El Bund o Waitan (en chino, 外滩; shanghainés, nga3thae1; lit. «playa exterior») es una zona junto al río y un distrito histórico protegido situado en el centro de Shanghái (China). La zona gira en torno a una sección de la Zhongshan Road (East Zhongshan Road n.º 1) situada dentro de la antigua concesión internacional, que discurre a lo largo de la orilla oeste del río Huangpu en la zona este del distrito de Huangpu. Al otro lado del río se encuentran los modernos rascacielos de Lujiazui, en el distrito de Pudong. El Bund usualmente se refiere a los edificios y muelles situados en esta sección de la calle, así como en algunas zonas adyacentes. Desde la década de 1860 hasta la década de 1930 fue el rico y poderoso centro del asentamiento extranjero de Shanghái, que funcionaba como un puerto abierto protegido legalmente.
The Bund is a waterfront area and a protected historical district in central Shanghai. The area centers on a section of Zhongshan Road (East Zhongshan Road No.1) within the former Shanghai International Settlement, which runs along the western bank of the Huangpu River in the eastern part of Huangpu. The area along the river faces the modern skyscrapers of Lujiazui in Pudong. The Bund usually refers to the buildings and wharves on this section of the road, as well as some adjacent areas. This region has a significant European influence, with the style of many structures most comparable to that of European cities, particularly Gothic, Baroque, Neoclassical, Romanesque, Art Deco, and Renaissance architecture. Additionally, some of the city's top eateries are located there. From the 1860s to the 1930s, it was the rich and powerful center of the foreign establishment in Shanghai, operating as a legally protected treaty port.

Amtrak P42DC No. 92 leads a 15-car American Orient Express through Riverton, Utah on August 2, 1997. I was surprised that day to see a luxury cruise train powered by a single locomotive.
Op zaterdag 26 oktober 2024 bracht de Venice Simplon Oriënt Express (VSOE) weer een bezoek aan Nederland. Normaal gesproken worden deze ritten al maanden van tevoren aangekondig. Dit was voor deze rit echter niet het geval omdat het geen regulier bezoek was maar een gehuurde rit voor een wereldster. De trein was namelijk afgehuurd door Katy Perry om haar 40e verjaardag luister bij te zetten en zo konden vele genodigden in stijl naar (hoe kan het ook anders) Amsterdam reizen om het feestje mee te vieren.
Helaas was de aankomst tijd van de VSOE in Amsterdam halverwege de middag en dus werd het fotograferen van deze fraaie trein op een mooie herfstdag een uitdaging. Eigenlijk stond de zon nergens echt goed en de foto werd ‘even’ tussen de bedrijven door gemaakt. Daarom besloot ik om de VSOE bij de bekende brug in Gouda op te wachten. Toevallig kwam er vlak voor doorkomst een visser aangelopen om in de Gouwe zijn hengeltje uit te gooien. Op mijn verzoek was hij berijdt om tijdens het maken van de foto te blijven staan. Met de Lineas 186 292 op kop passeert de fraaie trein met rugnummer 13416 (Esn-Asd) de fotograaf richting Amsterdam. De visser blijft ondertussen stoïcijns naar zijn hengeltje staren want je weet nooit wanneer je beet hebt.

Puente Viejo / Usina de Oriente
Un verdadero testimonio de las obras que se desarrollaban hace casi un siglo atrás, se encuentra en Oriente, en el Partido de Coronel Dorrego y a orillas del Quequen Salado.
Se trata de la Usina que perteneció a la empresa Hidroeléctrica del Sud, y nos refleja el sabio aprovechamiento de las ventajas que ofrecen las energías renovables para generar energía eléctrica.
Este emprendimiento encarado que abasteció inicialmente a una compañía de cementera, "El Triunfo" posteriormente se extendió por el excedente que generaba, a las localidades Oriente y Copetonas durante más de 60 años, con instalaciones que eran únicas en toda la provincia. Por el mismo lugar cruzaba el puente ferroviario (Ramal DeFerrari/Coronel Dorrego Construido en 1910) los cuales estaban sostenidos por columnas de más de 6 metros de alto que todavia estan intactas. y otro carretero por el cual pasaba la Ruta 72 construido en 1912.
Roberto Brunand, dueño del establecimiento y poblador de aquella zona, obsesionado por ofrecer un buen servicio, sin cortes de luz. Según relatos: dormía con el velador encendido toda la noche para saber de inmediato cuando se registraba un inconveniente e intervenir en el menor tiempo posible. La planta hidroeléctrica contaba inicialmente con 2 turbinas, hasta que una gran crecida del río provocó importantes daños en la represa y destruyó parte de las instalaciones en 1919, lo que llevó a depender de motores diesel en su reemplazo.
La usina finalmente dejo de funcionar a mediados de la década del '80, y se presenta en la actualidad como otro legado histórico más en la región, fruto de pioneros visionarios que en nuestros tiempos aun seguirían vigentes.

A true testimony of the works that were developed almost a century ago, is located in the East, in the Coronel Dorrego Party and on the banks of Queque Salado.
This is the power plant that belonged to the company Hidroeléctrica del Sud, and reflects the wise use of the advantages offered by renewable energy to generate electricity.
This endeavor, which initially supplied a cement company, "El Triunfo" was later extended by the surplus that it generated, to the Oriente and Copetonas localities for more than 60 years, with facilities that were unique throughout the province. The factory finally ceased to function in the mid-1980s, and is currently presented as another historical legacy in the region, the result of visionary pioneers who in our time would still be in force.
Le lac d'orient situé sur les communes de Mesnil Saint Père, Lusigny sur Barse et Géraudot dans le département de l'Aube s'appelle aussi réservoir Seine.
C'est un lac artificiel qui permet d'absorber les crues de la Seine et prévenir les innondation sur les villes et aval... Paris entre autre. Il se remplis au printemps et est vidé progressivement a partir du mois d'août.
Il est actuellement vidé à 80% et les oiseaux se rassemblent autour des marres restantes pour se ravitailler en poissons.
Orient Point Light is near the eastern-most tip of Long Island. The birds roosting at the base are probably cormorants. We did not get close enough to identify them.
Op Dinsdag 22-6 zou voor het eerst sinds jaren de Venice Simplon Oriënt express naar Nederland komen.
Doordat de trein vanwege stormschade in Zwitersland enige vertraging opliep, Was het niet te doen.
Woensdag zou er een persmoment in Haarlem zijn. Aangezien ik vrij was gokte ik daarop. Helaas moest er gewerkt worden waardoor ik om 13:56 alweer weg moest uit Spaarnwoude. Gelukkig vertrok de trein precies optijd en passeert hier een redelijke groep fotografen als 70459 naar Watergraafsmeer.

Please forgive the grainy Kodak 110 print scan! I took this photo circa 1981, on a tour of O'Hare Airport with my Boy Scout troop. Our tour guide was with Eastern Airlines, which shared the old D Concourse with Northwest Orient, in addition to Continental, Piedmont and Braniff. In this view, a NWA 727-200 is being turned for another flight as a DC10 pushes back for departure. The tail of a NWA 747 can also be seen over the DC10, at the old International Terminal. Both the D Concourse and the old international terminal were razed a few years later to make room for United's current terminal. Mark Ratzer photo.
