This particular lodging was a challenge. Not going back. But the red carpet and curtains and almost bordello-like feel does look picturesque in a certain light.

Title: Elizabeth Evans Baker Peace Chapel
Other title: Open-Air Peace Chapel, Peace Chapel
Creator: Lin, Maya Ying
Creator role: Artist
Date: 1988 (started) 1989 (completed)
Current location: Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, United States
Description of work: The Elizabeth Evans Baker Peace Chapel (originally named Open-Air Peace Chapel by Lin) occupies a 14-acre site in the 170-acre Baker-Henry Nature Preserve near the Juniata College campus. Lin was drawn to two areas: a large hilltop that was the center of the site, and a densely wooded secluded ridge that was several hundred feet away that had a view of the other site. Those two sites are considered gathering places, one public and one private. She designed a 40-foot diameter circle of rough granite stones embedded in the top of the hill for the larger public space, and a 4-foot diameter smooth granite disk that is embedded at the top of the ridge which was to be a private meditation area. A series of 24 polished granite steps lead from the footpath to the circle of stones. The Peace Chapel was created through the support of Elizabeth Evans Baker and John Calhoun Baker (Juniata Class of 1917). (Source: Lin, Maya. Boundaries. New York: Simon and Schuster, 2000.)
Description of view: Middle distant view of the larger site of the installation. A woman is seated on the stones to the left with trees and mountains in the background.
