Wij hebben er óók zin in!

Centrepiece of Oslo's rapidly developing waterfront, the magnificent Opera House (2008), reminiscent of a glacier floating in the waters of the Oslofjord, is considered one of the most iconic buildings in Scandinavia. Conceived by Oslo-based architectural firm Snøhetta, its design is a thoughtful meditation on the notion of monumentality, the dignity of cultural production, Norway's unique place in the world and the conversation between public life and personal experience. To fully appreciate the building's interior, join one of the guided tours.

It's worth spending some time here, but if you don't have long, make sure you tackle the roof, a broad luminous 'carpet' of marble patchwork (all 36,000 blocks of it), wonderful views of the city included. It's one of those architectural experiences that's worth far more than the sum of its parts.

While wandering around the building, it can be easy to forget that it's not just there to serve as eye candy for tourists, and that its prime role is to act as a showcase for top-notch opera and ballet performances. Upcoming performances are listed on the website and ticket prices vary from 100kr to 745kr.

Oslo's Opera House is located right at the harbour, with an angled, white exterior that appears to rise from the water. It invites its visitors to climb its roof and enjoy panoramic views of Oslo and the fjord, all year round.

Large-scale windows at street level provide the public with glimpses of rehearsals and workshop activities. The building's interior is mainly oak, and the main hall is shaped like a horseshoe, reminiscent of classical theatres of the past. The opera is designed by the Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta, and has received several prestigious awards.

The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet offers a rich and varied programme from three stages: The Main House (1369 seats), Second House (400 seats) and the Studio (200 seats). The Opera roof and foyer are also used for concerts.

Guided tours available in Norwegian and English.

Sydney Opera house detail. No way you can make an original photo of this building. It has been photographed soooo many times. But with a piece of architecture this great, who cares?

Serse opera, a co-production with Baldwin Wallace Opera and Cleveland Opera Theater with guest director and conductor Timothy Nelson, hailed by Opera News as "The future of opera." Channeling the style of Rumi and building on the concept of a Persian folk-love story as narrated by a poet, Nelson will create and lead this world-premiere adaptation of Handel's "Serse."

This exciting production will feature a cast from the Baldwin Wallace Opera program, a chamber orchestra, costume design by Esther Haberlen and scenographic design by Matthew D. McCarren. Sung in Italian with English narration, "Serse" will have an approximate 90-minute duration.

This is the first Baldwin Wallace Opera production to be produced under the leadership of Scott Skiba, the recently appointed director of opera studies, and Jason Aquila, the recently appointed opera music director.

The opera in three acts tells the story of Serses, the King of Persia, who is engaged to Amastre, but he really loves Romilda. Unfortunately, his brother, Arsamenes, and Romilda are already in love. To confuse matters further, Romilda's sister, Atalanta, is secretly in love with Arsamenes. Add a bumbling servant, and it looks like all the lovers are doomed to be separated. However, love prevails and all rejoice as they return to happiness.

The Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts centre at Sydney Harbour in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is one of the 20th century's most famous and distinctive buildings.

Address: Bennelong Point, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia

Construction started: March 2, 1959

Founded: 1973

Architect: Jørn Utzon

Sydney Opera House sits on Bennelong Point. Bennelong Point was named after Woollarawarre Bennelong, a senior Eora man at the time of the arrival of British colonisers in Australia in 1788.

The original cost estimate to build Sydney Opera House was $7 million. The final cost was $102 million and it was largely paid for by a State Lottery.

233 designs were submitted for the Opera House international design competition held in 1956. Jørn Utzon from Denmark was announced the winner, receiving ₤5000 for his design.

Construction was expected to take four years. It took 14 years. Work commenced in 1959 and involved 10,000 construction workers.

Sydney Opera House was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2007

There are more than 1 million roof tiles covering approximately 1.62 hectares sitting over the structure. They were made in Sweden.

Seven A380s could sit wing-to-wing on the site.

Sydney Opera House was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 20th October, 1973. She has since visited four times, most recently in 2006.
