this polaroid SX-70 onestep camera floated into my bedroom and asked to be mine. i graciously accepted, and we are now friends. it lives beside my bed with its brother, SX-70 land camera.
please note the disgustingness that is the interior of my closet.

Subject Taken: Kodak Instamatic X-15 (with used flash cube)
Welcome to my, chronologically, 5th project, or my 4th assigned project this year. From this point forward, this will be known as my 4th project of the year. I was assigned this project with a completely different idea back in early December 2016. Unfortunately on December 15, I broke my wrist in an accident. As a result, I wasn’t able to work on it for almost 2 months. Not until February did I really began to work on it, due to complications with the injury (not being able to develop because of my cast), I decided to work on my 5th assigned project, The Memorial Project Q2, instead of The Unnoticed Camera Project. After completing The Memorial Project Q2, I dove right into this one. At this point my cast was already removed and I could develop film again! Originally I had intentions of capturing random things in my house: my toilet, my sink, my desk, etc. Although, after think about it for a month, I decided to do my own camera collection.
The project was originally titled The Unnoticed “Roll-O-Film” Project; however, I decided to change it to The Unnoticed Camera Project as it’s more specific to the project. Before that, however, it seemed kind of vague. Anyway, I’m proud to present The Unnoticed Camera Project. I will not be talking about every image individually, I might talk about a few, but I’m going to keep it very general, for there are about 12 images! This is possibly the biggest project I’ve ever worked on since The Musical Photo Project from Photography II.
In this project, I captured my own camera collection. I think I have about 18 cameras at the most in my collection. I didn’t even capture them all either! I chose my top 12 most favorite cameras in my collection to take. I shot the project with “premium” on my side. I shot the images with my favorite point and shoot, the Olympus 35RC. This small 35mm camera takes really awesome quality shots, and it’s in great shape despite it being roughly 40-45 years old! At our school, our teachers nicknamed it Dennis Rodman. Anyway, I chose to shoot on Eastman XX-5222 Black and White Motion Picture film, I love the balanced contrast it yields, and it’s perfect for shooting in mostly sunny environments, for it’s 200ASA film. Not only did I want to capture my collection, buy I wanted to capture the details on the camera that most people would over look: hence the name “Unnoticed.” When people shoot with cameras in general, they don’t care about the look or the design of the camera when they use it. The main idea I had for this project was so I could get people to stop and take a look at a camera and admire its design, whether it’s ugly or a work of art. People don’t have the time to stop and take a moment to appreciate the camera that they use, I do it a lot. I’ve met people who have cameras, and they only see them as a utility overall. Anyway, it took roughly three weeks to edit all 12 images. Basically I removed any dust/dirt particles that had accumulated on the negatives in Photoshop. Then after cropping the images, I added the vignette layer on top of them. The vignette layer was sort of an afterthought addition. After about the third or fourth image, I felt they could use something more, so I added vignette to them. Overall that’s all I really have to say about the project. I really appreciate you for taking the time to check out my work. I’ll see you next time in my first 3rd quarter photo project! I am, however, going to leave you with a list of the 12 images and what camera was used in each of them.

looking through old family photos. this is the reason why i still love printing all of the photos i take. someday, my nieces and nephews will want to look through old photos and they'll have boxes of physical pictures to flip through
Polaroid SX-70 OneStep SE (Polaroid Land Camera), PX 100 Silver Shade film by The Impossible Project (expired 2010). 13 May 2011.
A few weeks ago I found a Craigslist ad for a OneStep SX-70 selling for $10. The listing read South Seattle and the seller said I could either meet him at Frye's in Renton where he would be shopping with his dog or or he could come downtown and meet me in my neighborhood and he would walk the dog while he was up here.
Downtown is perfect!, I said! ;-)
The Saturday before the Oscars we met at the corner of 7th and Stewart, right in front of the Starbucks (which is, by the by, oddly enough closed on Saturdays...but I digress).
He was a very tall man, perhaps 6.6, husky and very handsome. If it wasn't because of this perfect English diction I would have thought he was a Siberian Russian, black leather coat included, sans the fur hat.
Anyway, he was walking down the street with a beautiful brown and white very friendly boxer. We shook hands and he handed me a camera case.
I asked if it was okay with him that I could film test the camera. I attached one of my stick-on ND Filters, inserted a brand new package of 600 film--that I had just shaved the little bottom nubs off at home-- and pointed it toward the court house.
He made a comment about how prepared I was. :)
We made small talk while the exposure developed and presto change-o we had lift-off. I handed him the $10 bill not before he added that inside the case was the original owners manual and purchase card along with an unused package of 600 film he bought when he first got the camera but never got around to using it.
We said goodbye and from there I went up to the party shop at the corner of Olive and 7th to buy my Oscar ballon for the party.
I finally got around to trying the expired film. This is one of the shots, taken last Monday morning from the sunroof of my car at the little elbow corner behind Seattle Center and the QFC, on my way to Panda Lab to drop off some film.
Yes, I'm a sucker for expired film. I'll give it ago and whatever comes out of it I'm always happy for it. So far I've shot seven out of the ten exposures. They've all been expelled from the camera in various stages of developing. Of these seven, there are at least 3 more prints with images recorded on the paper--with bits of undeveloped edges. I'll upload them later this week.

SX-70 Sonar Onestep Black (refurbished) ::: Fade To Black
Photoshop: Removed white edges and adjusted levels.

One of the most famous of all rigid-bodied SX-70 cameras, the Polaroid Onestep Plus was released in the late 1970's as an alternative to the incredibly expensive folding SLR SX-70 cameras.
It features a single-element, fixed focus lens, an electronic shutter, programmed auto exposure and a socket for flashbars or electronic flash attachments. Most importantly, it features the iconic rainbow stripe.
This one is shown with the matching 'Q-Light' electronic flash. This flash, purchased seperately, allowed you to use the camera indoors or at night time without the need to buy the bulb style flash bars. Although the Q-light is desirable due to its matching rainbow stripe, they are actually a very unreliable flash unit for use these days, as they do not stand the test of time very well. Many of the Q-light flashes today are broken, due to previous owners leaving alkaline batteries in them, which leak and corrode the electronics. Many of the flashes that do still work suffer from worn, leaky capacitors, meaning the flash can take ages to charge, and will chew through batteries very quickly.
