We had a very pleasant yumcha at the old Oriental Tea House in South Yarra, back when it was tucked in a small shop in a lane perpendicular to Chapel Street, so when I heard that the Chadstone store was open, I decided to give it a try.
Perhaps my expectations were too high. Or perhaps, it was just passing off cheap Chinese dimsum to Aussies who didn't know better, Asian and Caucasian alike. The clientele on the opening weekend was quite evenly split between Asians and Caucasians, lured in by the breezy indoor-outdoor dining areas, bright reds and contrasting black decor, and a distinctly Asian but modern decor.
The selection of teas are quite impressive. Tea is served in glass teapots to be shared. You can also order tea individually in mugs made of a 紫砂 deep purple porcelain, the traditional material for 紫砂壶 Chinese teapots.
Food-wise, it's a disappointment. That's not to say it is not good, but the asking price of a 特点 "deluxe" dimsum being AUD8.90 you'd expect something special. Instead, what we get is a floury and chewy filling in the 带子烧买 scallop siumai dumpling. A distinct indicator of it being undercooked. Most other yumcha places serve "deluxe" dimsum at half that price.
Before we entered, Julia exclaimed that a 烧卖 siumai pork dumpling or 虾饺 hargao prawn dumpling, a "regular" dimsum, was AUD5.90. That was almost grounds for us turning tail and heading to a nice cafe. But it is better this way, rather than be tempted every time we walked past.
Being an equal oppurtunity employer meant that we had waiters and waitresses of all races, althought predominantly Asian. Being used to dimsum names in Cantonese, hearing the mangled English translations was a bit though. Guava-flower fried prawn wonton 石榴花云吞 is a mouthful in anyone's language. Just call a wonton a wonton.
Still, Oriental Tea House seems to draw crowds at both its South Yarra and city stores, which points to a shrewd business owner understanding that the ambience and price-point is "acceptable" for the locations it is in.

sister's 11th birthday..
Off to Lubeck, Northern Germany on wednesday on german exchange, hopefully it will give me the oppurtunity for lots more photos! :)
Had the oppurtunity to ride the brand new Haro ramps with the entire team two weeks ago. It was really rad getting to ride and hang out with guys like Nyquist and Nasty. I'm going to start uploading photos that they aren't using for their catalog. As of right now they are using a photo I got for the cover so I'm really stoked. These ramps were hard to shoot because you're either shooting into the trees which means you can't see the rider very well or you're shooting at the warehouse which isn't a great background. Tell me what you think on this one.
This is Colin Mackay bustin' a Table while Mikey Babbel, Marcus Tooker, and Nasty are watching from the table. Nyquist and some other guys are in the back as well. Basically Colin is one of the coolest dudes ever. Got to have breakfast with him and Nyquist which was one of the sickest things ever. haha
Also you should follow me on twitter:
And check out this short video I shot for Haro with my Camera:
FYI, This photo is resized which I don't usually do. It looks really blurry viewed in large but I promise it isn't. I accidentely messed up the saving on about 10 photos and lost the larger edited files. Might go back and redit them to view on flickr in a better large version.

An eagle scavenges on an elk carcass on the National Elk Refuge. Though it's difficult to see in the photo, the eagle is unique because it's missing its right leg.

Martin Ortiz, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, aims in with his competition rifle during a practice relay at the 2013 Marine Corps Trials at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., March 3, 2013. Ortiz said he's enjoyed meeting new people, trying new things and getting the oppurtunity to compete at the trials this year. The Trials is an opportunity for wounded Marines, veterans and allies to compete in wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, track and field, swimming, archery and shooting. The top 50 athletes will go on to compete against wounded warriors from the other branches of military service at the Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colo., in May.

I got on this bus in Leyburn to change for the Wakefield 870 at Otley.
It was a marvelous 2 and 1/2 hour journey through the northern and southern part of the Dales. There were plenty of sights that were new to me via bus. There was a very kind gentleman who is a regular on the service who pointed out all the different landmarks.
I took the oppurtunity to take a photo 1420 whilst it was sat waiting time in Pately Bridge.
The extreme weather conditionsthese past few weeks in Northern Ireland leads to many extremely good photo oppurtunities. This one lasted only a few seconds. The one I took 10 secs before & 10 secs after this one, did not show the colours that can be seen here.
Shot with Kat at the House of Nightmares Group shoot on 11/29/08. It was a blast doing this set in a dark, cold, and dirty basement. If anyone ever has the oppurtunity to work with Kat.... Do NOT pass up the oppurtunity!
Shot with a Nikon D300, 17 - 200 MM VR lens and a SB800 flash. I used 2 Britek 1500 watt strobes (1 behind an umbrella diffuser and the other as a main with umbrella) to balance out some light in this dark warehouse basement.

Seriously, everywhere I turned was another image oppurtunity. This happened to be just in time as I the light had just turned green right when I saw how small the car was. Texas on the other hand would probably have a truck twice the size of the guy in front. I thought it was pretty cool to see an actual mini this size or in this case a Daihatsu Copan.
Also I tend to post photos from the other side of the bridge on my Facebook (link above) in which I don't believe they don't fit on my Flickr. If you wish to check those out follow me on there too!

I went driving to the Amish country to buy some organics. I met these Amish kids were walking at 18 degrees (oF) from school. Look at them! their faces full of contentments! no complain of whatsoever. Do you think we could live the same way they do?

140525-GW695-009 NEW YORK -- Girl Scout Hearts of the Hudson visited service members and dropped off cookies during Fleet Week New York. The week long celebration is an unparrelleled oppurtunity for the citizens of New York and the surrounding Tri-State area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today's maritime forces. My better half doesn't much care for taking photos so I had about 5 minutes before he would begin to lose his patience. I'm happy with it :) I love being able to take my own portraits, I can shoot it when I want, how I want, and where I want.
Nice decor in the Food Republic food court of Vivo City. I'd seen it in zelciia's Food Republic Food Court photos, so of course it was worth a visit.
I loved how they made use of traditional building materials, including dark stained wood, roof tiles, lanterns, all in the traditional dark browns and bright reds.
Plus, it gave up more oppurtunities to continue our hawker food safari!

Everynow and then I have a ride down Claro Road to Emsleys yard on the off chance that there may be somthing new in the yard or maybe a photo oppurtunity worth grabbing.
On January 6th I was well chuffed...... Clearly there was a big job on early Monday morning as Liebherr LTM 110-5.2 200 tonner KF02NUU was parked outside in the road along with her support truck...... the companies fantastic Scania R620 V8 "Topline" STGO Cat 3 & Brohus 5 Axle ( Self Steering ) Trailer waiting to depart Monday and perfect for a few fots there and then....... I happen to really like this particular crane...... you could say she was a favourite of mine.
I might have a slight obsession with pink when it comes to my bike, and there's no shame in that. So you know that when @panaracer_world rolled out "cranberry" Gravelkings I had to get a set. Being the frugal cyclist that I am, I waited until I had ridden through (quite literally) the existing classic black set that had a good 6000 miles worth of rides. After a flat on my ride to Monroe last week, the time had come.
Props to @jeffitz.revolution over at @revcyclesmadison for ordering them and many thank you's to the crew over at @blacksaddlebikeshop for the tubeless install. Just in case you see my Midnight Special around the town, I'm probably lurking somewhere close by wearing something pink don't be afraid to seek me out and say hi.
