An insert advert in the April 1929 issue of Gebrauchsgraphik, the German magazine for "promoting art in advertising". Issued by the Berlin printer Hugo Sensch to mark the company's 50th anniversary this really is a superlative piece of offset printing as the scan 'hides' the quality of the paper and printing in the real thing. The company was based in Köpenicker Strasse 113, Berlin SO 16. Sadly the artist "KW" is not given a full name.
Two ink colors were printed on Environment PC100 120# Cover to make this great card designed by Ian Lynam for creative upstart Upswell. Multimedia for causes and culture? You've got us sold!

The booklet "DUST SNOW" is a record of the Winter Sculpture Park project taking place on a winter's day in Wilson Park, Poznań. Piotr Łakomy, who conceived the idea of DUST SNOW, defines it as follows: "Imagine a white cube which is a sculpture park, an open space of a park which is a white cube. DUST SNOW is a project without a budget and opening and closing dates. The ephemeral nature of DUST SNOW will make it turn to dust before the snow melts.”
The photos documenting the project are accompanied by a text written by Sebastian Cichocki.

This is a "Four Color Press". Forms (covers) and signatures (interior pages) are fed into the feeder (not seen in this photo) the forms/signatures then pass through each of the inking stations from right to left. First black then cyan followed by magenta and ending with yellow.

Vance Reeser makes animated films, creates images, crafts websites, and writes a blog. He so expertly filled up this Scout Book with some amazing character sketches–and a collage treat at the end. Not to mention the first time we've ever seen the Scout Book used as a mask! Bravo, bravo Vance! Great innovation. Great sketches.
Find Vance's work here, on his website. One project we're particularly intrigued by is a short animated film Vance is creating called the Beast of Black Lake. He used Kickstarter to fund the project but is still accepting backers to help propel the project towards completion.
We're pretty sure we'll be seeing loads of great stuff from Vance in the near future.

Description: Food label for Kraft pure groundnut oil showing two colour images; one of eggs, sausages, bacon and steak cooking in a frying pan and the other of a bowl of salad. The wrapper includes uses for groundnut oil and reads ' Kraft pure groundnut oil the light touch for frying. Salad dressings. 454ml. 16fl oz. Printers' notes read 'Reduce 3 to 2 and supply 1 set combined line and half tone positives for offset printing.

Further Notes: Original artwork created by Smith & Ritchie. Smith and Ritchie were established in Edinburgh in 1853. The firm were multi colour offset printers who were specialist suppliers to the food packaging industry. They were located at Amphion Works in Albert Street. In 1963 Smith & Ritchie became the first printing company in Scotland to use a gravure press and produced reel fed work up to five colours. Smith & Ritchie moved to Livingston in 1986 and in 1991 became the first printing firm in Scotland to use a 10 station gravure press.
Smith & Ritchie have subsequently moved out to Livingston and survive today as Amcor Flexibles S & R. Amcor are originally an Australian company and now have operations in 36 countries around the world specialising in many printed products of which the food packaging that Amcor Flexibles S & R is one.
History: Smith & Ritchie were located at 71 Albert Street, Edinburgh.

Chad Kouri loves paper. I might go so far as to call him The Collage Master. His work incorporates vintage ephemera, letterpress printing and found objects, which makes for a body of work that is at once tangible, nostalgic and visually spectacular. Find a bursting portfolio of Chad's work online at Long Live Analog, much of which lives happily in the interesting realm of digital-meets-analog. Geek out over projects such as his papercut desktop wallpaper for Kistune Noir, or his iPhone cases wrapped in digitized artwork of hand-cut vintage graph paper. Whoa.
Chad's Scout Book boasts a fantastic touch-and-feel, cut-and-paste quality. It makes me want to touch my computer screen.

These Scout Books are HOT!
Mt. Hood Community College’s Integrated Media Program recently had it’s yearly Portfolio Show featuring the work of 18 graphic design students and 12 digital photography students of the class of 2010. They handed these Scout Books out to more than 500 attendees of the show and encouraged them all to vote on their favorite portfolio. The book was also used to take notes on each participant and served as a great take-away.
Eddie Campbell's new graphic novel comes out in September. Meanwhile, Top Shelf Productions has created this sneak-peak chapbook (better known around the shop as the Scout Book Grande) to give expectant fans a taste of what is to come.
With the same sturdy chipboard exterior as the Scout Book, the Grande is simply bigger!
Contemporary classic! What great design. Metallic gold ink and Midnight Blue paper are a match made in heaven!

Last week we sent a bunch of Scout Books to SXSW in Texas with @rohdesign and @austinkleon for their Visual Notetaking 101 Panel.

These Scout Books were made for the Brand New Conference this Friday, Nov. 5th! Brand New is a one day event held by UnderConsideration on the development of corporate and brand identity projects. The Industrial Design Society of America went all out with a three-pack of custom interior Scout Books, complete with a pull out section! They were created by Ziba for an IDSA “cross-craft” discussion about DIY design held right here in Portland, Oregon. The three-pack consists of one part sweet Portland city guide, one part informative conference/symposium particulars, and one part handy, blank sketchbook.

Aland stamps are very original like Finland ones.This Olympics stamp has a triangle form.The stamp image is very meaningful.He want to say the sports make us become a big family who are together and united.

Aland Islands is the smallest province of Finland. But it is a very special province for Finland.

Triangular Stamp for the Olympics in Beijing
For the second time in a row Janne Holmén, the marathon runner from Åland, participates in the Olympics. This is also the second time for the Åland Post to issue a stamp in a relation to the Olympic Games, which are this time arranged in Beijing, China.
Janne Holmén is the third person from Åland ever to participate in the Olympics. His debut in the Olympics took place in Athens in 2004, where he ran the marathon in 2.17,50 and came in 22nd. Janne’s biggest breakthrough happened in München 2002 when he won the European championships in marathon. In connection with that, the Åland Post made a stamp with Janne Holmén on it. It was issued on 1st November 2002.
In addition to Janne Holmén, Frej Liewendahl and Karl-Johan Hellström from Åland have participated in the Olympic Games. Frej, who was a runner, came in sixth in the 1500 metres’ run in the Paris Games in 1924, whereas the boxer Karl-Johan (with the stage name Johnny) participated in the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam. He won his first match, but was then eliminated in the second.
The stamp for the Olympics brings about a big piece of news: it is namely the first triangular stamp issued by the Åland Post! The stamp is designed by Juha Pykäläinen, who is a well-known artist for all Åland collectors. With this stamp, Juha has used the fellowship of the Olympics as inspiration and the stamp portrays many happy faces from all around the world.
