I'm so thankful for my health. Five years ago right after my father died I was diagnosed with Scleroderma (and over the years also added on Sjogrens and Raynauds, woo-hoo a three-fer, I'm getting a t-shirt ;)). There was a time where I thought I wouldn't be here to see my then 2yr & 5yr olds grow up, much less be where I'm at today.
But the Lord is good and merciful, so far it would appear I have the non-life threatening version. And through the grace of God I am here living a full life, able to function, care for my family and knit.Yes, knit -the scleroderma caused my fingers to curve indefinitely so that I can't open or close them all the way, sort of looks like arthritic hands. Today it's more of a nuisance than anything else! I took up knitting 5yrs ago but it was just too difficult and sometimes painful. But hey, look at me go now :D
I only say all this to raise awareness of a lesser known autoimmune disease and to encourage anyone who might be living with it that there is help and there is always hope.
PS.- thanks to my photo/knitter friend Debbie who helped me figure out this pattern since I'm a newbie :)

when I finished processing this I couldn't help but think of Rachel from Blue Algae Creative. I love her work, I guess it sometimes influences my work :) Hope she doesn't mind.
“Remember to be gentle with yourself and others. We are all children of chance and none can say why some fields will blossom while others lay brown beneath the August sun. Care for those around you. Look past your differences. Their dreams are no less than yours, their choices no more easily made. And give, give in any way you can, of whatever you posses. To give is to love. To withhold is to wither. Care less for your harvest than for how it is shared and your life will have meaning and your heart will have peace.”
Kent Nerburn quotes (American Author, Sculptor, Theologian and Educator. b.1946)

"The scenery on approaching the Cumberland River becomes still grander....Burkesville, in beautiful location, is embosomed in a glorious array of verdant flowering hills. The Cumberland must be a happy stream. I think I could enjoy traveling with it in the midst of such beauty all my life." - John Muir
