Día 306/365 - Conocimiento

View On Black

El conocimiento reside en muchos lugares.

En nosotros, en los que nos rodean y en esa colección de páginas que poco a poco se está volviendo en obsoleta.

Knowledge resides in many places.

In us, around us and in this collection of pages that is becoming obsolete every day.

Cranbrook Mill, built in 1814, is the tallest smock mill in England.

Although still working, as are the Land lines in the foreground, it is now considered Obsolete.

Innovation, although necessary, often ignores the beautiful elegance of the past.

Swinhoe’s White-eye diving into the leaves of a Sycamore Tree, but kind enough to leave us with a view of the one field mark that clinches the ID.

An introduced species here in Orange County they have become very successful at breeding here. After DNA testing showed they are no longer a sub-species of the Warbling White-eye, they have earned the rank of their own species . Which means there is another reason my field guide is obsolete.

Here's something you won't see again - DM&E 6362 leads a 5-pack of SD40s with CP 277 in tow westbound in the good afternoon light.

Not only are the blue and golds all but obsolete, so is this train.

No dogs on the property...but I think there's a stray cat that uses this on frosty winter nights.

Very few cables still hang from these old poles.

Obsolete bank: Edgecombe County, Town of Speed, North Carolina

This old building appears to be left over from the days when railroad traffic was common in the town of Midland, Ohio. Having lived not far from this site for 60 years, I can't recall ever seeing a train on these tracks.

20210503_7110_7D2-135 Old swing hook in tree

One of two hooks in a limb of the walnut tree. It was a swing for me and my sister in the 1960s to early 1970s. Then my parents constructed a covered area and put in a spa pool. But the swing was obsolete well before then!

The Rolls Razor, "the razor that is stropped and honed in its case"

A very old razor. I dated mine back to 1945. The hone stone is broken, the stropping leather dried out. It maybe can be restored and sharpened but for me it's obsolete and just a show piece

A Faber Castell slide rule, obsolete like all mechanical calculators, but with one advantage - batteries not required!

This abandoned farmhouse is surrounded by obsolete equipment and collapsing barns, including those in yesterday's post. The clothesline is falling over, the seed drill in the foreground is disintegrating, and even the trees are losing limbs. Can anyone figure out what the recessed area to the right of the door was for?

In the early 1950's this pump was erected for the local people by Cork County Council.

Pumps such as this provided abundant fresh water supplies to people who up to then had to use wells and springs to access water.

But the water from this particular pump was of little use. The pump was located so close to sea level that salt water entered its supply regularly.

This vessel is either obsolete, or perhaps, waiting for another extreme high tide to take it the 700 metres back to the water.

My money says it's surplus to requirements. My entry for Flickr Friday 'Obsolete'. Dunalley, Tasmania.

The passage of time and new farming methods have rendered this barn obsolete and it has been boarded up to become only of slight interest to busy people spotting it from a distance. Many older folks hold years of wisdom but remain silent because few take the time to have meaningful conversations with them.

An antique steamer trunk...What stories it could tell...HFF! :-)

Obsolete and now disused switchgear at the abandoned Hoverport at Pegwell Bay, East Kent. Manufactured by South Wales Switchgear. A company formed in 1935 and dissolved in 2013. Switchgear probably dates from the 1960s and the hoverport closed mid 1980s.
