In the early 1950's this pump was erected for the local people by Cork County Council.

Pumps such as this provided abundant fresh water supplies to people who up to then had to use wells and springs to access water.

But the water from this particular pump was of little use. The pump was located so close to sea level that salt water entered its supply regularly.

This vessel is either obsolete, or perhaps, waiting for another extreme high tide to take it the 700 metres back to the water.

My money says it's surplus to requirements. My entry for Flickr Friday 'Obsolete'. Dunalley, Tasmania.

Obsolete and now disused switchgear at the abandoned Hoverport at Pegwell Bay, East Kent. Manufactured by South Wales Switchgear. A company formed in 1935 and dissolved in 2013. Switchgear probably dates from the 1960s and the hoverport closed mid 1980s.

Sorry for the terrible layout. It is so hard to see anything with the dragon and its background having the same colour combo. It was built in a big rush and I never really put the dragon on the base until it was complete...

When I was about 8 years old I went to a YMCA summer camp for a two week stay. One of the big events was an overnight hike to a forest ranger's tower which was fun. We had our hot dogs over the open fire and then we huddled around to the fire throughout the night because the temperature had dropped like a rock.

The next morning before we trekked back to the YMCA Home Base the bloody counselors thought it would be a good idea to climb to the top of the tower and talk with the rangers. We did. It was terrifying and I will never do it again.

And if I ever find those counselors I will get even with them. LOL

With red bellows and a new custom front to hold a specific lens I wanted to use, this is my just for fun camera. It is a 1910 (?? honestly not sure of the actual year) Burke & James 4x5 Camera.

The company was established in 1897 by founders Henry Burke and David James. They sold their business in the 1920's. The second owner kept the name and cameras going until the early 1970's when they finally closed their doors.

Made obsolete by the advent of air power, this remote colorful barricade is mostly a tourist attraction today. However, never having been breached by any army, the Rainbow Palisades acquired their reputation of impenetrability over centuries.

Long time ago, I kept one set as a souvenir ... No mercy for the rest - discarded.

Obsolete Station in

BR/WR North British Diesel-Hydraulic A1A-A1A 'Warship' D601 - once ''Ark Royal'' but now nameless - in the sun at Barry Docks, in May 1971. A BP oil tanker is just visible in the dockyard, on the left..

The loco was introduced as part of the British Transport Commisions', 'Pilot Scheme' in March 1958, and was withdrawn in December 1967, and sent to Woodhams Brothers scrapyard. It deteriorated over several years, including vandalism by 'steam enthusiasts', and was finally cut up in June 1980. None of the class were preserved.

Restored from a light-damaged orange border marked original..

The 35mm version of this sturdy cast iron Griswold film splicer was once the most popular cement film splicer, until the development of tape splicers rendered these spicers obsolete.

This one, however, is definiitely not a 35mm splicer. The channel, at 38mm (1½"), is too wide for 35mm film. The registration pin set has me stumped, not only due to the location along the centerline, but also due to the pin size and spacing that do not correspond to that of 16mm or 35mm motion picture film. If this splicer was for a special application that was popular back in its day, I have yet to discover that use.
