Another shot from the cab in Montego Bay, in sharp, but unfocused contrast, to the gal a few streets away. This morning I was wondering how to create a single word link to another photo rather than the cumbersome and unsightly URL thing. Thank-you ratsj for such fine directions on how to create a hyperlink.
The Gold Hill General Store is open for business, more reflections and mail. The exact meaning of RFD is a bit confusing up here. If "city" mail is delivered here will you find the town fathers doing business at the store? Gold Hill residents have to pick up their mail on Main Street. It's clear that mail delivery up at Gold Hill is pretty crusty. I wonder if Rainbow Bread can still be found inside? I notice there is a bench and a picnic table for outdoor dining on mellow days. I wonder how many days aren't mellow up there?
I was wandering on Main Street Street in Gold Hill while eDDie was chatting with someone down the street. The aspen trees in the sun on the other side of Main were gold and still largely green on this side. A "lode" of opportunities exist up and down the handful of streets up at Gold Hill; this is yet one more. I expect the historical designation is responsible for most of the ambiance not withstanding new roofs, replacement windows and steel doors. Often lumber mills arrived at booming camps early and provide construction lumber but not much has been covered with the the pestilence of vinyl siding.
Gold Hill is a remnant of the oldest Colorado mining days and I caught sight of this shot of the intersection of Lickskillet Gulch Road and Horsfal Street at the main intersection. Horsfal becomes Main. To say Gold Hill tops a mountain ridge is accurate with the road east and west rise slightly while Lickskillet, north to Lefthand, and Gold Run, south to Boulder Creek, drop off the sides of the ridge. The Horsfal Lode was the earliest (1859) mine in Gold Hill and was responsible for the earliest development. That's even before they salted a mine for Horace Greeley. As Wiki puts it: Gold Hill is accessible from nearby Left Hand Canyon Road via Lick Skillet Road, the steepest county road in the United States. It IS safe in first gear IF you have good brakes. It seems that we barely manage the project.
Gold Hill has lasted for decades through the original gold boom, the second gold boom, the silver boom and its 1893 demonetization and finally the return to reliance on gold mining and processing. It has never completely died and is not accurately, a ghost town. It's history of transportation was a bit tortured considering one route was Lickskillet. I assume most transportation was to and from the Gold Hill Railway Station when the Switzerland Trail rails were laid west on its way to Ward. The steep sides of the canyon originally meant the road up from Boulder had to ascent the canyon. Old Gold Hill still lives on in this century-old mining camp. The narrow gauge route was never built from old Hill Station (see the map). It continued to cling to the foothills above Boulder.

There might be new snow on the mountains but March is within sight and so is spring. The WARM WEATHER / HAPPY TIMES NEWS, IDEAS AND GOSSIP SHARING CARPORT is all spiffed up and ready for visitors! Six people stopped by for a bit of a chinwag today.
The sign said "El Granero" so I decided to poke further and walked around the old barn where a window was open. I originally wanted to shoot some of the collection of old horse-drawn farming implements (whether I recognized them or not) by the old barn I captured previously. (In the Photo Set) I wandered around the barn and especially to the back that I have not looked over before. Here is a detail of the old barn. I suspect that he didn't store grains in here because it looks like he designed it so he could feed hay directly from the barn. Back in the day, this barn might have housed Coffin's horses that allowed him to work the land and join Chivington and participate in the Sand Creek Massacre, an event that some silt heads defend to this day. He was determined to eliminate the Indian threat if not the tribes themselves. I wonder how he would stand on the illegal immigration and if he would put up bronze bilingual plaques on his old barn. That is not Eddie praising Chivington, he created his own tribute, in a his own fashion!
I can only assume that because the barn was built on a concrete knee-wall that it was in the flood plain and precaution was taken. It survived last September's flood too. It has stood the test of time! There were gravel pits across on the south of the river and last year's flood rolled through them and left a real mess. The bridge is there but the terrain on the other side is gone. Even I remember floods (only one fairly monumental one) that might have crept up here. Along the tops of the cliffs, cactus perches on the last of the parched, pseudo soil; fertile valley floods created this pasture. Perhaps the climate deniers caused last year's flood.
Mikey! You didn't tell us you had found the perfect (free) place to open your photography business. This looks like a great little fixer upper. I think the wind must have blown your business sign loose. You may want to straighten that a little.
Congrats on your new place! I'm sure you will have lots of business!
If you aren't familiar with Mike Jones (lucky you).....you can see his crappy photos here.

Chinatown is being redeveloped - the old buildings demolished and new condo's going up. There is an effort to save some of the classic 3-4 story buildings. In spite of the razing and rebuilding, the business is still going on.
After Jack and I had been searching through thick undergrowth for a few hours, we half-decided to give up and head for the big hollow that we could follow out. Thunder was getting louder and the sky was getting darker.
We headed directly west and as we descended an outrageously steep hillside into a tight angled ravine, we realized that we had, in fact, been one ridge further east than I'd realized the entire time. I knew this had to be the place.
There was no sunlight down here even without clouds. The walls were very steep and the canopy high and thick. The moss was thick over fallen logs, rocks perpetually damp, and there was carpet of sassafras on the banks.
We followed the creek upstream and directly into the cave we'd been looking for. None too soon either - we hadn't been inside for more than a minute when the thunderheads pounced over the ridge, trying to take us by surprise.
We waited out the storm from inside before making our way up the steep, slick, muddy sides to the top, (where there was no evidence of what lie beneath), and over the ridge toward supper.

NX Coventry Volvo B7RLE/Wright Eclipse Urban 2145 passes by on Tower Street heading for Bishop Street. Yesterday this was a scene of chaos as cars blocked the road - but some sort of order has been restored today (Sunday 23 September 2018). Presumably lots of parents driving and dropping-off their student offspring - the University even had staff with trolleys assisting others with their various bits and pieces today.
Don’t forget Devon is still open for business and there are still plenty of heritage railways operating as they start their summer program once more.

I'm proud of this guy...........long story for another day!
About the pic, I was given the opportunity to shoot the photos for a magazine article on a new Tattoo shop for a national publication.
While it's not TIME magazine, it's a start : ).
This was from a shoot that took about 10 minutes..........I don't know if I'm entirely happy with what we've got.............Maybe go back tomorrow for a second helping!

Near the Wisconsin state line on I-94 coming out of the Chicago area. The "Open For Business" inscription refers to the perceived anti-business climate in Illinois. Wisconsin has been recruiting businesses to move out of Illinois.
