Navigation Colliery, Crumlin.
A wander around the buildings during a Friends of the Navigation / Cardiff University School of Architecture public event, June 2022.
". . . . the best preserved colliery complex in south Wales. . . . is of unusual architectural quality of red brick with yellow brick pilasters. The complex includes two winding engine houses, a fan house, a magnificent chimney, a pumping house, stores and workshops, a heapstead, powder store and baths."
"Known locally as the Navi, Partridge Jones & Co. Ltd. began stinking this colliery in 1907. Two shafts were completed in 1911 at a depth of 512 yards, it was well known for the very rich Blackvein seam, which in places reached a thickness of 18 feet. Employed 439 in 1945, nationalised in 1947, closed 1967"

The Olympic Theater was built as a Sokol Slavsky Community Organization for the Czech population. Cicero had a growing Czech population and the Olympic had an auditorium, ballroom, gym, and pool. It was very popular for a long time and even into the mid 90's the Olympic would show movies and shows. It closed for a few years in the late 90's but opened again for concerts and plays. Sadly a small roof fire occurred in 2018 and it has not opened since. The fire damaged a restaurant, offices, a dental office and the Olympic Theater

The Placentero is a lounge chair that was designed by Batti, one of the most important young designers of the Argentina design scene.
With its new-age space design, the Placentero conforms well to the modern-day interior décor of public spaces. In particular, the lounge chair’s design complements interiors whose architecture boasts futuristic furniture, chairs, sofas, lamps and chaises. The Placentero is well on its way to becoming a classic in contemporary furniture design.

ESCP Europe Professor Dr Davide Sola took the opportunity of teaching in Tokyo to offer alumni and guests a talk on the book he co-authored with fellow professor Dr Jerome Couturier: How to Think Strategically: your roadmap to innovation and results
The CCIFJ, the French Chamber of Commerce in Japan hosted the talk and a drinks reception, which was well attended on Wednesday 12th March 2014.
Dr Sola provided an overview of the key concepts behind strategic thinking, drawing on the theme of his successful business book and app 'How to Think Strategically', posing the question: some people seem to achieve the best results, again and again. Is it luck? Or is it strategy?
"Strategy is everyone's business. It is impossible for a few senior executives, even very gifted ones, to know everything that is important about what is going on in an organisation and its environment, and all the lessons that are being learned, not just in R&D, but right across the operation," said Dr. Sola in his book.
Dr Sola was in Japan to run the second module of the Global Manager Programme 2014, dedicated to Strategy Management.
About Dr Davide Sola
Davide Sola is a Professor of Strategy and Management at ESCP Europe, the world's oldest business school. He is a former Director of the London campus. He is also a partner at 3H Partners, a London-based consultancy providing strategy advice and entrepreneurial solutions.

modern block on what used to be the site of the old Royal Infirmary, now the Quartermile, a mix of old Victorian hospital buildings totally renovated and re-used and modern structures like this one.
Mostly offices, although at the back end it has one of those gym where they add to your embarrassment by having the running machines up against these big, plate glass windows so everyone walking past can see you (why, why, why would anyone want to exercise like that? Why would the gym do that to their clients??? Especially with a school nearby, loads of kids walking past, who wants that when sweating on a treadmill, kids pointing in at you? People pay for that???)
