The black-capped chickadee (Poecile atricapillus) is a small, non-migratory, North American songbird that lives in deciduous and mixed forests. It is a passerine bird in the tit family, the Paridae. It is the state bird of Massachusetts and Maine in the United States, and the provincial bird of New Brunswick in Canada. It is well known for its ability to lower its body temperature during cold winter nights, its good spatial memory to relocate the caches where it stores food, and its boldness near humans sometimes feeding from the hand.

Solitary or in pairs in breeding season. Monogamous, displaying male spreads tail and wings, bows to female. They come to my small dishes of grape jelly to feed on and bathe in my birdbaths.

The red-bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) is a medium-sized woodpecker of the family Picidae. It breeds mainly in the eastern United States, ranging as far south as Florida and as far north as Canada. Though it has a vivid orange-red crown and nape it is not to be confused with the red-headed woodpecker, a separate species of woodpecker in the same genus with an entirely red head and neck that sports a solid black back and white belly. The red-bellied earns its name from the pale reddish blush of its lower underside.

Ruby-throated hummingbird hanging out at the home feeder. Background is the neighbor's off-white house. Cropped from a horizontal frame. I used Dx0 Photolab 3 to clean up the noise from the high ISO then camera raw to open the shadows.
