On a warm evening, this one was shot while the bird was flying down from a tree, where it had its nest with its little ones, to the water below for food. All the trees had several nests and each nest had hatchlings.

This bird belongs to the genus Haemorhous, together with the purple finch and Cassin's finch. These three species are not closely related to the similar Old World Carpodacus rose finches, although formerly included in that genus.

A North American River Otter coming ashore with a fish in his mouth on South Beach, Olympic Peninsula, Washington State. Although common in Washington State in ponds, lakes, river sloughs, estuaries, bays and open water along the coast, they are seldom seen.
Having adapted to suburban areas, Cardinals visit backyard feeders regularly and sometimes take food from the hand. Forages in trees, bushes, and on the ground. Eats insects, seeds, fruits ans snails.
