa altura, proferido a célebre afirmação de que, em todos os seus reinos, os dois sítios de que mais gostava eram o Escorial, pela sua riqueza, e o Convento dos Capuchos, pela sua pobreza:
De todos mis reinos, hay dos sitios que mucho estimo, el Escorial por tan rico y el Convento de Santa Cruz por tan pobre.
Abandonado em 1834, com a extinção das ordens religiosas que o regime liberal determinou, foi adquirido em 1873 por Francis Cook, primeiro Visconde de Monserrate, e em 1949, pelo Estado português.

Po třech letech, zpátky Orient Express. Orient Express je luxusní vlak, který jezdil v Evropě od 19. století a propojoval západní Evropu a Balkán, jeho jednotlivé zastávky a stanice se napříč stoletími měnily.
Vlak vyrazil v letošním roce z Česka pouze v termínu 8.10.2022 z Prahy do Paříže. Na fotografii máme v čele Ragulina 232 209-7, který byl jako HV z Chebu, dále do Německa.
