The landmark Cranes at Greenock's Ocean Terminal look quite beautiful at night; to the people of this area in the West Coast of Scotland they symbolise a proud shipbuilding and shipping industry. I grew up with these cranes as practically a view from my window and I love to revisit them.

Newhaven is a district in the capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh, which lies between Leith and Granton and is about 3.2 km north of the city centre of Edinburgh, just north of the Victoria Park district. The new Western Harbour development extends north into the Firth of Forth from Newhaven.

In its early years, the Cunard ocean liner 'Queen Elizabeth 2' is tied up alongside the renowned, and now sadly demolished, Ocean Terminal in Southampton Harbour, England. The QE2 was the successor to Cunard Line's 'RMS Queen Elizabeth', coming into use in 1969.

Image was taken by my parents on a boat tour of Southampton Harbour area in the early 1970's. Epson V500 scan of this vastly over-exposed Agfa slide, and then extensively PhotoShopped to remove the effects of mold and other surface growths from being stored in damp conditions for over 40 years. I was unable to remove the blue lurgi stains that for some reason mainly appear only on the darker hull of the ship.

Update: (12Aug2019): removed most of the blue lurgi !

Open top bus (244 in the Lothian fleet) was seen picking up passengers (after their visit to the former royal yacht, “Britannia” ) at the temporary tours stop at Ocean Terminal, Leith. All stops at Ocean Terminal were relocated last year owing to the extensive tram works in front of the shopping centre, which is just visible on the extreme right. The former royal yacht - berthed at the Port of Leith since 1998 - is itself prominent on the right. The building immediately behind the bus - currently shared by an advertising agency, the Cruise Liner terminal and offices for Forth Ports Leith - was the original Britannia visitor centre before the vessel and the visitor centre relocated to Ocean Terminal itself. Tram rails will soon be laid on Ocean Drive in the foreground as part of the Trams to Newhaven project due to complete in 2023. The 2016 registered bus carries the blue and yellow livery for the Majestic Tour, one of three branded tours operated by Lothian.

A view not many of us are lucky enough to experience... I count myself lucky to have seen this view on more than a few occasions from both light aircraft and helicopters.

Amazing that this particular helicopter was already built on 09 Oct 1967 in Morton, PA.

All of its career, the Sea Knight have been in service with the U.S. Marine Corps, it is truly Semper Fidelis!

Assigned to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 163 (HMM-163) based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, the squadron is nicknamed "Ridge Runners".

The engagement of this squadron founded in December 1951 goes back to the Vietnam War (the Battle of A Shau) and includes the campaigns Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Currently the squadron is commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Joseph P. Levreault (USMC).

Parked on the flightdeck of the USS Boxer (LHD 4), a Wasp-Class Amphibious Assault Ship of the United States Navy (USN), docked at Ocean Terminal during a port visit to Hong Kong before returning to its home port in San Diego, California.

Fleet number 702 was seen at its terminus at Leith’s Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre waiting to depart on another trip on route 17 to Edinburgh Airport. This service to the airport was launched in 2017 as the Skylink 200 but Lothian announced on 03 March 2025 that it would be changed to city route 17 and the Skylink brand dropped. The change took effect from 06 April 2025.

Work continues on the City of Edinburgh Council Trams to Newhaven project which will deliver 2.91 miles of tramway from Picardy Place through Leith to Newhaven by Spring 2023. In this view NE in front of the Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre (opened 2001), we’re looking across the site of the future Ocean Terminal tramstop. The airport bound track is in the foreground with the Newhaven bound track over to the right and an island platform will be built. Bus stops have all been relocated during the tram work here but when completed, arriving buses will return to the roadway on the left. Trams for the city centre and the airport will turn right in front of the office block (Ocean Point) in the distance. New housing is rising on the right.

Something a bit different from me.

I have just bought a Samyang 14mm and wanted to try this out. Please with the sharpnest and the manual focus / aperture isn't too much of an issue.

Keen to get a filter for it but not sure how good the Cokin set up is that Samyang have released as had Cokin's before and not been impressed so if anyone has tried it I would be grateful for some feedback or other options available for this lens,

Fleet number 501 is pictured at the temporary stops serving Ocean Terminal while work progresses on the extension of trams to Newhaven. The vehicle will soon leave on another Skylink 200 journey to Edinburgh Airport. Having previously served on the frontline Airlink 100, number 501 still retains its then Airlink livery though Skylink titles have been added. The tramway is due to open here in 2023 - the trams will pass here from Newhaven from the right.

With Arthur’s Seat and a Lothian support vehicle also making an appearance, 1079 prepares for departure from Ocean Terminal for a peak hour journey across the city to the southern suburbs. This was the day of Lothian’s soft launch of its new 100 seater ADL Enviro 400XLB vehicles (129 with standees) with 1063 and 1079 both in service. Passengers will have to get used to central exit doors again.

This is my one and only photo of "The Big U" when she was in service. The fastest passenger liner ever built, she broke the North Atlantic speed record on her maiden voyage, making over 35knots and still holds the Blue Riband today. She maintained an average service speed of 30knots throughout her all-too-short career, brought to an end by the Jet-age in 1969.

To me, it looks a bit like the platform of a train station and the last train had already departed.
